Surviving the Week

friday

It’s Friday! Woooo! Only one bad meal this week so far. And it was only bad due to the beverages I consumed. But other than that this week has gone along quite nicely. I’m struggling a bit with the workouts but I am getting them done!

Considering this isn’t my first rodeo, I thought I would be feeling more food withdrawals. But this time around, I’m only feeling a little sluggish. But not much more than that. I’m not even a full week in though, so there’s still time for a little bit of misery. Not that I’m hoping for it, but I don’t want to relax and then it hit me like a ton of bricks. That would be a good time to fail :/

thinking_positive1

It helps to try and have a positive attitude though, which can be hard. Along with most of the overweight world, I wish there was an easy fix. But there is not. I wish that my couple of days of hard work translated to 20lbs weight loss. But it hasn’t. I wish that as long as I’m working hard in my workouts than the food I eat doesn’t work against me. But it does. All of those things could bring me down, but then I’d be back in the same rut. Miserable. There’s no time for loser talk though. Chin Up. Move forward. Think happy thoughts!

But it does take time and it’s not instant. It’s not the Biggest Loser Ranch over here, where they workout for hours and hours each day. It’s life and it’s busy. But feeling better is half the battle and that my friends is my instant gratification. I don’t feel as bloated and my mind is much clearer. I feel better. I just have to wait a little bit to feel super awesome, when the fluff melts away. And the fluff will melt away!

Warm Up Game: coaches choice (have fun)
I don’t know that our “games” were fun. We held Planks in the Push Up Position and passed a Medball around like hot potato. But after you got the ball and passed it you had to do a push up. When one person fell, the circle got smaller. The was a burner on the triceps. I was out after a couple of minutes. The second game was a 200m run with a cone. Kind of like carrying an egg on a spoon run. I gave up after 100m.

4/16/14 WOD

4/16/14 WOD

MetCon TEAM WOD – at least 3 person teams. 1 person working you must tag in from the starting line (mats)

5 min cap
40 Pull Ups
50 Russian KB swings 1.5 Pood for everyone

rest 2 min

8 min cap
100 Sit Ups
70 Back Squats 75# for everyone

rest 2 min

3 min cap
15 Burpees
10 ft ring for the guys
8 ft for the ladies

For our first round, only one of us has Pull Ups. But coach allowed us to do Ring Rows instead of Pull Ups but we couldn’t do more than half of the reps. So Tory, did 10 Pull Ups, Karen and I did 10 Ring Rows each and Tory finished with 10 more Pull Ups. Then we moved onto the Russian KB Swings. I put in 25 reps and Karen tagged in and picked up the other 25. Thankful that Tory could do Pull Ups, she got a break! Time: 3:51

For the second round we were pretty confident going in. Tory started us off with 30 Sit Ups. She felt she was slowing down, so she tagged Karen in. Well Karen went all out and busted 50 reps in, leaving me with only 20 to do. Back Squats were light but for some reason I wasn’t feeling it. Tory started us off with 15, Karen and I both did sets of 10 and then I don’t remember the rest. But we got our 70 reps in. Time: 6:45

And finally the third round. Burpees then jump and touch 8ft target. Before class even started I was practicing to reach the target and I was missing it by half an inch. Tory then pointed out I might be better off if I was directly under the target instead of Jumping at it from an angle. Well that worked! So I was ready. Time started and Tory did 15 of the reps right off the bat. Easy! So Karen and I split up the 5. My first attempt at hitting the target was a fail but I finally got it and didn’t have a problem after that. We didn’t get our time written on the board but it was some were around 1:33.

Overall that was a good Team WOD … no running involved!

4/17/14
Midline: accumulate 5 min of low plank
I know all this midline work is good for me but it’s really a pain in my arse. I held on for 1 1/2 minutes before I dropped. Then finished in 20 – 45 sec increments. Took me right at 8 minutes to accumulate 5 minutes worth of plank.

MetCon: 4 rounds of 200 m run, 10 DL 225/155 and 10 T2B followed by TABATA dips
I warmed up to 135lbs on my Deadlift and it felt heavy, maybe cause I’m tired. Who knows. But I thought 20 more lbs. I just need to throw it on there. I did a couple and was like I’ll be slow but it’s doable. I forgot however that Toes To Bar followed! Doh. We just killed our core doing plank. Now I have Deadlifts and T2B after a run. I just wasn’t sure I’d survive.

4/17/14 WOD

4/17/14 WOD

And we’re off. My shins hate me, but I ran most of the first 200m, just walked in the last 10m or so. Then I got 5 DLs in before dropping the bar, then did the other 5. Got to the T2B and slowly did one at a time. I can’t string them together and it takes a lot of effort to do just one, but I am getting better. I didn’t even look at the clock when I finished round one cause I knew it would be sad. The “running” part of my runs got shorter and shorter each time but I at least trotted or jogged 3/4 of the run. I got a little better at the Deadlifts and stayed about the same with T2B. Time: 21:10 RX.

I was still dying when I was reminded we had TABATA dips to still complete. TABATA is doing a movement for 20 seconds, then resting for 10 seconds for 8 rounds. It doesn’t seem like it would be hard but it’s not easy. This is a workout where you want to get as many reps as possible in the 20 seconds. Then the goal is to meet that same rep count each round. Your lowest score is your score. I did modified dips and started off with 6 then dropped to 5, then 4, then held out at 3. My triceps died. Score: 3

That’s A Wrap!
My biggest battles are the weekends. On the go = opportunity to eat really really bad. Hopefully I can conquer this weekend and be successful! I hope you all will too. It’s Resurrection Weekend aka Easter to most folks. A weekend that has the potential to be full of lots of yummy foods and candies. Show some restraint if you can because this weekend isn’t supposed to be based on celebrating food. Unfortunately, as a society, myself included that’s what we are drawn to – FOOD (savory meals, big desserts, easter candy). Sure there’s fellowship and church and family but a lot of times FOOD is the center piece to all of the above. I’m not opposed to indulging every now and then but if you’re on a mission, whether your months in or days in. Just remember you have work to do and you don’t have to go nutso on the eating. And if you by chance do lose it, it’s going to be ok. Monday is a whole new day. Have a beautiful weekend!

Icemageddon 2013 @!$$%&*!@***

images

Thank goodness the ICE is melting away. For those of you who don’t know, I live in TEXAS. We don’t get nice fluffy snow to play in. We get ICE. And we get ICED in. No fun. I fell several times on the ice, once even trying to catch myself with my bum wrist/hand. That HURT. But so far no further major issues. I’ve been a caged bird. And to top it off, I had to get my AC/HEAT unit replaced on Monday. So after a cozy stay at my dads for 4 days. I had to return to my freezing cold home while I got a whole new system. Brrrrrrr. But all is better now that I have a heater that works and the roads are drivable…. for the most part.

At least the kids had fun!

At least the kids had fun!

11/5/13
Last week I left off saying I was going to miss Thursday workout, but due to the incoming weather, all afterschool activities for my kids got canceled and I got to make an evening class at the BOOM Box.

3 sets of 100 ft sled pull backwards (3/2) plates and 20 Air Squats AFAP, rest 2 minutes between efforts.
Out of the 4 of us there, I was the only girl. With 2 sleds I was pulling the sled with the 2 weights. But by my 3rd pull, there was 3 weights so we could get out of the freezing cold weather. Instead of taking off the weight, I just pulled it. And OMG it was freakin hard. And of course it was on the uphill of our parking lot. I thought I’d just be tough and I think it almost killed me! It was only an additional 45lbs but it felt like an additional 100lbs. Coach saw me struggle and was going to rescue me but I just dug in and finished. Kind of felt good to finish strong like that. The 20 Air Squats after that were so miserable though.

12/5/13 WOD

MetCon: For time – 250 m row, 30 kb swings (2/1.5), American, 500 m row, 20 kb swings, 1000 m row, 10 kb swings
Before we got started I tested out the KB swings at a lighter weight. American standards are to get the KB overhead. With my wrist still being wonky, I opted for Russian swings which are at eye level. I still did the 1.5 POOD though. The first row didn’t go as bad as I thought it would. I don’t recall my time exactly but I’m pretty sure it’s one of my better times. It was all downhill from there. I suck at rowing but oh how I wish I was good at it. The first set of KB swings weren’t too bad. I did 15, 5 and 10. I just didn’t feel like I had a good grip. The 1000m row I thought was going to kill me. There was a handful of times I was literally fighting internally with myself on if I should stop. I’m glad I didn’t stop but it wore me out. For my last set of KB swings, I just had to keep telling myself HOLD ON. DON’T STOP. It was struggle to the end. Time: 13:35.

12/6/13 ICEMAGEDDON has arrived.
After a lot of bs’ing and statements of bravery at Thursdays WOD, there was a decision that if the roads were driveable then we would have a 5am class. It’s fortunate I’m not far from the BOOM Box. And it was fortunate that the white stuff on the ground was slushy at 4:30 a.m. The slush didn’t stay slush, making FRIDAY, SATURDAY and half of SUNDAY miserable!

Mobility: Hips and Shoulders

MetCon: 20 min AMRAP of Elizabeth 21-15-9 Squat cleans 135/95 ring dips
Of course I had to modify. I did Front Squats and Push Ups. I still don’t have the wrist mobility to rack the weight so I’m over there Frankenstein-ing it. My squats are week. I think I only had 65lbs on the bar and I was STRUGGLING! I did closed fist Push Ups instead of the ring dips. I started off strong but had to resort to scaling down to my knees.

12/6/13 WOD

12/6/13 WOD

Elizabeth is normally just 21-15-9 for time. But this icey morning called for an AMRAP. Woooo fun. It was a perfect beatdown before the CABIN FEVER, STUFF MY FACE WOD commenced for 3 days straight. I managed to get through 2 full rounds + 5 reps into the 3rd round of Squats.

12/9/13
Once my heater was installed and my bones warmed up, I figured I get a WOD in. I had a killer headache at 5am, probably from all the junk, and just couldn’t get moving.

Strength: Back Squat 3×5 @80%
I may not have the flexibility to rack the bar for front squat but I now have some flexibility for back squat. I didn’t get NEAR my 80% but I was able to FINALLY hold the bar for the Back Squat in general! WOOOO!

12/9/13

12/9/13

MetCon: 3 rounds 1 min at each station HR Push Ups, Box Step Overs 20″, Hollow Rocks, Jumping Split Lunges, Ring Rows, Rest
This was Fight Gone Bad Style. I did mention I stuffed my face for several days right? This wasn’t going to be pretty.
My Push Ups were a hybrid of my left hand being flat on the ground and my right hand in a fist. The Box Step Overs were dizzy-ing. The Hollow Rocks SUCKED DONKEY BALLS. I probably did best at Jumping Split Lunges even though I paused frequently. And RING ROWS were a butt whoopin. I had a low score of 310 reps. There were names on the board at over 500 reps… WTH?!?!? I bow down to you beastly folks.

The End
And then there’s today. Where my roughly over an hour drive into work turned into 2.5 hours. I should have just stayed home. Let’s hope my drive home isn’t so miserable. There were reports of people being stuck in their cars for 24 hours on Friday evening. SO GLAD I didn’t attempt that trek! It’s good being back at the BOX consistently. And hopefully I can get on to cleaner eating now that the depression is wearing off. I hope you all are doing well, staying on track and of course BEING AWESOME!

Forced Rest Day

I need a good massage ASAP! I could very well be falling apart. Can I blame the cooler weather for my joints and muscles wanting to flee from my body? Saturday I finally made it to a Community WOD… Woohooo! But Sunday I woke up and my left shoulder was dead. DEAD I tell you. It was a struggle to put on my seat belt all freakin day. Much less get dressed, put on a hoody, lie down, etc. Needless to say when 4 a.m. rolled around yesterday, I assessed that I was going to be worthless for the 5 a.m. WOD. I did make it in to an evening class and now my legs are dead after Squats and my shoulders are hating on me now after lots o’ Push Ups. Today has to be a rest day for me.

working-out-with-sore-muscles-300x154

But let me backtrack a couple of days and catch you up on my workouts. Cause I know you’ve all been waiting anxiously for such! I wish :/ It’s ok. You all have lives. And probably more exciting than mine!

10/4/13
Test day: Max rope climbs in 5 minutes
Yup that’s right folks, I’m still scared of the rope and the climbing of the rope. It sucks. Coach had me work on some things but I still have that fear. So for me it wasn’t rope climbs, it was: lie on the ground and pull myself upright using the rope. I’m pretty sure this is what killed my shoulders. With DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness), I didn’t feel it till Sunday :/

MetCon: Death By 10 Meters
It’s been a while since we’ve done Death by anything. And Death by 10 meters shows up. A few weeks ago, I did my own death by what I assumed was 20 meters. maybe less? I didn’t have an accurate measurement. But we did for this MetCon. I know we’ve done this at the BOOM Box but I have no record of it, so it was a loooong time ago before I started blogging. I found a post where I did it on my own last year and holy heckola I got 14 rounds! And for this MetCon I got 15 rounds. 20m shy of completing 16 rounds. I guess improvement is better than NO improvement right?

10/5/13 Community WOD
Sprints and Burpees. Or should I say JOGGING and BURPEES. So I walk up for 9 a.m. at a local high school and there’s a handful of us warming up but there’s 2 overachievers there already for the Endurance group that showed up at 8 a.m. Hehe Jokes ladies. Y’all are awesome and I’m only envious! Jordan happened to even be more awesome and stick around for whatever Coach was going to cook up for us. Burpees and Running! Team WOD. Ugh. Poor Jordan was my partner. Not only did she just run 78o898 miles, now she has to do more running and have the worst partner EVER! Ah well, it is what it is.

burpees

So here it goes, 50 burpees, 200yds, 40 burpees, 160yds, 30 burpees, 120yds, 20 burpees, 80yds, 10 burpees, 40yds.
As a team we had to complete the burpees so we split em up. But we had to run as a team and not split up the run. We were on the football field so we ran the 100yds and ran back. Did burpees then shortened the run by 20yds and run back. We didn’t get a time but I’d say we did alright. The runs were a struggle. I started off burpees like a champ but faded fast. Thank goodness we surived. We then moved on to playing on the monkey bars (which I suck at), and playing around on the different outdoor stuff the high school has. We ended with scaling a concrete wall. NOT FUN. Ok it was fun when I could get my chunkalunk butt over but not fun when I couldn’t. The wall had an incline, so I could clear it at the bottom where it was shorter and in the middle. But at the end where the wall is taller than me, it was a NO GO.

10/7/13
Strength: 4×8 @75% 2-3-min rest
Even holding the bar for back squats was putting a strain on my shoulder but it wasn’t bad and I worked on it in between sets. Still sucked though. The Squats weren’t any more fun. There’s something about 8 reps that seems so hard. It’s not and it’s only 75% but I struggled. The easiest set was the 3rd set. For some reason, I was down and up pretty quickly. I guess it took a little bit for my brain to realize it’s not so bad.

MetCon: 8 Rounds of 10 Front Squats (95,65) and 12 HR Push Ups
Sounds like a ton of fun doesn’t it? Light weight on Front Squats and not too many Push Ups. Well my first round was completed in 26 seconds! Woooo and then my second round took over 30 seconds and then who the hell knows. My shoulder was dying. My right palm was tightening up on me. I was a mess. I was really hoping for sub 10 on this but I just couldn’t pull my squats together as fast as I hoped! Final: 10:49 RX

Bread does a Body Bad

Bad for Health

It’s true even though I love the bread along with the rest of America. I always have been a bread and pastry junky. When I first went Paleo and was 100% committed I cut it all out. I lost weight, felt great and was doing just fine but those little mental temptations would get me and I’d struggle to get back on track. Needless to say if you know what’s going on with me you KNOW I’m not eating all the awesomely the past few months. I still manage to get good breakfasts and good lunches. It’s the dinners and weekends that sometimes are off … and sometimes WAY OFF.

Yesterday was one of those OFF days and this morning I could feel it in every joint. My wrists, my ankles, my shoulders. Those were the worst. I can honestly say when I go off the rails it physically pains me. And my brain is foggier than normal.

skeleton-pain-copy

I’m not trying to sell you a book or make you dive into CrossFit. I’m telling you from real day to day experience that BREAD, WHEAT, GRAINS = HURT. Processed food generally = HURT and when I eat enough of it, I just deal with it and unfortunately you allow yourself to get used to feeling like crap. And I never realized they hurt me until I cut everything out and did a reboot. Clearly, the reboot was not a PERMANENT in my situation :/ but I have had many phases of eating clean and cutting out the junk. And it never fails that the BREAD gets me. I’m not so bad with the dairy. I’m not so bad with some grains like RICE. It is clear without a doubt that anything with wheat will get me. It sucks. Sure I can splurge and love every bite, but I pay for it. Yes life is short and we all should enjoy it. But shouldn’t we also enjoy it pain free? I think so. Life can be enjoyable without BREADS. I promise it can. I just have to keep reminding myself that it’s true!

But enough of my BREAD is BAD for you. I know you just want to know my success and failures at the BOOM Box! Right?!? Hahah!

Community WOD 8/24/13
Ya, I’ve been hesitant lately because so many of the Community get togethers involve running! And teams! I don’t mind teams at all. But I do mind running and being on a team. I’m sure to let EVERYONE down. And it doesn’t motivate me to push harder in the running dept. The team just loses ground due to my loserness. But this past Saturday there was Deadlifts and Yoke Pushes. There was a little bit of UH OH in me because we had 30 minutes to get As HEAVY as POSSIBLE. Well I wasn’t mentally prepared to go HEAVY. Coach is talking 1RM PRs. I’m thinking 185lbs for 5 reps felt super heavy not too long ago. So we had 30 minutes to work. As long as we were doing more than 1 rep, we could continue moving up in weight. But once we got to singles we had to AS A TEAM push the YOKE a long ass way. I’m sure it was less than 100 yds but it was still far and we sprinted that thing across. I was smoked. But we still had more time to do Deadlifts. Due to some mental fatigue, I accidentally pulled 235lbs off the ground “thinking” I was only pulling 225lbs, which is my current 1RM. Well HOT DAMN, new PR! And I still had more in me, I think, after the YOKE, ugh I hope so. Guess what? I had another 10 lb PR. 245lbs! I did try at 250 but I was out of it mentally for sure by then. 250lbs could have been only 200 and I still probably wouldn’t have been able to pull it. I’m happy with a 20lb PR though! Woooo!

MetCon: 3 rounds 1 min max reps Air-squats, Ring Dips, Strict Pull Ups, NO REST. Then 100 hollow rocks
Then we have the MetCon and all the greatness fades away into holy crap this is gonna suck. Thank the baby Jesus that Air Squats were in there or my total reps would probably be 10. Ok maybe 12. My only hope to get a decent number in the next 9 minutes was to absolutely KILL the air squats. Because my Ring Dips are puny and my STRICT PULL UPs are worse than ever! I think the most Pull Ups I completed (with bands) was like 4. Granted the Pull Ups were the 3rd minute, so I was smoked from Ring Dips but I didn’t manage to do hundreds of those. I probably hit 20, 15 and 12 .. and that’s guessing because 2 days later I really can’t remember. Total Reps: 172. Once we regained some composure, we had to do 100 Hollow Rocks. I typically don’t mind these but today they were no fun. At about 80, I was cramping on my side. It felt like I cracked a RIB and of course I had to act like I actually did crack a rib. It was painful. The next 20 were miserable. I was miserable. The End!

MetCon: 10 rounds of 30 Double Unders and 8 Power Cleans 115/80 Time Cap: 20 minutes
You ever walk into a WOD knowing that this is your bag? You got this! Superpowers and Fave Barbell movement. I’m in. This is easy! Ya, not so EASY today for me. Maybe it was the pizza at lunch or maybe it was the Chic-fil-a for dinner. Ya I’m pretty sure it was both! And the 5 hours of sleep I had. Go ME!

8/28/13 WOD

8/28/13 WOD

I started off strong with DUs. Then moved to Cleans and I’m thinking I’ll go UNBROKEN as long as I can until I got to 4, then I dropped the bar, rested and finished the other 4. DUs still ok for round 2 and I chugged along the same on the Cleans. It all became foggy and breathless for me after that. Somewhere between round 2 and round 8, I started doing 10 Power Cleans! I only realize this cause Coach asked me where I was at while I was hunched over, hands on knees and dying. I said I have 6 reps completed for the Cleans and he says 2 to go? And I say no 4. And he says out of 8? And I GO OH SHIT I’ve been doing 10 reps. So I have no clue where I went astray but for round 8, 9, 10 I KNOW I only did the 8 reps. Also toward the end I found some consistency in my DUs, which I needed badly. Time: MUCH LONGER THAN I MENTALLY anticipated: 17:50 RX

Lesson of the Day: Don’t eat a spicy chicken sandwich with pepperjack cheese, large fries and large sweet tea 6 hours before you have to do a 10round WOD with Double Unders and Power Cleans!

This was my first 5am for this week. Monday was lazy andTues/Thurs don’t go LIVE for 5am till next week. It’s been a nice baby stepped process for me to get back to the grind. Hopefully next week, I’ll be able to feel comfortable at getting up so early regularly.

It’s HUMP Day and I think from here on till forever I will always have the Geico Camel Hump Day Commerical in my head. Have a super duper Wednesday and don’t forget to be AWESOME!

The Early Birds Can Have Their Worms!

earlybird2

Last week I had planned to get back up and at ’em for the morning workouts but that failed. This week it’s a must that I start moving to the A.M. classes. My oldest has football that is interfering with the 5 a.m. time slot so I opted for the 6 a.m., taking this as a baby step before I hit the EARLY morning WODs next week when school starts.

And boy oh boy did it SUCK! I don’t want to be an early bird anymore. I want to be an night evening owl. I don’t know how I managed to get up so early for over 2 years. In the few short months I switched over to evening classes, I have become spoiled. There are good things for getting up so early, I guess, for example my workout is DONE. But I think right now that’s the only thing going for me :/ Seriously, it’s better all around. The boys are going to be busy in the evenings and it will be too hard to juggle workouts around their schedules. And until I can become a stay at home mom, the 5 a.m class is just going to have to do. FOREVER!

So I did manage to stuff my face with all bad things and managed to avoid any real activity in regards to being fit. I cheered on my Boom Boxmates at Europa, so if that counts as a workout I’ll take it! No? It doesn’t? Damn it! I don’t even think I broke a sweat the whole weekend.

Oy vay! Was I ready for such misery? I think not! But I have no choice. And I was going RX. This is where the bad eating all weekend was going to show up. Burpees! I knew in my head I wasn’t going to kill myself with burpees. Got 16 my first round. and dropped to 12 reps the next two rounds. The Kettle Bell felt super heavy at 53lbs and I was struggling to hold on to that damn thing but managed to get 15-20 reps each round. I just couldn’t will myself to hold on for the whole minute and took way too much rest. Moved on to DUs and couldn’t get them going. Oh I was mad. The one thing I can get reps on and I’m failing miserably. Finally after 30 seconds in, I got some rhythm. Managed to do better on the following rounds. Then it was on to Push Press. I know I knocked out 10 reps easy, then slowed down a lot. On the rower I averaged about 10 calories each round. My rounds were close… 80 something, 90 something and 80 something. Final: 262 reps RX

Back Squats FOREVER!

First off, let me say HI to all the new followers! HI! I don’t know how you found me but I appreciate the likes and the follows ツ

tumblr_lukhtuIM6J1qfj7kmo1_500

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! It’s been a busy past couple of days and with the holiday weekend, I did not have time to get to any blogging in. But I did get some workouts in. I did get some good and not so good food in me and we FINALLY did a proper grocery shopping trip! Wooooo. High Five!

highfive

And Ernie is finally back to getting his ass in gear! Thank goodness for me because it’s so much easier when you have your support system back! For so long I’ve caved to his non Paleo, non CrossFitting ways! But now that we are both back on the same track I hope the failures will be less and less as time goes on! We’ll be back to our old selves in no time!

7/3/13 Boom Box
This was a “BEAR” of a work out and just an overall butt whoopin. It’s been a while since I’ve done bear crawls and lets just say my hips and shoulders were not happy!

7/3/13WOD

7/3/13WOD

WarmUp: 400m Run, 30/30 GHD

Skill/Strength: Max Effort Ring Dips, Work Up to 50
My rotator cuffs are dead to me. They don’t support me in the bottom of a ring dip and it seems as if I will never master this movement. Does anyone have some fresh shoulders that I could borrow?

Not me in this pick but this is what I look like doing modified dips with bands.

Not me in this pick but this is what I look like doing modified dips with bands.

MetCon: 2 minutes at each station of Max Distance Bear Crawl, Max KBS 1.5/1 POOD, Max Burpees, Max Bear Crawl. 30 seconds of rest between stations.

30 seconds is NOT enough time for rest! Holy geesh. On my first round of bear crawls I probably got 6 lengths of the box. Not great in my mind but battling hip failure, burnt out shoulders and a touch of dizzy was NO Fun. Moved onto Kettle Bell Swings and hot damn, my right hip was ready to explode. FIRE! I was pretty much done for by the time Burpees came along. I don’t even remember what I got but it was far less than what the healthier version of me would have completed! One more Bear Crawl to finish it off and I only got 4 lengths in. UGH! Total: 66 but I did it RX. Hahahah It counts!

7/4/13 Boom Box

godspepedmurph
It was Murph Day and I was going to show up but wasn’t sure if I was going to workout! In the end I was just a spectator. I had no want or drive to do the beast of a workout. But it was inspiring to watch everyone else. In the past on big hero WODs people tend to pair up and work together. This time around everyone went SOLO. It was amazing and I was super impressed by everyone’s determination!

Post Murph we had a little came of Wiffle Ball which turned out to be really fun. I wish more folks had stuck around to play. Maybe another time. So I did get a little sweat and fun in after all!

Food Note: I found some Kale Chips at Eatzi’s that turned out to be pretty tasty. The ingredients were clean and organic. The only downside to hardcore Paleo eaters was that there were Chickpeas in the ingredients. Other than that they were great. A little spendy but a great snack and beats junk food alternatives!

7/5/13 Boom Box
Friday was pretty much a day of lazy for us so I was suprised when Ernie was all let’s go up to Boom and workout! I was definitely ready to go but at the same time secretly wishing we’d just stay home!! Of course working out always feels great when it’s done so I’m glad we went.

7/5/13 – Had to steal this off instagram so it's not the best quality

7/5/13 WOD – Had to steal this off instagram so it’s not the best quality

Skill/Strength: Front squats; 5@60%; 3×5@70%
It seems that Front Squats don’t come around much and if they do I miss out on those days. They aren’t my favorite squat either but I felt good working. My last tested 1RM from who knows how long ago is 135lbs. So 80lbs and 95lbs didn’t sound heavy. By the last set, 95lbs felt heavy.

MetCon: 7 rounds of 2 minute AMRAP 30 situps, ME DU, Rest 1 min
Situps and Double Unders. Should be a win/win right here. I started off strong with the situps but the DU’s weren’t really working in my favor for the first round. I was tripping up a lot on the darn rope. After the 3rd round, I just was stuck at a slower pace for the situps. No matter how hard I tried to bust them out I was finishing around 50-58 seconds. Leaving me a minute to get max DUs! I stayed pretty consistent with the my DU count having only one really off round. All said and done I completed 333 DUs and was smoked! My calves were JELL-O on Saturday.

7/8/13
We took the weekend off so it was nice to have a little break but I definitely need to be putting in the work. Unfortunately my mindset for the Monday workout was not liking all the Back Squats that were about to go down!

7/8/13

7/8/13

Skill/Strength: Squat – 10@60%; 8@65%; 6@70%; 6@75%; 6@80%
WoooWeeeee. That’s a lot of squats on order. And everything just felt so HEAVY! Coach wants us to get STRONG!!!! Of course it’s what I need but just seeing it on the board makes me want to go home and sleep. I started at 100lbs and worked my way up to 130lbs. Even though all the reps can be intimidating it felt really great to finish strong.

MetCon: 10 minute AMRAP of 6 Deadlifts (225,155) and 6 HSPU or 3 Wall walks
Coach had us work up to a weight we were comfortable with for Deadlifts. My 1RM is 225 but multiple reps for time after all of those back squats was going to have to be less than 155lbs.I got to 135lbs and that seemed to suit me just fine. It was Wall Walks that I feared. I don’t have Handstand Push Ups down so I had to default to the Wall Walks. I have only ever had to do this movement one time before and it made me nauseous and dizzy. We only had to do 3 so I figured I’d survive but I wasn’t looking forward to it.

I moved the weight pretty nicely, and I thought I should have done RX but after a few rounds I was grateful I stuck with a slightly lower weight. The Wall Walks took the life out of me. My recovery time was slow. I couldn’t get to the bar fast and it took me forever to pick up the bar. Final: 6 rounds + 1 Deadlift.

Grocery Field Trip
It’s been so long since we’ve headed out to have a proper grocery trip so we decided to go big and drive to the ginormous WHOLE FOODS in Dallas. The one in Arlington is sufficient but it’s tiny and part of our regular routine. Going the Park Lane location was a fun little field trip. We didn’t spend hours strolling around but they seem to have a better selection of produce and meats. We stocked up for the week excited to be back on it.

workout-motivation-21

So far so good. We’ve been cooking, eating our cooked food and feeling good. As I’ve mentioned before it’s amazing what a couple of days of all goodness will do to your body. My achy IT Band/Knee are no longer achy. My sore tight wrists are no longer sore and tight! It just feels good to feel good. Now I wish my muscles would just bounce back faster. With time I know they will. I’m just a big baby!

It’s Tuesday folks! What have you done to make a healthier you? Eat healthy fats? Drink more water? Get that body a movin? Let’s go.

Have a super day and don’t forget to be AWeSOMe!

Made it!

success

Woooo I woke up on a Thursday morning to go workout! Typically Thursday is a rest day for me because it was OLY Class day and 5 am was not an option. But starting last week Thursdays became available for regular workouts and of course the first go round I slept in! Not today, Jack!

Eat to Perform
So far I’ve also been a champ on eating to perform! At least getting 90-95% on target. Probably a lil closer but I don’t want to do the math. I have also just started getting used to drinking my coffee black so now I’m considering going bulletproof by adding the butter and the MCT oil. I’m not well versed in what it’s all about yet but once I get it all researched I’ll share some more. If you already do this and have seen some positive OR negative things, PLEASE PLEASE let me know. I think it will help me hit my FAT intake target much better. I finally restocked on coconut flakes as well and if I would remember to pack them in my lunch I’d probably be better off!

chicken

The eating test is ON starting NOW. From NOW till Wednesday next week we will be NON-STOP all over the place with little to no time to cook, eat, breathe, etc. So I gotta be crafty with the food and not let LIFE get in the way. And even more than life getting in the way, I need my slacker side of my brain to co-operate with the disciplined side of my brain and take care of business! If anyone wants to just cook for me and deliver for the next 6 days, it’d be greatly appreciated!

Today’s WOD
Skill/Strength: Free Handstand Holds and/or Pistol work
Pistols are a super weakness for me and I should work on them but my IT band has been on the mend. Hopefully with the cleaner eating I will clear that up. I opted for Free Handstands. Once upon a time I could hold handstands, not forever, but for a long time. Oh to be young or to have just stuck with it! I can still easily get upside down but we use the wall regularly and that has become my safety net. It’s nice to work on Handstands today because I don’t typically do this on my free time. I managed to get a few seconds of freestanding, which I guess is better than NO seconds. Just one more thing to add to my list of mini goals!

4/11/13 WOD

4/11/13 WOD

MetCon: 4 rounds of 4 Back Squats (225lbs, 135lbs), 10 One Arm KB Snatch (1.5pood/1pood), and 16 lunges
As I was warming up to 135 lbs I was thinking this is heavy! And it felt heavy. It’s about 82% of my 1RM. Coach was confident I could do the weight for all the rounds and I really wanted the RX so I did it. But I wasn’t sure about the 1 POOD Snatch. I know I can do it but not sure if I can do all the reps in good time. I still don’t have the best timing when it comes to KB Snatch and I still got bruises on my forearms from the workout but I do feel I did better overall. There’s not much to say about the Lunges except they smoke you just in time for the Back Squats! And boy was I smoked. I spent too much time contemplating if my legs were ready for the Squats. I did the first and last round of Squats UnBroken but I racked the weight and split up the reps for the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I knew I wasn’t moving fast but at the same time I wasn’t really stopping except for the moments right before the squats. It was a slow but good butt whoopin! Hahah. SLOW, a sub 10 minute workout! I guess SLOW isn’t the best word, but a heavy squat for me takes some time to focus. Time: 9:35.

No Words

d68fb54c_1319347429001

There are no words to describe what showing up to workout does for my mindset. Even if it’s not at my very best. On Sunday I self-sabotaged and dived into the MSG cesspool of what we all know and love (ok maybe it’s just me) as the Chinese Buffet. A new one popped up near us and it was shiny and new. Why not? Right. There are so many reasons as to why not – mystery meats, mystery sauces, etc.

buffet_chinese

My stomach grumbled the whole evening, the whole night and straight into the morning. I was not up to par for some Monday morning running at the BOOM Box, SOOOOO I slept in. And I felt it all day. Granted the junk in my body had to filter it’s way through but I just was blah all day. It was noticeable.

This morning however, although I was hurting, I still showed up to CrossFit Boom. I ate my egg whites post workout, I ate my breakfast and I feel so much better. Mentally and physically the fog is lifting and I move forward. When you make working out part of your everyday it’s a big hole in your world when you skip out. Especially after some good rest and recovery.

601126_381501765280001_253286994_n

Now I know some of you dive in, kill yourselves, you can’t move for days and by the time you get back in the gym it’s like starting over. And then you quit! Well it’s a vicious cycle I know. Just the same as eating JUNK. But you have to mentally plow through. Stick with it. Forge on. Don’t get stuck in the excuses people. I for one like to get stuck in them and KNOW this about myself already. It’s really all about self awareness and rising above what brings you down. I have learned personally since my completion of the Whole30 that I can’t be a one foot in, one foot out kind of person. I sway to much to the one foot that is on the outside. So last night, I said enough is enough and I got back on the cooking train. I made plenty of veggies to help me through the week. I have my proteins defrosting. Now I just need to get some bone broth back in my arsenal and all will be well in the world!

2/23/13 WOD
OoooEeeee, this was going to be work. And it was one of those crawl back in bed mornings. Coach could read it in all our bodies and faces. It was a drag ass start. But we finally got into it.

Skill/Strength: 15 minutes to establish a 1RM of the barbell complex:
1 Clean
3 Front Squats
1 Jerk
3 Back Squats
1 Behind the Neck Jerk

It’s been a while since I’ve done any sort of complex. You don’t realize how much it takes out of you. I wasn’t in any hurry to jump up to big weight and I wanted to really focus. I worked my way up to 95lbs. I really should have got 105lbs but I was having that whole drop under the bar issue in Cleaning the bar. And 105 is a weight I know I can do. It’s yet to be pretty, but I can Clean it. But I feel I did alright. Nothing amazeballs but I felt good.

MetCon: 3 rounds 14 CTB, 7 Snatches (full squat) 135/85#
I don’t have Pull Ups so we all know I’m not doing Chest To Bar. I choose banded Pull Ups… as if i have a choice! And Snatches. Over time I’ve learned not to dread this movement but I still have a ways to go in technique. I stuck with 55lbs for this WOD. It was a good weight for me to move quickly and still have good form. I knocked out the Pull Ups easier than I have in the past… is this Progress knocking at my door? Yes I think so! My first round of Snatches were a little sloppy. I was not keeping the bar close enough to my body. Once I corrected that I was on a roll. My 2nd and 3rd round of Pull Ups didn’t go as easily as the first round. But my Snatch got better. My forearms were spent but overall I felt good. Time: 11:01

2/26/13 WOD
Like I mentioned previously, It was nice to just show up even though I didn’t have the best performance. It was extra cold and windy this morning and everything was achy!

Skill/Strength: Pull Ups
I can’t complain. I need to get better. You can’t get better without working on it and so many of the BOOM ladies are knocking these out like they are easy or something! Pull Up land is waiting for me. I feel like I’m getting there. Still slow as a snail but I’m getting there.

022613wod

MetCon: CrossFit Games Open WOD 12.5 – 7 minute AMRAP of 3 Thrusters, 3 CTB, 6 Thrusters, 6 CTB, 9 Thrusters, 9 CTB, etc.
The RX for Thrusters was 65lbs. Shouldn’t be a problem. But into my 2nd round, I had a pinch in my shoulder that hurt like bloody hell. I couldn’t push past it so I dropped the weight to 55lbs. The pain didn’t go away but I stuck with it. Hoping it’s just inflammation from the Buffet Indulgence. Again, with the Pull Ups I felt I had a little more in me than I have in the past. My shoulder however really was hindering me. Total Reps: 48 :/ I did better last year but I wasn’t in pain last year. I took a lot of time standing around. I feel confident I could have done much better had I not taken the time to switch weight, stand around in pain, etc. I made sure to do some hurts so good mobility afterwards. Hoping that helps in the long run.

That’s it for this Beautiful Tuesday. I’m hoping this week stays strong and positive! Stay focused. Drop the Excuses and as always be AWESOME!

I’m Baaaaccckkkkk!

Even though I kind of sort of don’t want to be back! Is that bad? Being off for over 2 weeks is definitely sucky and now a big NO NO in my book. But dang I’ve slept in for 2 weeks straight! Hopefully I don’t ever have this long of a break again. I believe in rest I really do but this long just makes me feel so mentally defeated. My apologies to all of you who actually take the time to read my long and rambling posts. I’m sorry I’ve been away. And I also apologize to all you bloggers I follow regularly. There has been ZERO blog reading on my end. I plan to catch up and check in with you all. Please know I have not abandoned you!

Let me recap for you how it all went down. Arlington Thunder Jr. Pee Wee football earned their way into the National Championships. My middle kiddo plays with this team. This was HUGE and an amazing accomplishment. So we travel to Florida.

justice_florida

DSC02150

We stay in itty bitty rooms with no microwaves, kitchen, NO MONEY, etc. Fortunately we knew this ahead of time, so we packed our own microwave. Our first night in we are starving and the trailer carrying all of our stuff is still in route, so after we order in room service pizza costing us $60 we knew we had to make it to Wally World ASAP. Being on limited time, money and limited cooking capabilities we went all out on the easy to eat, junk food junkie route. I’ve never eaten so many PB&J sandwiches in my life. Add hot dogs, cheap ass burritos and a shit ton of cookies and chips and we’re good. We also ate your basic fruits – apples, bananas and clementines but really what are those going to do for us?!? Clearly our dietary habits were going to hell in a handbasket. With the way the scheduling of practice, games and study hall we didn’t have time to hit up a very close and nearby box, so there goes any WORKOUT. I mean we could have done something around the hotel….but we DID NOT! Hopefully walking around all the Disney parks helped out a little… but I can feel my waist, hips and legs expanding and at a very fast rate. Two days before heading home, I get slammed with the ugliest stomach virus I’ve ever had. It was bad. And it didn’t help that I didn’t have anything resembling nutrition coursing through my body. I was pretty much dead for 1 1/2 days. I truly thought it was food poisoning but turns out I was wrong as my youngest son proved that while we were in the airplane flying home! I felt really bad for the poor soul that had to sit in the same row as him. Fortunately we were close to landing when his sickness kicked in. Unfortunately it was a domino effect and all but 1 of us got the virus. I’ll spare you the disgusting details but it took me until end of last week to really feel BETTER in general. What hasn’t been helping is that I still haven’t really given my body the proper nutrition that it needs. Paleo? what’s that? Hahah, we are so far removed from paleo right now it’s not even remotely funny.

So here I sit in my doom and gloom of my own little world feeling fat and worthless. And please believe me when I say that I KNOW there is no DOOM and GLOOM. In light of what happened on Friday, I KNOW my world is great and life is good. Please know this is my creative outlet, for fun, for shits and giggles, for griping. Not for exacerbating my already heartbroken feelings of what happened in CT. I’ve shed many tears over the tragedy and am sure to shed more. But for now, I keep true to my silly adventure that I share with you all regularly.

11/17/12 WOD
I seriously almost didn’t get up AGAIN for the BOOM Box. I knew I had to get back in it whether I thought I was ready or not. It was very apparent I was not ready this morning! When the warm up is kicking your ass, you know you have problems.

121712_Wod

Skill/Strength: Back Squat 4 x 8 @ 77.5% of 1RM
Did I mention it sucked getting back at it already? Hahah. Just in case you didn’t catch that earlier, let me say it again. THIS SUCKED! Just warming up with no weight was a butt whoopin. I didn’t even get close to the 77.5% for 8 reps. That number should have been 110 or 115lbs. I couldn’t even complete 8 reps at 105lbs! I ended up doing really really light weight at 85lbs. At least I could finish the reps out. The internal defeat was now sinking in BAD!

MetCon: Grace
I don’t wanna, I don’t wanna! Can I go home now? That’s all I could think. RX is 95lbs and for some reason I thought I did RX at B4B in October but looking back, I only did 85lbs. Either way, this morning I did 75lbs and it took me longer this morning than it did in Oct. Just put me out of my misery now! I quit! Time: 6:32! I will say even though I was dragging ass. I feel that I jerked the bar better than EVER! Coach you would be proud. Well of that only. Good thing Grant is on vacation I could already feel his eyes a disappointment and he wasn’t even there. Travis is much more tolerant of my cry baby behavior!

So I ended my return WOD with “hopefully I show up tomorrow.” My hips already feel the squats and I’m sure by tonight I’ll be filled with achy-ness. I need to get back on the AWESOME train ASAP! I hope in my absence you all have continued with the awesomeness. I need to catch up! Have a blessed day! Love your peoples and tell them you love them! And Be AWESOME while doing it!

Lightning, Thunder and PRs!

We had a nice thunderstorm going on for part of our workout today at the BOOM Box. Literally BIG BOOMS from overhead! And BIG BOOMs for some PRs today. Ok my PR wasn’t big but it’s a PR right?!?

4/20/12

Our skill strength was Back Squats 5, 3, 1+ which means more MATH. Thank goodness for calculators 🙂 So I had 115lbs, 130lbs and 145lbs. Well Ladies and Gents that last 1+ is already 5 lbs over my 1 RM! So it’s PR day or NO REP! I barely squeezed out that 1 rep went back down in hopes for 2 reps but it was a big FAIL! Ah well! At least I got the 1 rep. NEW PERSONAL RECORD?!? YES INDEED, I’ll take it!!! And Kudos to Melanie for KILLIN it with 6 reps for her PR at 140lbs!

The MetCon was 5 rounds of 20 situps and 12 pull ups. Well I have made progress on pullups but not enough to justify dropping to the green band only… THANK GOODNESS cause I sucked at the pull ups today! And I don’t suck at sit ups but they are way easier to do with an ABMATt. Dude I did my first two rounds without one but by the 3rd round all of us were at different stages so I swooped in on an empty abmat and it was HEAVENLY! You don’t realize how they help! I flew through situps EASY. I just wish I could say the same for pull ups. But I managed to finally make it through. What I thought was my last one was at 13:02 but since I got a no REP I ended at 13:22.

Community WOD at Stovall Park in the A.M. I fear it will be lots of running 😦 NO FUN, but we’ll see! And lets hope the RAIN stays away as well! Unless we’re running of course 🙂

In other NEWS the RANGERS ARE ON FIRE!!!! I totally heart these guys!

Mandatory Credit: Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE

Last but not least let’s hope I get those cookies tested out this weekend 🙂 Make it a great day, weekend, etc! SMILE even if you look like a big ol dork!
