Chugging Along – Whole30 Day EIGHT

quotes_blog_burnett

I SURVIVED THE WEEKEND! WOOOHOOOO! The weekend is where I typically crumble. We got things to do; I don’t want to plan; And then I cave in for BAD FOODS. I don’t just cave though, I disappear into the bad food, junk food abyss. But this weekend, I was prepared. And I made it!

Day FIVE Lunch/Dinner
My meals were just a combo of leftovers. A little bit of matchstick salad. A little bit of salmon. A little bit of chicken. Nothing exciting or major.

Day SIX
I started off my morning trying out YOGA at the BOOM Box. I’ve dabbled in a class or two in my past but never got into it. It’s been several years since I’ve attempted anything yoga related. Boy oh boy, do I suck at this. But as I warmed up and understood the tempo and how things went along, I did get a little better. I realize how tight everything is when I’m trying to relax. Even so far as my cheek muscles didn’t want to give. It was beneficial to me and I hope to keep on attending as the classes pop up.

When I got home, I did a quick heat of some grassfed ground beef, onions, spinach, tomatoes and over medium eggs. Ate a handful of raw trail mix and out the door we went. Good thing we came home in time for me to eat lunch, but I did have hardboiled eggs, fruit and some salad packed up just in case home wasn’t an option! Instead I stir fried some leftover chicken, threw in some broccoli and a handful of coconut flakes and voila! Lunch. And dinner was pretty much the same. Heated up and finished up leftovers. Also had a nice mug of Bone Broth. I could be an addict. It’s sooo good.

Day SEVEN
One full week in Wooooo! Before we headed out to do our shopping for the day I had some eggs, broccoli, tomatoes and a clementine. I can’t remember what fat I had but it was probably coconut flakes.

I had my shopping list in hand ready to purchase foods for Week 2 of Weeknight Paleo. Ernie really really like the pork from last week. So instead of Steaks, we are going to redo pork and just make the sides that would go with the steaks. I’m excited for the menu because it has new things like turnips and celery root, both of which are foreign to me. When we got back home, I went straight into prep mode. I was a little less enthusiastic this time around. My head started pounding. My stomach wasn’t happy and I was not feeling the prep time. I still muddled through most of it before I took my lunch break.

Paleo Chicken Salad and Sweet Potato Chips. Not a pretty pic but yummy!

Paleo Chicken Salad and Sweet Potato Chips. Not a pretty pic but yummy!

I took leftover roast chicken, way too much onion, green apple and diced it all up. Then I threw in some paleo mayo (on the verge of expiring), and voila Chicken Salad. I also took some sweet potato slices and fried them up in some coconut oil for some chips. I probably could have thrown some kind of green veggie in there but I was dragging, starving and not feeling well all at the same time. Finished up some of the prep then took a NAP! I felt a little better when I woke up and waited for my Pork Roast to finish before I did anymore food prep.

By the evening I had all of my PWO meals made. I had emergency hard boiled eggs made. I had Pork to last us a couple of meals and a few other veggies chopped and ready to go.

Day EIGHT
BOOM Box 1/13/14
Midline: 30 hollow rocks
I think I will never like these. My ribs are broken.

Strength: Front Squats 4 sets 3 reps @ temp 103X1 (10 sec neg, 3 sec hold, fast up, 1 sec at top) without dropping 10 reps AFAP
I CAN FRONT RACK THE BAR! I CAN FRONT RACK THE BAR! But that is all. Now that I know can do this, I just need to work the movement regularly. My wrist is tight but not pained. When I added weight, well that’s a little scary. So I definitely need to work my way up slowly.

As for this tempo Front Squat, negatives and what not. It was hard on me today. My left shoulder was not on my side today. It was in pain and limited mobility. So after a few reps in, the frankensteining was taking a toll. I had a hard time holding the bar up. So even though I did try to stay on track, I just couldn’t. I still got work in, just not the kind of work Coach was wanting.

1/13/14 WOD

1/13/14 WOD

MetCon: 7 min AMRAP 5 HSPU 5 Clean & Jerks 135/95
For me it was Ring Push Ups and Dumbbell Clean & Jerks (25lb dumbbells). I never felt right doing the Ring Push Ups but my triceps and shoulders were on fire, so something was working. And for the Clean & Jerks, as I got through, they seemed to get easier. Just working overhead in general is a work in progress. But I’m glad I’m working my back. Final: 6 rounds + 5 Ring Push Ups

As for PWO meal, just some chicken and pureed sweet potatoes. It was breakfast that is still OH SO HARD to eat. 1. I’m not hungry. 2. I’m not hungry. 3. I don’t want to chew my food. But alas, I had 2 hardboiled eggs, a cup of broccoli, handful of cherry tomatoes and some trail mix. At least it holds me till lunch. I just wish I could drink the meal. But Whole30 frowns on drinking your meals. Something about the chewing of food and the messages that sends your brain. Work in Progress. Just fighting through today for sure.

That’s a wrap!
As you can see, the shiny new excitement has worn off just a touch. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in this. I just am so blah about it right now. I guess the best description I have for it now is that it’s more of a chore than exciting. I need a personal chef. That would help tremendously! For real!

I hope you all are getting your workouts in and sticking to whatever healthy plans you are on! Don’t forget to stay hydrated! And Stay Strong!

Pushing My Limits

270244_217687938268482_80416_n

These past couple of days, CrossFit Boom has really been pushing me. We have been doing workouts that are destroying me (in a good way). In general I don’t feel like I’m just being more intense so it must be the WODs are just set up to kill us!

In regards to food, I’m eating way better overall, so I know it’s not JUNK bringing me down. But I still have some extra fluff to shed so maybe it’s just making it harder on the ol’ body to re-cooperate. OR maybe the WODs are just killer and I’m on the path to getting that much better!

7/30/13
Strength: 1RM axle snatch
I’ve said this in the past and I’ll say it again. I LOVE THE AXLE. It has a bigger diameter than a barbell and it’s awkward but I like it. What’s really AWKWARD though is doing SNATCH with this Axle. My Barbell Snatch is weaksauce as it is with my 1RM being 75lbs. I was just hoping to get close with the Axle. Turns out I could only go to 60lbs without that FEAR creeping in. I could pull 65lbs easy breezy but dropping under the bar was not happening. It’s so frustrating that I know the problem but mentally can’t bust through it!

7/30/13 WOD

7/30/13 WOD

MetCon: 5 Rounds 10 Clean & Jerks (135,95) 10 Burpee Pull Ups
When I initially saw the post the morning of I thought it was 10 Power Cleans. When I walked into the box and saw the 6pm class doing Clean & Jerks I was all “OH NO”. I can Clean and Jerk 105 maybe 110 for a 1RM. So 95lbs for 50 reps seemed insane. I opted to go for 85lbs, just so I wouldn’t be there for 3 days trying to finish the WOD. So pretty much this was GRACE on STEROIDS. And I haven’t even begun to think what the Burpee Pull Ups are gonna do to me!

3-2-1 GO. Uh this sucks and I’m only 2 reps in. And on top of that my crybaby self is using the 45lb bar. I started out using this bar on all lifts but as 35lb bars came in and they felt so much better on my small hands I’ve become accustomed to the 35lb bar. Now the 45lb bar seems ginormous and I have a head game going on and I’m only 30 seconds into the workout! I’m in trouble! I finally got through the 10 reps and moved onto the Burpee Pull Ups. We all know I can’t do Pull Ups so I had to stack some plates up and do Jumping Pull Ups. So drop to the ground, hop up and onto plates and get chin over bar X 10. NO FUN! Rinse and repeat the round 4 more times. It was a struggle and I was spent. I didn’t know how others had finished in such good times because the whole workout was TAXING on all body parts. Finally got to the last round and had to pick up that damn bar. I did two in a row, dropped bar, 1, 1, 2. We had a fill in Coach, Nick, and he said I could do the last 4 Unbroken. I was sure I could not but I held onto the bar and finished those reps STRONG. Thanks for pushing me on! Because I would have for sure dropped the bar otherwise. The last round of Burpees weren’t fast but I just kept going. Time: 22:46. I typically feel OK anywhere from 5-15 minutes later. This WOD had me feeling shakey a whole hour later! BRUTAL! Just BRUTAL!

7/31/13
Strength: Strict Press 5rm you have 12 minutes take 85% and do Max reps take 70% and do max reps take 50% and do max reps rest as little a possible between setsAfter Push Ups on Monday and Clean & Jerks and Burpees on Tuesday my shoulders are dead. They are sore, in pain, dead! I knew my Strict Press would be weak, I just wasn’t sure how weak! I almost had 65lbs for 5 reps but failed on the last rep. I was pushing the pain factor too much so I settled with that. The next step was to drop to 55lbs and do Max Reps. I managed 8 reps. Then dropped to 45lbs and managed 10 reps. I surprised myself and I feel like I should have got more reps but the pain in my right shoulder was kicking in. Dropped to 35lbs and managed 7 reps. Too much pain! So I ended on that.

7/31/13 WOD

7/31/13 WOD

MetCon: Test Row 5K
I’m not a rower. Let’s just get that out of the way. But I want to be! I feel being short is such a disadvantage but I know that’s just an excuse to hang my hat on, so I’m wanting to be somewhat good at this just to prove myself wrong. I wish I wanted to prove myself wrong in running as well but that’s not going to happen! So ROWING has been showing up in more of our programming. That’s a good thing. But it’s been short stuff. The longest being a 1K row. So now we’re testing for a 5K! Holy CRAP! This is all post Strict Press for me and my shoulders are weak!

I'm rowing my butt off! Far left in gray shirt.

I’m rowing my butt off! Far left in gray shirt.

I got on that rower and immediately felt everything fatigued. I was already thinking I can’t finish this row at all. I wasn’t even 1K in and I was ready to call it a day. I knew I couldn’t do that but my mind was telling me to quit. Half way in, I saw the pace I was holding, and it was putting me at a 26 minute finish. Everyone throughout the day was averaging 20-23 minutes. Not that I can judge myself compared to others but those were the numbers I was seeing. I had a hard time keeping up with a faster 500 split. It fluctuated for the the first 3K. And it wasn’t until I had 1500 to go that I got a decent and consistent pace. By then it was too late to beat my 26 minute guesstimate but I was going to try. I just wish I had felt this “comfort” zone prior to the last 1500. Time: 25:47; beat 26 minutes by seconds! Unstrapped my feet and rolled onto the ground. I was exhausted. At least I have a time to compete against for the future. Never having rowed like this I feel alright about it. Let’s hope the next test comes with a nice improvement!

be_better2

So this week has proven to be a beating so far. Not sure what the BOOM Box will bring tonight but I’m ready to tackle it. My shoulders are feeling much better which is GREAT. I started taking Nighttime Recovery from Advocare. Two nights in a row now. It’s hard to tell if it’s HELPING or if it’s mental. But I figure extra Amino Acids can’t hurt me so if it’s really working or just there for my brain to believe it’s working, then it’s good either way!

Also, the Get Fit, Stay Fit Challenges are up and they look like a butt whoopin too so I’m gonna try and do them but I am not making any promises! It’s day 1 of this Challenge and there’s a lot to start off with! Let me know if you are participating. It may make it easier for me to commit!

As always don’t forget there is a COMMUNITY WOD at the BOOM Box this Saturday at 9am. It’s FREE. So get your butt out there! You know the drill, Eat Clean, Do Work and BE AWESOME! Happy Thursday!

Better Than Yesterday

Progress no matter how slow or how minute is PROGRESS. Don’t forget that and don’t let up if you stray off course. If anyone has been the prime example of stumbling off the path it’s been me lately! So hone in on your goal the best you can. Choose your battles wisely and don’t let others influence your situation.

And know you can’t out train a bad diet! Believe me I try! What you put in your body is FUEL and if the fuel is JUNK then you’re not going to perform well. Maybe you say that’s not important to you but IT IS! You have to maintenance your vehicle regularly to keep it in tip top shape. If you’re putting in crap fuel, crap oil then your bound to have problems a lot sooner than if you use quality materials. Your BODY is so much more important than your vehicle! It carries you around FOR LIFE! And the maintenance fees are way more expensive the older you get. So if yesterday wasn’t pretty try and be better today!

BOOM Box Fun
Just recently Coach added a “pre warm-up” warm up to our mornings which is fine except that I roll in right at 5am. I finally got out of the door with enough time to do this pre warm up and feel so much better about myself. I felt pretty slackerish on Tuesday so I HAD to get out of bed just a little bit earlier. Just one more thing to add to my day but it’s worth it and if I want to get better then I know that’s what I have to do. Just tell my bed to let me go in the mornings, PLEASE! Heheh, it’s hard to get up so early all of the time. But it’s my only choice so that’s what I do.

10/25/12 WOD

Skill/Strength: Clean & Jerk work
After all our warming up, it was time to get some PVC time and practice our Clean & Jerk skills. Using the PVC bar is always so awkward but at the same time so helpful. It is so light weight and everything we do is over exaggerated. But going through those movements really helps translate to the bar. I never thought I would even use PVC to help me out in weightlifting. Hell I never thought I would say I’m doing WEIGHTLIFTING! But here I am and I’m loving it! I highly suggest picking up a barbell and lifting heavy shit.

MetCon: 10-1 of Burpees and Jumping Air Squats, Buy Out 30 KB Swings (1POOD)
That means you do 10 Burpees, 10 Jumping Air Squats, 9 Burpees, 9 Air Squats, 8 Burpees, and so forth. Doesn’t sound like a lot of work but I know it is and I promise you it is. I was torn on what I thought my time would be. Burpees take a lot out of me as much as I try to be efficient I end up sucking wind pretty bad. I do believe it was the Jumping Air Squats that did me in today. I say this because I don’t think I’ve ever done Jumping Air Squats in a CrossFit environment. Strange I know but I really can’t remember. Prior to CrossFit a squat was maybe getting to a 90° angle, knees and hips level. And when you got tired it was a half ass attempt. Well in CrossFit an Air Squat is breaking parallel.

You learn to get low. So going low and then JUMPING up from that is a butt whoopin! My hips were spent! At one point I wasn’t sure my legs were there to hold me up, fortunately they were! I almost forgot I had to do KB swings. I knocked out 15 and was ready to stop but I knew I had to do these unbroken. I really didn’t want to. I wanted to PUKE. But I wasn’t going to let that happen either. So I finished and laid down, rolled around on the floor a bit like a dying creature as well. Not pretty but I finished STRONG. Time: 7:17. Definitely feels good till I see the whiteboard later then I’ll regret every pause I took during the Air Squats :/ Hehehe. I know I’m hard on myself. It’s how I function.

Barbells For Boobs and #OccupyBoom
Two more days until our CrossFit Boom event for Barbells For Boobs! I know October is the “it” month for Breast Cancer Awareness but always remember that Cancer is around every month no matter where it hits and it hits all ages, races, genders, etc. If you are able to support me and my fundraising efforts I sure would appreciate it! I’m halfway to my goal of $100. I figure if I can get 25 people to donate $2, then I reach my goal! That’s less than your Starbucks coffee! That’s if you get Starbucks coffee. Or less than your Egg McMuffin this morning, ahahha. I hope you weren’t scarfing down one of those but it’s only $2. I welcome $1 from 50 people if that needs to be the case. B4B is a great cause and all donations go straight to them and in turn go straight to Mammograms in Action. You will be helping out uninsured and/or low income folks to get the screenings they need. Save a Pair, Save a Life. Donate HERE.

So at CrossFit Boom we are hosting the workout GRACE (30 Clean & Jerks for time). This is for fun and to raise awareness. If you’re not sure about CrossFit or want to know more, come on out and watch us. If you want to jump in and participate then you can participate. Everything can be scaled to your abilities. I’ve watched kids as young as 9 and people well into their 70s. It’s COMMUNITY coming together to throw around some weight and raise money for people in need! Oct 27th, 6pm, CrossFit Boom!

#OccupyBoom
After B4B we will be grillin some meats, so BYOB, bring your own BEEF, hehe, or chicken, or pork or whatever and we’ll have some folks cookin it up! After we fuel up we’ll have some friendly team competitions. Nothing INSANE I don’t think but I know there will lots of FUN! Come play with us!

It’s supposed to be a beautiful day in North Texas until the cold front comes in that is! So enjoy it cause tomorrow is supposed to be icky! And BE AWESOME while you are at it!

Welcoming the COOLDOWN

The weather has been freakin AMAZEBALLS down here in Texas. Ya it’s still probably a little warm to everyone else but when you get out of the 100’s and into low 90’s high 80’s you’d think it was winter! That means our mornings are in the 50’s and 60’s. You can’t ask for better!

Saturday WOD
As most of you know we had a Community WOD at the BOOM BOX on Saturday. It was a filled with all sorts of fun. We started out with a contest of counting the weight on the barbell. We had a couple of rounds since only 3 people competed against each other at a time. They would be turned away from the barbell and Coach would load up the bar, 3, 2, 1 LOOK and be the first one to write the correct answer on the board. If you got the weight right but were not first you had to do 5 burpees. If you got the weight wrong you had to do 20 burpees. We went head to head till we had one winner. I made it to the final round winning 2 heats! I got panicked and rushed and got it wrong and ended up penalized with 20 burpees… BoooHoooo!

We then proceeded with a TEAM WOD. We had teams of 3 and 3 stations: Weighted Overhead Lunges, Chest to Bar Pull Ups (no assistance allowed) and Wall Balls. Well shitfire, I can’t do CTB Pull Ups so we’re screwed or so I thought. Turns out we don’t have to do all the stations which is great for me, but it sucks for whoever can do CTB because they have to double up on CTB. And I have to bust out the other movements to make up for my loser-ness. We did 3 rounds of the 3 minute stations and counted total reps. My legs are still dead from Wall Balls but we came in 1st place with 385 reps! Woooo Go us (Nick, Trenton and me)! ツ

9/10/12 WOD
Like I said my legs were still dead from the Wall Balls although I’m sure the Lunges have some factor in the achy legs too. Again with the weather it was so nice to get through our warm up and not be drenched in sweat!

9/10/12 WOD

Skill/Strength: 3 Front Squats + 1 Push Press (15 minutes to get as heavy as possible)I know my MAX Push Press is 100lbs so that was at least my goal for the morning. We steadily worked our way up in weight and when I got to 85lbs I felt some tightness near my underarm in the Push Press, it was NOT comfortable but I still got the weight up overhead. I’m not sure if this is because my rotator cuffs are fried or what but when I jumped up to 95lbs I just wasn’t making the cut. I was ok with where I was at because I knew I had pain and I didn’t want to make it worse and at the end I just couldn’t get the weight up. Need MORE Mobility!

MetCon: 3 rounds of 3 GTOH @ 85lbs, 8 Pull Ups, 1min rest
I wasn’t sure about doing the GTOH with the quickness but I was convinced I could do so. It wasn’t so bad but I was so focused on my shoulders being dead that I wasn’t JERKING the bar efficiently. I got to the pull ups last and well we all know I’m slow at pull ups so that didn’t help me out either. I was all ready to get to the bar FAST and realized no one else was doing anything! I forgot about the 1 minute REST!!! It was nice to have the rest but I still struggled. By my last round of GTOH which I was Clean & Jerking by the way I failed on my 3rd attempt. I was like WTH?!?! Cleaned the bar focused and Jerked the Hell out it! Well that was EASY! Why didn’t I do that the whole time?!? Ha! I have no clue. Then I went on my merry way to struggle on pull ups! Time: 4:48 (NOT GOOD)

Enjoy your hopefully Beautiful MONDAY! It hasn’t been beat down drag ass like Mondays can be so it’s a good day! And remember BE AWESOME.

❤ THIS…CHECK IT OUT!  The SECRET SOCIETY OF AWESOME!

UUMMMMMMM……….

It’s not that I have writer’s block this time around, but it’s been a busy weekend and I don’t even know where to start. Do I start with today and go backwards or start with Saturday and move forwards? These are the silly little chores that burden me in regards to blogging! What’s my title going to be? Witty? Dull? Straightforward. ARRGGHHH! I’m not a great writer as it is and then to add the other things, it can make one go bonkers. But at the same time it gives me peace. A creative outlet of sorts to get my thoughts straightened out and something for me to reference in my CrossFit/Paleo/whatever you want to call it journey. Also hopefully I provide some sort of “FIT”spiration to you the readers; that if someone as plain and simple as myself can muster up the energy and discipline to work hard consistently and eat clean that you can too. You just have to want it bad enough. I know I do want it!

Which leads to me to today’s WOD. I’ll summarize the weekend afterwards ツ I was dragging more than normal this morning because we were at the Ranger game till later than expected and we left before the game got exciting! They went 13 innings. Thank goodness we left though because I was spent. So spent I almost didn’t get up in time for the BOOM BOX!

7/9/12 WOD

Skill/Strength: 3 x 5 Back Squat +5lbs from previous week. Well I didn’t do Back Squat last week so I added from the week before. Today was 3 sets of 5 at 110lbs. After working up to that weight I was already done! So I struggled on my last reps. I always feel so weak when I struggle so much at a lighter weight. I shouldn’t think that way. My max is 145 and that’s 1 REP…so ya I know but geez I still feel like a weakling!

MetCon: 21, 15, 9 of Overhead Squats (OHS) and Shoulder to Overhead (Push Press for me). The prescribed weight is 65lbs but with my weak ass OHS I went with 55lbs. And it’s weak I promise. My wrists are not made for the OHS at all. And my shoulder flexibility is worthless. I was not looking forward to this at all. And I can tell you that for me it was probably one of the worst MetCons that I have endured. We broke this down into two groups, thank goodness, so we could have a counter. Thank you Martha for counting. I wouldn’t have made it otherwise.

Not me of course, but a good example of OHS.

I don’t even remember how I broke up my OHS for the first round. I think I started off strong with a good number like 10 but then fell apart and knocked them out in 2’s. My wrists were fried and I still had PUSH PRESS to go. I struggled with the first 21 BAD! By the 15’s of the OHS I tried going in 5’s but that didn’t work out so well. I definitely felt better this round and Coach was there in my face so I had a little more to prove and push through. I did the 15 PUSH PRESS UNBROKEN!!!!

Again not me but I figure not everyone knows what all these movements are and pictures always help!

I felt like super woman because my wrists were just losing life and I just blazed through those 15. Only 9 of each to go and I just didn’t know if I could get those OHS completed. I wanted to cry. I knocked out 5, then 4 and saw I was at 9:40 on the time. I tried to get the bar up and move to make it under 10 minutes but I was 5 seconds too slow. Time: 10:05 I then laid (rolled around like a loonball) outside for a good 5 minutes, chugging water, hoping not to die. Although I struggled I felt accomplished. It was tough but it was a tough I needed. I always feel a little more badass when we do MetCons like this.

Weekend Wrap Up
Started off my Saturday morning at the BOOM BOX. Besides work this place gets a lot of my time! It was paint Kettle Bells day. The last time we did this was right before Easter and they were all cute and pastel but that got old fast! So this time we were doing Patriotic KBs, for the 4th and maybe even for the Olympics. I showed up mid painting, so I just stood around, watched and took pics.

Our Patriotic KBs ツ

Triston getting his paint on!

Josh showed up with some Spray Paint skills!

Travis and Kristen trying to find some other letters that we could could “make” look like b’s and o’s for BOOM!

Grant AKA Coach preppin the KBs.

Sherry getting the letters on before the painting begins.

Once everyone else started arriving we got to warming up. We had no idea what was in store for us but it ended up being a WOD I liked. 10 min AMRAP of Power Cleans (my fave)! For this AMRAP we partnered up and were told that we would do 5 cleans each and alternate for the 10 minutes. And then we were told that 5 cleans equaled 1 REP. I was partnered with another Stephanie AKA Briggs and we were set up to do 65lb Power Cleans. I said I love POWER CLEANS but I wasn’t sure if I’d love this AMRAP. My form got sloppy every now and then but for the most part I felt good. I have some bruises on my collar bone, chin and upper thighs. I look like I’ve been brawling. Thank goodness it’s only with a barbell! Briggs and I killed it with 33 reps which in turn ended up being 165 power cleans! And I still had the OLY class afterwards!!!!

OLY Class
We worked on Clean & Jerk and Front Squats after some much needed warm up on the PVC. For the Clean & Jerks we worked at 75% of our MAX. So I worked at 70lbs. We had to do 3 x 1 and take our time. Coach took some video of my first attempt and showed me where I could improve on form. I was already spent from the week’s work and from the power cleans but I took note and corrected. It helps to watch yourself and have someone show you EXACTLY where you went wrong. Most of the time I know something is off but I can’t pinpoint it.

After our Clean & Jerks we worked on getting a Heavy Front Squat. From there we would do 80% of the weight and do 3 x 3. I ended up at 125lbs for my heavy and did my sets of 3 at 100lbs. I was so glad when that last set was done. I was starving and ready to vegge out FOREVER!!! All in all good work put in and I feel stronger and better!

In other news:
We went and saw Savages which I thought was a good movie. I hate to say GREAT because then everyone will tell me how great it wasn’t. I liked it. I like those kinds of movies though. I was entertained! Got my pre-vacay pedicure and then I was out. I was passed out before 8pm! And I slept till 8am! That was a much needed sleep!

Not gonna lie, my eating wasn’t great the past two days. I’m on vacation brain. And it’s still not just crazy out of control but I know myself and I know I’m not sticking to what I know best lately. And that’s clean eating! Two Mondays in a row now that I’ve sabotaged my weekend!!!!! I know I will try to eat clean most of the time I’m out but I also know there are some things I won’t be able to pass up. We stay pretty active on vacation so besides maybe having some post eating ickiness I should be fine in the weight department, it’s just a horrible feeling that here I am trying to be the good example and I’m failing all of us :/

Also if you don’t watch baseball or keep up on sports you should check out the reaction to a GINORMOUS THUNDER/LIGHTNING crash that hit at the Rangers Ballpark last night. We were there and it was insane!

So that’s all folks. It was a busy weekend and I’m hoping this week flies by! Have a reMarkable Monday!

OMG it’s MONDAY again? Forever, Every 7 days? Seriously?

Yup as always Monday is here for your regularly scheduled programming.
I have no food reports for y’all just a bunch of BOOM BOX fun!

This past Saturday was probably by far the most random and fun Community WOD we’ve had. After a proper warm up we had some TIRE fun. There have been two tires propped up near the door of the BOOM BOX for a few months and we have yet to use them, until Saturday. They finally got broke in and so did we! We had some relays of flipping and rolling the nasty ass tires and boy did we get DIRTY!!! It was fun though. After our relay races we did a partner WOD. One person held a handstand (wall assisted) while the other person ran sprints. I’m not sure of yardage but it was close to 100 yds. So we had to run a total of 8 100yd sprints. Once the teammate holding handstand could no longer hold, runner had to stop and wait for handstand teammate to take their position in running. The runner then had to get into a handstand before the new runner could start! I figured I could hold a handstand forever but my teammate looked like was ready to stop running so I told her we could switch. I wish I hadn’t! Running sucked! It was already getting warm for the day and wow sprinting/running/jogging was no bueno! My partner had a hard time catching her breath in a handstand hold so she had me stop. I thought to myself is it really that bad? Answer: YES it’s really that bad trying to catch your breath upside down!!! WE ended up finish 2nd or 3rd out of about 7 teams. Not too bad! Way to go Andrea!!!

And we weren’t done yet! It was time for some good ol’ RED LIGHT GREEN LIGHT action but with LUNGES forward and backward. We only went 50 yds but it felt like forever! Keeping in line with elementary school playground games we moved on to SIMON SAYS. Our first SIMON was a little ridiculous with the movements and probably had NEVER played the game so he got over-ruled. We started off doing air squats, pushups, burpees, sprinting and that drew the line. So Coach took over. We moved onto more simple things like jumping jacks, coordination tests, etc. I didn’t last long cause I’m a bad student! It may not sound like we’ve done a lot but all those little movements really started adding up.

We finished off the Community WOD with some ULTIMATE MED BALL! I’ve played this once before and it was a BLAST! This second time around was still fun but stupid HOT. If you haven’t guessed ULTIMATE MED BALL is like ULTIMATE FRISBEE but with a 10lb medicine ball. Our team lost but we I still had lots of fun. I hope everyone else did too. We were a HOT GRIMEY MESS to top it off 🙂 Fun times.

Post Community WOD I had an OLY class to attend, still at the BOOM BOX just back inside. If you have the opportunity to sign up for an OLY class then do so. It really helps just to continuously going over proper mechanics, doing warm ups just for the OLY lifts, etc. Although 65lbs isn’t a HEAVY SNATCH. For me it was a PR cause I have this teeny tiny HUGE MONSTROUS fear of dropping under the weight. I know I can lift more but I freak out mentally.

Snatch

So a 10lb PR was good for me not only just for the PR but for the confidence BOOST! We also worked Clean & Jerk some and I managed a 5lb PR which was another boost. I was hoping for more but it all comes down to the DROPPING under the weight. It’s easier though to drop for a clean than it is for the SNATCH. Baby Steps indeed!

After Saturday’s fun, we vegged for the next two days which is fine. It’s super hot out, vacation is right around the corner and money needs to be saved!!! Which in fact I don’t know how to do very well… but I’m trying!

This morning was a short and mean WOD. I had already looked it up last night and knew it would/should be quick but how quick was the question. First off was MAX REP PUSH UPS in a minute times 3! We partnered up so we could have a counter which is great because even though it’s not ending up being a lot of reps it’s one less thing to think about. My first round I busted out 31 push ups. These are full blown chest touch the ground at the bottom and arms lock out at the top push ups. Not your knees on the ground, half ass drop halfway and try to pump out baby push ups. We got a rest as our partner had to do their round but it wasn’t enough rest! Sure enough my second round was 22 push ups. And my 3rd round was 19, maybe 20, I didn’t confirm and I lost count. My triceps died on me. It sucked!

But the suck wasn’t over, we had 3 rounds of 15 air squats, 12 burpees and 9 pullups for the MetCon. We all know this will be short and BRUTAL but again how short would it be. I was really disappointed in my time of 7:13 but not being able to do pull ups doesn’t help. It takes time to get your feet in the bands and by the time you’ve done that you want to rest before you even get your first pull up in. I did my first 9 in a good time (I think) but my 2nd and 3rd rounds of pull ups were horrid. We’ve already killed our upper body with approximately 70 pushups for time and now we’re killing ourselves with burpees and pull ups! It was good though. You never realize how hard those simple movements can be when you are doing them as fast as POSSIBLE!!!

All in all it was a good weekend, good day at the box this morning and I got in a good 20 minutes of post WOD mobility! You can never have too much mobility work! Check out http://www.mobilitywod.com/ for a plethora of videos in regards to mobility.

Have a less than Manic Monday. Enjoy your day. Hip Hip Hooray for a 4 day week even though my holiday falls on WEDNESDAY! SHEESH! Thanks 4th of July for falling on a Wednesday 🙂

Be AWESOME.
