Pretty Muddy – A mud run for the laadddiieees

pmsticker3

Not sure if y’all have heard of this muddy fun run but it sounds pretty cool and it’s a women’s only event that’s coming to Dallas, April 26th. They will also be in Sacramento, Chicago and Richmond but I’m a Texas girl so I’m promoting for my neck of the woods.

What is Pretty Muddy?
Pretty Muddy is a 5K adventurous obstacle course mud run for any woman who wants to get outside, spend time with friends, and have fun. And believe it or not it was dreamed up by a pair of husbands that were looking to do something for their wives. Friendship, Fun and Fitness! They wanted to provide a stress-free environment where you can just let loose. It’s a 5K that you can run or walk. It’s not timed. And the obstacles are legit. Nothing to worry about.

prettymuddy_dallas3

Sounds great, doesn’t it? To add to the awesomeness, they’ve PARTNERED with Susan G. Komen to raise money to support Breast Cancer research! You can even have your own fundraising page if you choose.

And if that’s not good enough, the folks at Pretty Muddy are giving 250 free entries to BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS in each city!

So if you’ve been intimidated by other mud runs or maybe you are a mud run junkie, you should definitely check Pretty Muddy out. Women only. Lots of Mud. Fun obstacles. All of the photos on their page look like it’s a blast. And because I am a Girls Gone Sporty Ambassador, I can share a $5 off discount code. Just enter GIRLSGONESPORTY at checkout. This code is applicable to all 4 cities. The earlier you REGISTER, the better discounts you can get! The first 200 participants get 50% off their race fees; the next 200 get 40% off; the next 200 get 30% off and well it just goes on and on.

prettymuddy_dallas2

And if you’re from the DFW area and are interested in winning a race entry, I will be having a giveaway next week for 2 standard entries and 2 family entries (yes boys are actually allowed). That’s 4 potential winners! The event is scheduled for April 26th. So stay tuned and share the love.

I’ll be back to regularly scheduled posting tomorrow. But please share this great event with your friends and family. If my schedule allows, I plan on being there too. And if you know me, I’m not one for this type of thing but it seems like FUN!

In Need of a lil R&R

images

Hello ladies and gentlemen. I want to start off by THANKING everyone who supported me and my team “BOOM FOR BOOBS”! CrossFit Boom’s goal of $2500 was met and we had a great ol’ time. That’s at least 30 mammograms that will provided to someone in need! So Thank You for supporting us and Barbells for Boobs ツ

BOOM FOR BOOBS
Of course the BOOM Box was decked out in all pink. Several of us were decked out in pink clothes and we were all anxiously awaiting to give Grace a go.

b4b

For those of you that had been following along, I have this wrist, palm, forearm tweak and it’s been a little painful but hasn’t been out of commission painful. But I wasn’t really sure if I could go RX for the B4B event. I had taken it fairly easy during the week, HOPING it would just fade away. When it was my time to warm up and get ready, I decided I could handled the 95lbs. 3-2-1 GO and I did 4 reps, then I had to drop the bar. Slight pain set in but it was uncomfortable enough for me and I couldn’t hang on to the bar for multiple reps. From there it was a mindgame. I just wanted to quit. But I couldn’t. I raised money in honor and memory of ladies who fought a real fight. Who had to muster the courage and faith to fight breast cancer. And here I am wanting to quit a lil’ ol’ workout. So I fought through the best I could with a bum wrist. I wanted to beat my time from last year of 6:06 but that clearly wasn’t going to happen. A few weeks ago I had a time of 7:03 RX but B4B was not the place I was going to beat that. I was just happy to survive the WOD. Time: 7:40 RX

BOOM FOR BOOBS 10/12/13

BOOM FOR BOOBS 10/12/13

10/15/13
I took Monday off to let my wrist rest and was going to take Tuesday off as well. Needing a stress relief, I decided to show up Tuesday evening to get some work in. In warm ups, I couldn’t even manage to support my weight doing inch worms. It sucked. So coach had to modify the MetCon for me, which is great, but sucky because this wrist issue is a pain in my ass.

Midline: 75 hollow rocks
Have I ever told you how much these suck? No? Well they do.

Skill: Double Under practice
Coach wanted us to work on slowing down our pace so that hopefully we could knock out more in a row. I am capable of slowing it down but I was having trouble stringing together more than 10. I’m a speed DUer. But I will learn to keep a slower pace if it helps me in the long run.

10/15/13 WOD

10/15/13 WOD

MetCon: 3 Rounds of 12 Deadlift (155,105), 9 Hang Clean and 75 DU
So I can do the Deadlifts but the Hang Cleans are not going to happen. I love Cleans too! For modification I did Kettle Bell Swings (1 1/2 POOD). This was heavier than I was expecting but doable of course. I powered through the Deadlifts and KB Swings for the first round. After 75 DUs I was smoked. So I did two sets of 6 for the Deadlifts and did the KB Swings unbroken. I had better luck at the DUs in round 2 for some reason and got back to the Deadlifts as fast as I could. This time doing a set of 8 then a set of 4. I didn’t want to have to pick the Kettle Bell back up so I did those unbroken. The last set of DUs were slow with lots of rest. I felt like the fat kid that I am. Having a hard time breathing and fatigued. UGH. My outside world stress and my physical pain is wearing on me. Time: 8:34

Hump Day!

I may only make it to the BOOM BOX 3 days this week instead of my typical 4-5. This wrist needs some rest and my brain needs a vacation. Between my kids, my vehicle and other crap…I am tired. Hopefully things get back on an upswing soon! Plus this work weight loss challenge is more than halfway over and I’m not anywhere near the number I was hoping for. I’ve had some loss but not what I was looking for. STRESS. It KILLS.

I hope everyone else is faring better than I at the moment. I hope y’all are staying strong in clean eating. If you’re not, it’s ok. Just get back on it! And don’t forget to stay hydrated. It’s cooler temps here in TX and I know when it cools down people are less likely to drink their water. Don’t be that person. And as always, go out and BE AWESOME in all you do!

Cindy Cindy Bo Bindy

Banana Fana Fo Findy, Fe Fi Mo Mindy, Ciiiindy! It’s official, I have certified myself into dorkiness forever. But that was seriously in my head this morning. And guess why? CINDY! I love to hate this workout and hate to enjoy it. Let’s be clear there is no REAL LOVE for this dirty girl.

Test day: Cindy 20 min AMRAP of 5 Pull-ups mod:ring rows, 10 Push Ups, 15 Air Squats; Rest 7 minutes then 3 min max MU or plank hold as long as possible for non muscle uppers!

So in the past I have done OK and I have done CRAPPY. Today was the best though really modified. I had a green band and a small blue band. NOT GOOD! But I was able to stay consistent, still get work done and not hang on the bar for FOREVER. Push Ups were strong for a bit. My palm/wrist started plaguing me so I went to KNEE PUSH UPS! I haven’t resorted to those in a very very long time. But I wasn’t going to risk hurting my wrist more. And then Air Squats. This is a movement where some rounds I just breezed right through and some rounds felt like I would never finish. They are easy but I sure do like to stand around a lot when we do them 😀 And for the first time, when it comes to Pull Ups at least, instead of letting the clock run down when there’s like 15 seconds to go, I actually got back up there and put 3 additional Pull Ups on the board. Who is this girl? Final: 13 rounds + 3 Pull Ups.

10/11/13 WOD

10/11/13 WOD

After we tried killing ourselves in 20 minutes we got a 7 minute break. Then it was a 3 minute Muscle Up show. So you all should know by now I’m not cool enough to have a MU so a nice plank hold was waiting for me. My shoulders are kaput so it was hard to even hold a minute but I did, then I dropped, then I got back up. I had a total of 2 minutes combined. But my longest hold was the first minute. I. NEED. NEW. SHOULDERS.

Barbells For Boobs
Yippeee! I’ve exceeded my goal and I thank you all who have donated! THANK YOU! I’m at $250, so I’m asking to help me to get to $320. For every $80, one mammogram is proved to someone in need. I have 3 mammograms covered so let’s try and get 4 provided. BOOMS FOR BOOBS is tomorrow at 9 a.m. We’ll be doing GRACE, 30 Clean and Jerks for time. I will be working out in support, in honor and in memory of people that are battling or have battled breast cancer. Thanks in advance for your support and thank you again to those of you that have donated. Donate here to HELP SAVE BOOBIES!

It’s the WEEKEND!
Can I get an ANTI-RAIN dance? WE have more baseball and we’d really like to just play some ball. The rain ruins such things. I know we need it but can it come on Monday, please! And as I just mentioned B4B happens tomorrow! I’m excited and you should be too! Other than that, I hope you all have a beautiful weekend and just be AWESOME!

Calgon Take Me Away

Some of you kids out there might not even know what that means. But I remember these commercials. Oh so silly looking back at them, like the one below! But seriously. Can one bath product erase all the troubles in the world? How about all my muscle aches? Hehe, I don’t even like baths but it sounds so nice.

My idea of destressing is just vegging out on the couch catching up on all my DVR’d shows. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? But that doesn’t get rid of all my aches and pains. I seriously need to take the couch time and turn it into foam roller, lax ball and stretching time. But I’m a big ol baby and don’t wanna! Besides being in a world of hurt, what motivates y’all to focus on the extra mobility time? I don’t have an ounce in me that picks the foam roller over being horizontal on the couch :/

At work I have every intention to get up ever 20-30 minutes to walk around but sometimes that time dissappears into thin air. A co-worker of mine that is doing the weight loss challenge here at work has been making an effort to walk 1-3 times a day when she has a chance. Currently this is her main mode of movement, so if and when I can, I tag along. It gets my blood flowing and hopefully encourages her to keep up a good pace. In the two weeks that we’ve been walking we’ve increased our speed by 40 seconds! So that’s a bonus. I’m hoping in the not too distant future we can make 2 laps around our building in the time frame it takes us to walk 1 lap currently. Shhh, don’t tell her that! Although she may be reading this, I just don’t know. LOL.

This isn’t the first time I’ve declared I need to do more mobility but gosh darn it, can I get a cookie for everyday I do put effort towards it? How about $1? I need some motivation! HELP!

images2

I did motivate my ass to get up this morning. When the alarm went off I mentally went through what has been hurting and my shoulders were feeling much better. What I didn’t realize was that when I got out of bed that my legs may not hold me up. Holy crapola, my quads are dead! When I think about it, I did do 80 front squats at 65lbs as fast as possible with only 12 pushups in between sets. So that’s a lot of leg work. Boy does it hurt so BAD now. I knew if I didn’t put in work this morning the pain would be even worse. Warming up was miserable.

Strength: 3 reps On the Minute Clean and jerk for 10 min @155/105
Then we moved to Clean and Jerks. I don’t know if I’ve complained enough about my palm, wrist, forearm but last week with OHS, I tweaked it. And it’s been a lil bugger ever since. On Monday, it was wearing on my just holding the front rack position. Then moving to Push Ups was just that extra OUCHY. I didn’t think I was going to feel it today when we started warming up with just the bar but I did. I was still able to move the bar so I kept adding weight. Then it was too much, so I dropped to the low low weight of 65lbs. I only made it to minute 6 before I had to shut it down. Did a lot of mobility and hoping I can get myself healed up before Saturday, aka as BOOM for BOOBS!

10/9/13 WOD

10/9/13 WOD

MetCon: Bring sally up T2B MOD: Plank Push Up on the up part and elbow plank on the down.
Hahahah are you serious Coach? So today I was totally wishing I had Toes to Bar! If you are CrossFit savvy then you know all about Sally and bringing her up and bringing her down. It’s a song. And it’s a long song. And it’s annoying as all get out. Coach thought he was cute or something when he posted this on the website. He was wrong. I don’t mind planks in general, but when I have worn out shoulders, I don’t LIKE planks AT ALL. Holding the plank on my elbows just became unbearable. My shoulders were shaky and I could feel the fatigue. My arms were begging to be sawed off. Begging! No scores today. Just tired.

Barbells For Boobs
Wooooo I’ve met my goal but it doesn’t hurt to keep on asking. With the support and promise from my co-workers (Thank you – Heather, Kim, John and Ellis) I am up to $189 in donations. Your donation supports an awesome organization. For every $80, one mammogram is provided to someone in need!

If you aren’t able to help out right now, please share me with your friends, co-workers, etc.

This week has been busy busy. Gotta tighten up all my eating in general. Although I feel I’m doing OK, I could be doing KICK ASS. And kick ass I am not, YET. I hope you are all keeping good and bad food habits in check. Make the effort to keep on keepin on and I’ll make the effort to get some mobility in. Other than that, continue with your awesomeness!

Forced Rest Day

images2

I need a good massage ASAP! I could very well be falling apart. Can I blame the cooler weather for my joints and muscles wanting to flee from my body? Saturday I finally made it to a Community WOD… Woohooo! But Sunday I woke up and my left shoulder was dead. DEAD I tell you. It was a struggle to put on my seat belt all freakin day. Much less get dressed, put on a hoody, lie down, etc. Needless to say when 4 a.m. rolled around yesterday, I assessed that I was going to be worthless for the 5 a.m. WOD. I did make it in to an evening class and now my legs are dead after Squats and my shoulders are hating on me now after lots o’ Push Ups. Today has to be a rest day for me.

working-out-with-sore-muscles-300x154

But let me backtrack a couple of days and catch you up on my workouts. Cause I know you’ve all been waiting anxiously for such! I wish :/ It’s ok. You all have lives. And probably more exciting than mine!

10/4/13
Test day: Max rope climbs in 5 minutes
Yup that’s right folks, I’m still scared of the rope and the climbing of the rope. It sucks. Coach had me work on some things but I still have that fear. So for me it wasn’t rope climbs, it was: lie on the ground and pull myself upright using the rope. I’m pretty sure this is what killed my shoulders. With DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness), I didn’t feel it till Sunday :/

10/4/13 WOD

10/4/13 WOD

MetCon: Death By 10 Meters
It’s been a while since we’ve done Death by anything. And Death by 10 meters shows up. A few weeks ago, I did my own death by what I assumed was 20 meters. maybe less? I didn’t have an accurate measurement. But we did for this MetCon. I know we’ve done this at the BOOM Box but I have no record of it, so it was a loooong time ago before I started blogging. I found a post where I did it on my own last year and holy heckola I got 14 rounds! And for this MetCon I got 15 rounds. 20m shy of completing 16 rounds. I guess improvement is better than NO improvement right?

10/5/13 Community WOD
Sprints and Burpees. Or should I say JOGGING and BURPEES. So I walk up for 9 a.m. at a local high school and there’s a handful of us warming up but there’s 2 overachievers there already for the Endurance group that showed up at 8 a.m. Hehe Jokes ladies. Y’all are awesome and I’m only envious! Jordan happened to even be more awesome and stick around for whatever Coach was going to cook up for us. Burpees and Running! Team WOD. Ugh. Poor Jordan was my partner. Not only did she just run 78o898 miles, now she has to do more running and have the worst partner EVER! Ah well, it is what it is.

burpees

So here it goes, 50 burpees, 200yds, 40 burpees, 160yds, 30 burpees, 120yds, 20 burpees, 80yds, 10 burpees, 40yds.
As a team we had to complete the burpees so we split em up. But we had to run as a team and not split up the run. We were on the football field so we ran the 100yds and ran back. Did burpees then shortened the run by 20yds and run back. We didn’t get a time but I’d say we did alright. The runs were a struggle. I started off burpees like a champ but faded fast. Thank goodness we surived. We then moved on to playing on the monkey bars (which I suck at), and playing around on the different outdoor stuff the high school has. We ended with scaling a concrete wall. NOT FUN. Ok it was fun when I could get my chunkalunk butt over but not fun when I couldn’t. The wall had an incline, so I could clear it at the bottom where it was shorter and in the middle. But at the end where the wall is taller than me, it was a NO GO.

10/7/13
Strength: 4×8 @75% 2-3-min rest
Even holding the bar for back squats was putting a strain on my shoulder but it wasn’t bad and I worked on it in between sets. Still sucked though. The Squats weren’t any more fun. There’s something about 8 reps that seems so hard. It’s not and it’s only 75% but I struggled. The easiest set was the 3rd set. For some reason, I was down and up pretty quickly. I guess it took a little bit for my brain to realize it’s not so bad.

10/7/13 WOD

10/7/13 WOD

MetCon: 8 Rounds of 10 Front Squats (95,65) and 12 HR Push Ups
Sounds like a ton of fun doesn’t it? Light weight on Front Squats and not too many Push Ups. Well my first round was completed in 26 seconds! Woooo and then my second round took over 30 seconds and then who the hell knows. My shoulder was dying. My right palm was tightening up on me. I was a mess. I was really hoping for sub 10 on this but I just couldn’t pull my squats together as fast as I hoped! Final: 10:49 RX

sore-muscles-e1370008259367

Boy oh boy do my QUADS feel the fire! Pretty much I look like every ounce of me is broken when I get up from my desk. It’s such a pathetic site I’m sure :/

Barbells For Boobs

BFB-BLACK-03A

This morning I couldn’t muster the energy to wake up at 4 a.m. with barely 4 hours of sleep. On Thursdays, my oldest son has football. When they travel out of town they get home pretty late. So needless to say I’m up at the high school picking him up …. way past my bedtime! We got lots to catch up on this evening too, but hopefully I can squeeze in a BOOM Box workout.

2011 Boom Box Crew B4B

2011 Boom Box Crew B4B

But today I’m just reminding you that with everyone else in the world I am raising money and awareness for breast cancer and more specifically a group by the name of Barbells for Boobs. It’s October, it’s expected, right? But in all seriousness, B4B just popped up in my life a couple of years ago. I was new to CrossFit and CrossFit BOOM was only a couple of months old. Coach suggested making the road trip a few hours south of us to visit his old box and support this cause. Being so hooked on the kool-aid we drove our happy butts down there.

300x250_banner-06

I don’t have people in my life that have struggled with this specific cancer but when we pulled up to CrossFit Centex and saw the hundreds of people, it gave me goosebumps. Seeing the CrossFit community rally behind this organization melted my heart.

DONATE TO HELP SAVE BOOBIES!

Watching families honoring their loved ones was amazing. Watching survivors WORKOUT for the cause was beyond anything I had ever thought of. Sure, there are 5Ks and what not to support any and every cause. That is normal to me I suppose. But lifting weights?!? It was foreign to me. But it was a very cool experience. And me not having a clue as to what was going on, jumped right in and did GRACE – 30 Clean and Jerks for time. So many people cheering everyone on. It was just a beautiful day.

The following year, Coach dedicated a Saturday to B4B at our box. And he is doing that again this year as well. Boom for Boobs! This will be my 3rd year to participate. I have but a small goal to raise $100. I’m $60 in and would love to hit the $100 mark or MORE by Oct. 12.

Without even assuring the bribery, one of my blogging buddies, Nicole over at Not the fat kid in gym class anymore, kicked in $10. (is that an abnormal amount of commas?) Thank you Nicole. And please go read her blog. She is HILARIOUS on a daily basis and works hard at her Box. I am very grateful and she will be my first recipient of some AWESOME socks. I figure $10 is a good number. So the next 5 folks who donate at least $10 will get a pair of AWESOME socks sent their way. If I find any straggler pairs, I will send more out according to when donations were made. I can only promise 5 pairs at the moment. Make sure if and when you donate to leave a comment saying you read this post. Also, one of my contributors, Vicki, donated in honor of her Grandmother. I’m going to do the workout in honor of her as well and will write her name on me, or on my clothing, or something. So if you want to do an IN MEMORY of or IN SUPPORT of someone, I’m more than happy to rock out their names for you. Just let me know!

Again I thank you all for reading daily, weekly, monthly. It makes a girl feel loved. That’s enough begging and bribing for the day! I hope everyone has a LOVELY weekend. If you’re local, I just want to remind you about Boom’s Community WOD. Saturdays, 9a.m. Tomorrow’s WOD will be outside the box and over at Martin High School. Hopefully I can make it out there. I would love to see your smiling faces. Make today great! And don’t forget to be AWESOME!

Monday Not So Fun Day

images3

I’m not entirely sure how I missed Thursday and Friday workouts last week but I did. My body just needed the rest I suppose. I had a stressful Friday and pretty much that led to binge eating all weekend. And it’s not like I dove into a gallon of ice cream, nor did I eat a whole lot but it wasn’t good either. I also decided that a garage sale was in order. So that left me on my feet all day for two days. MY FEET ARE DYING!

images2

Walking into the BOOM Box this morning was a big debate for me. I could wait till the evening or just knock it out ASAP. NANCY was on the board! UGH. Running and OHS! I chose to knock it out this morning because it’s a big Texas Rangers game tonight and I don’t want to miss it!

Strength: Back Squat 5@65% 5@70% and 5@75%
This is the first time doing percentages with my new 1RM and it wasn’t too bad! Granted the percentages were light but doing 5’s isn’t always fun. I felt good. My hips were a little creaky but overall I was glad to put in the work.

9/30/13 WOD

9/30/13 WOD

MetCon: Nancy – 5 rounds of 400M run and 15 Overhead Squats
I had already showed up with the mindset to row instead of run. My shins, ankles and feet are tore up. I did do some mobility work and after Back Squats I was feeling much better. Coach T asked if I was going to run and I said I might as well. And for the first time in a long time I think I had a better time for a 400m run. 3 minutes. I know that’s not fast in any sense but I actually ran for a little bit and my shins weren’t dying. Still hurting but tolerable. It’s when I got to Overhead Squats that I fell apart. The weight is 65lbs. Not heavy at all! But after 5 reps, my right wrist was dying. It hurt to even grip the bar. So I dropped to 55lbs and it was still a NO GO. I have a hook grip on the bar and Coach told me to release that grip and to try letting the bar roll back onto my fingertips. This was a hard task. I’ve fought so hard to learn to be comfortable with a HOOK GRIP and now I’m letting it go. My brain was confused. I finally finished out the reps and went out for my next run. My wrist was in pain and I didn’t even want to walk but our time was limited and I needed to move. I did do more walking on this run but the running part was faster than my typically trot. Maybe it was the cooler air or maybe I’m finally shedding some weight. Either was I didn’t dread running near as much today. My second round of OHS was better than my first but I was at a light weight and I had just rested. Knocked out 10, then struggled with the 5. My third run was probably better than my second run but my OHS were done. I couldn’t find a happy place for my wrist. And then I DID for the last 5 reps. My goal was to get to that happy place for the 4th round. Finally, UNBROKEN. I should have gone unbroken the whole time, but that wrist o’ mine. It hurted! It was after 6am and I had to go. Today was a big ol DNF for me. Womp Womp. But I will run into Nancy again and she’ll know what I’m really made of. Time: DNF, finished 4 rounds in 25 minutes or so. Not real sure.

Running on Fumes

pd_empty_071212_ms2

Ok, not physically running, because I despise running, but I didn’t get the good sleep I was hoping for and I’m exhausted! Two nights in a row now. 4 hours of sleep each night. Not good! I didn’t have a good dinner either :/ So that’s a double whammy for me.

whammy

Needless to say, I rolled my lardo butt out of bed and slept walked right into the BOOM Box. In the end, I’m glad I went but I really probably could have used the sleep more.

9/5/13 WOD
WarmUp: Sled drag around building + tire flip mechanics
Whew, that sled drag only had a 35lb plate on it, probably making it 50lbs or so and it about took me out. My calves were going to burst. The tire flip I have done, but this morning it was a struggle. My whole body was still in wake up mode and not wanting to cooperate! But flipping heavy ass tires always makes me feel like I can do anything!

Strength: DL 3×5@75%
Gosh darn it for drinking PR juice two weekends ago. The downside of hitting big PRs is that your percentages go up. I mean it’s well and grand that I can now Deadlift 245lbs but 75% is 185lbs and well this morning it was freaking heavy. I struggled. My hands hated me and I was not a happy camper. Coach T was reassuring that yes it does suck but in time I will not struggle so much. Plus have I told y’all I’m really really tired?

9/5/13 WOD

9/5/13 WOD

MetCon: 12 min AMRAP of 10 Squat Snatch 95/65 and 30 DU (mod is 12 burpees)
SQUAT SNATCH! HOLY HECKOLA! The weight I can do. But stringing them together was not something I was looking forward to. Snatch is already awkward. Then adding the squat and trying to hold onto the bar for multiple reps. Didn’t work out so well for me. And my first round was horrible. I was in my head swimming lazily. Started, got the bar up, put the bar down and starred at the bar. I didn’t want to do rep 2. After taking forever, or what seemed like forever. Maybe over 2 minutes, I finally finished 10 reps. Onto DUs. My lifesaver. But not for round 1. Crap. I lost my double unders. I was so out of it, I couldn’t do more than 3 or 4 in a row. What is wrong with me? Sleep deprivation. I looked at the clock and it was just over 4 minutes and I thought wow I’m not doing very well. I willed my resistant brain and body to try harder. And it worked a little bit. I strung 3 reps in a row for 6 reps, then 2s then 1s. UGH. Got back to DUs and low and behold they came back. My wrists and feet were communicating again and 30 went by unbroken. I know the time was close to 8 minutes. Round 2 was a smidge better than round 1. I was tired for round 3 but I had to finish it! Had a hard time stringing the Squat Snatch again, but instead of dropping the bar and walking in circles, I’d drop the bar. Stop the bounce. Regrip. Go. Overall Coach T said my form was good the whole way through. Thank goodness! This lift is a weakness! Got to DUs. Was on a roll up to 22 reps. Finished it out with time to spare. I only pushed out 2 Squat Snatches into the 4th round. I was beat! Finished! Broken! Final: 3 rounds 2 reps RX

BARBELLS FOR BOOBS FUNDRAISING
It’s that time of year again for the Pink Bra Tour and the big fundraising push put on by Barbells for Boobs. Barbells for Boobs is a non-profit organization that provides funding to pay for breast cancer detection services as a last resort for thousands of people who don’t qualify for assistance elsewhere.

For all you new folks, let me give you a brief breakdown of my B4B experience. I was completely new to CrossFit. Only a month in and CrossFit Boom owner/coach’s former box, CrossFit Centex, was hosting this Barbells For Boobs event. Of course the name made me giggle, but with Coach’s encouragement, it sounded like fun. We took a little road trip to Belton, TX about 3 hours south of us in the DFW area. We showed up to a pinkalooza fest, including ourselves decked out in all pink. I was excited and nervous. I knew we would be working out but I didn’t know how it was going to go down. There were so many people, and all of them soooo nice and so encouraging. We did a big group warm-up and then went over the workout – GRACE. 30 reps of Ground to Overhead as fast as possible. I knew how to clean and jerk BARELY and thank goodness I wasn’t the first heat so I got to spectate for a minute. What I witnessed in regards to community, dedication and spirit was beyond belief. There were all walks of life present – young, old, fit, newbies like me and SURVIVORS. Their stories were tremendous. The support was overwhelming. Never in my life would I have pictured WORKING OUT as a community outreach. Sure people do 5ks and walks, so it’s not inconceivable but this was so much more to me.

Even the pets got their pink on! 2011 B4B

When it came time for my heat, I was piss my pants scared. Then I was calm, like I got this, then scared again. My overachiever self debated with Coach on weight and we picked 75lbs. That was a doable weight but I only got a few reps in. I had the best judge though. She was super encouraging and a great cheerleader, but I had to drop to 65lbs. Once I did that I felt a lot better even though I still struggled so much. My form went south and I was melting. In the end I finished around 5:30 and was proud I even participated. I don’t think I left the workout area after I finished except to get some food and water. I stayed there and cheered on and cheered on my fellow boxmates and complete strangers. I’ll never forget that event. That day, well over $10,000 was donated to B4B. It was awesomeness!

2011 Boom Box Crew B4B

The next year the BOOM Box held it’s own event and I bugged everyone on here and everywhere to donate monies to the cause. And was happy to raise $100 towards our Boom Box team. This year I’m at it again. We plan on having our own B4B event October 12, 2013 at the Boom Box. My goal again is $100 but I’d be over the moon to raise more. If you can help, are able to help or know of people or businesses that would like to help then please click/share my fundraising page: HELP SAVE BOOBIES. There is also a link in the right side column that will take you there. Just click the B4B image.

I’d also like to invite you out to spectate OR even participate. Even if you don’t CrossFit you can still do the workout. It will be scaled to your level of fitness. It’s a great cause and it will be a lot of fun!

Thanks in advance for any and all support!

And that wraps up my Thursday for this week. Besides lack of sleep, I’m chugging along just fine. I need to prepare mentally for the weekend. At least try for an 80/20 in the eating department. We’ll see. And that’s all for now. Not sure I’ll be waking up for the 5a.m. tomorrow but I’m gonna try! Have a beautiful day and as always BE FREAKIN AWESOME.

BOOM BOOM BOOMIN’

Where to start, where to start! It was a long day on Saturday full of football, chilly weather and then BARBELLS FOR BOOBS! I was running way late due to football running long. As Ernie would say “She’ll be late to her own funeral!” But I was booking it the best I could!

It was a great turnout for the B4B event! Everyone was killing it and having a blast. My oldest kiddo Jonas had already done Grace by the time I got there but he finished in 3:06 doing 85lbs! So proud of him and how far he’s come strength wise. And so JEALOUS! All the ladies had already gone by the time I was warmed up except for Mel. I knew Mel would kill it as she is SUPERWOMAN. I was just hoping to finish! I did the RX weight of 85lbs and knocked out 10 so fast, I was excited and then I hit a wall. A wall of suck! Time 6:06 (I think, something close) Two things plagued me – 1. not pacing myself better and 2. Not eating pretty much all day. I had 2 sausage rolls, and a bag of Cheddar Sour Cream chips with Nacho cheese sauce on them… besides being super unhealthy and gross sounding, they ended up being really tasty and definitely a FIRST for me as far as eating cheesed up chips out of the bag. I must have looked so sad and pathetic. Thank you all again who donated to Barbells For Boobs! Our team earned a little over $700 which is great! You can still donate if you wish, right here!

After B4B we chowed down on some protein and veggies. And boy oh boy was it good! I had marinated some fajita meat and some chicken breasts and thanks to our GrillMaster Josh, everything came out great. The chicken was the big hit so for those of you who tasted it and wanted to know what I used to season it here it is:
Please note, I have a heavy hand with spices and I don’t measure! I used: chili powder, himalayan salt, pepper, cumin, garlic powder, lemon pepper. I mixed it in a small bowl then I rubbed it onto chicken thoroughly. I really put some love into that chicken, haha. I then put some olive oil, red wine vinegar and chicken broth in a gallon zip lock bag. If I were to guess, I’d say it was about 2tbs or less of olive oil, a few shakes of the vinegar and maybe a 1/4 cup of chicken broth. Plopped the chicken in bag, sealed it up and gave it a good shake. Left in fridge till it was time to go. It probably marinated a good 8 hours. It was cooked perfectly and tasted FANTASTIC!

#OccupyBoom
After we stuffed our faces a few of us were still hanging around so we challenged each other to on the spot WODs. Sherry and I were teammates and not sure how we would fare against all the BOYS! Of course Jonas was ready to challenge his mama and that he did. We had a list of movements on the whiteboard. His team picked two Movements, Coach came up with the workout and then we negotiated from there. Well we had Deadlifts and Cleans. The weight was 75lbs for us ladies and 115lbs for the guys. It was going to be a 7 minute AMRAP of 10 DLs and 5 Cleans. There were 3 people on Jonas’ team and only two of us which I was thinking was UNFAIR, HAHAH! So with the help of Travis we threw out a 50 Double Under buy in. They accepted and 3-2-1 GO. I did DUs faster than I have ever done them before. I knew I had to because with us only having 2 people vs their 3 I knew we’d have to get in a lead. We managed 10 rounds 4 reps and led by 1 round the whole time until the END, they somehow caught us and beat us by 5 reps 😦 womp womp! It was fine though, I was still beat from GRACE and then we just did more cleans and a bunch of DLs. After that we watched the boys challenge each other. It was a good time. I hope we do more nights like that!

Today’s WOD
Holy Shitakes it was COLD this morning. Probably not cold for you folks in the North but cold for me! 36°, brrrrr. A good wake up call is taking a 400m run and breathing in all that cold air! But after eating BREADS on Sunday all the cold air in the world wasn’t going to clear my brain.

Skill/Strength: 3 x 3 Back Squat at 90% of 1 RM. Now if I did my math right, and by that I mean use my 1RM for Back Squat, I should have worked up to 130lbs and started my sets there. But with my BAGEL brain, I calculated off my 1RM DEADLIFT!

Who does that? This girl does! So I’m STILL WARMING up and was thinking 125lbs was a lil heavy but suck it up. Moved up to 135lbs, A LIL HEAVIER and then jumped to 155lbs and managed 1 REP. I’m thinking I still have to get up to at least 165lbs and that is NOT gonna happen. Well DODO brain me realizes at the same time Coach is looking at our MAX whiteboard that I’m doing the wrong weights and I just PR’d my BACK SQUAT! WOWOW DON’T EAT BREAD/JUNK, IT F**** YOUR BRAIN UP! I did however put in some extra work into those Back Squats!

MetCon: 12 minute AMRAP of 5 Chest to Bar Pull Ups, 10 Clapping Push Ups and 15 Jumping Air Squats. Well shitfire, are you kidding me? I got some bands on the bar for my Pull Ups and attempted some Clapping Push Ups and figured I just had to go the best I could. My first round of banded CTB Pull Ups weren’t too bad and the first round of Push Ups were awkward but I made it through, Kudos to all of you that can do them, THEY SUCK! Jumping Air Squats were fine at first but I was so winded by the end everything just hurt. By my third round of CTB Pull Ups I was struggling so Coach modified me to 8 Pull Ups vs. 5 CTB ones. That helped a little but not much. I was also given the option to not have to CLAP on the push ups but I didn’t take that option so I kept on with the Clapping Push Ups. Final: 4 rounds + 8 Pull Ups + 10 Clapping Push Ups. I WAS BEAT!

Needless to say I’m sore, tired, cold, and in a brain fog. I hope you all are faring much better than I. Looking forward to a healthier WEEK and just getting back to AWESOME. Have an amazing Monday folks!

Mission Accomplished!

If you’re new to reading my blog or just don’t ever finish it all the way through then you won’t know I’ve been trying to raise money for Barbells for Boobs. I didn’t set a super lofty goal but I wanted to raise $100 for the B4B event we are having at CrossFit Boom tomorrow at 6pm. Low and behold a few folks stepped up to the call and helped me out. I am very thankful to you all! I’ve given you all shout outs on Facebook but THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN: Shelley, Mel, Shawn, Sherrie, Rose, Jill and Jenn!

If you are in the DFW area and would like to spectate or participate tomorrow at 6pm, then please do. Check us out at CrossFit Boom or find our team link here to donate. Help our team raise as much money as possible for B4B!

Like I’ve been telling you all, right after B4B is completed we are going to have some friendly WOD throwdowns! It will be a lot of fun and we will have foods to eat! BYOB(eef) or any other protein you’d like grilled up. Not sure how long we will go but it’s sure to be a good time!

Today’s WOD
It was a lil chilly this morning and hard to roll out of bed but once you get movin in the BOOM Box you warm up pretty quickly.

10/26/12 WOD

Skill/Strength: 4 x 5 Good Mornings 55lbs
I’m pretty sure I’ve only ever perf0rmed this with PVC pipe during a warm up session. Today we warmed up with the bar then added some weight. Overall this felt alright. I don’t think I ever had bad from and we went through our sets pretty easily. My left hamstring wasn’t too happy by the end but nothing serious.

MetCon:
TEAM WOD 100 Back Squats OR 75 Front Squats OR 50 OHS @85lbs with 2 Shoulder to Overhead EMOM
My partner and I clearly wanted to do the Overhead Squats due to less reps, but it is a little more difficult movement. After some warming up and putting weight on the bar, we opted for Front Squats. We both had to do the same weight so we ended up at 65lbs. I got 20 knocked out in the first minute and did the first two Push Presses. We were able to rack bar before switching out which was nice. It was great to have a little rest. We ended up with a time of 3:56. I think Coach was surprised we all finished rather quickly so we had a POPWOD. POPWOD???!!!???? This is new to us what ever could it be? Well he had us get the bar up into a overhead position as if you were doing an overhead squat.

We then had to do lunges in place for 50 reps, per person. I’m not the best at lunges. Pair that with awkward overhead position, I was a little scared! 3-2-1 GO – I got this! It wasn’t near as hard as I thought it would be. My legs were a little JELLO-like towards the end. We broke our sets up into 2 sets each. Time: 4:05

It’s FRIDAY! WOOOOO and it’s COLD – BOOOOO! (cold for me and my wussy Texan self) If you can come out tomorrow evening then please come out! I would love for y’all to be there. Other than that, have a WONDERFUL WEEKEND and make it super AWESOME!!!
