My Muscles Are Crying!

28058982

Day 1 (again) of getting back to it and my muscles are hating me right about now. I was already feeling a little grumpy after cutting out sugar. Imagine that. Not even 1 full day in and I could feel the sugar monster. And I promise you the temptations were in full force all day with the offerings of cookies and snacks. But I steered clear, which lately has been hard to do. So I am feeling confident that if I can turn away the treats that my mind is in the right place! Too bad it’s taken me 30lbs of extra fluff to get back to the right head space. But alas I’m there.

For dinner I thought I was going to have Freebird’s for dinner but Ernie “accidentally” passed it and we headed straight to Piranah’s – YUM! We had sushi and sashimi with some rolls that had special (sugar laden I’m sure) sauces. But I didn’t eat my weight in the stuff so I felt fine. No extra joy or misery. Just some good fish! Other than that I managed very well on the food front. Even got some sweet potato cooked up to eat post workout. Along with some ham for that protein. I’m not a huge fan of protein shakes and the ones that are good are filled with a bunch of crap so I am going to try to just bring the foods I need to eat to each workout. I may end up with shakes in the end but for now real food post WOD is my goal.

7/1/13 WOD
I was pretty anxiety ridden headding back into the BOOM Box. Two weeks feels like an eternity when it comes to getting under the bar. I was scared of Back Squats! Well not scaarrreeeddd, but really nervous.

Warm Up: 30/30 GHD
I’m not a big fan of the GHD, makes me dizzy and nauseous. Bleh! Anyone else have this problem? I know it’s good for warming up and stretching out everything but it is not a favorite of mine.

7/1/13 WOD

7/1/13 WOD

Skill/Strength: Squat – 10@60%, 8@70%, 6@75%, 4@80%
Well, well, well. That ended up being 100lbs, 115lbs, 125lbs and 130lbs. Typically our rep schemes are 5, 3, 1 or 5, 5, 5 but this 10, 8, 6, 4 just seemed like a kazillion squats! And I’ve not been squatting or doing anything really so I know it’s going to suck! Just warming up my legs were questioning what the hell was going on. By the time I got into my first set of 10, my left IT band and left quad were seriously hating me. I had to decide was this stop working PAIN or just shock and awe PAIN. In the end the burn was more of a HEY YOU MORON what are you doing to me. I seriously wasn’t sure if I was going to make it through. Believe it or not the fight or flight switch kicked in and the FIGHT won. I really really did not want to jump to 130lbs. And really that’s not super heavy. My 1RM is 165lbs. But after 24 reps of building up to this 130lbs I was on the verge of quitting. Once I got under the bar I knew I couldn’t quit. Slow and steady I knocked out the last 4. I pushed through and although my legs would leave me if they could I’m still here and I finished.

MetCon: AMANDA – 9-7-5 of MU and Squat Snatch 135/75
Doh! My legs are already dead and I’m supposed to do Squat Snatches! OH lawdy! I quit CrossFit now! Hehehe. Ok I didn’t quit but those thoughts did go through my brain. I’ve never met Amanda and she was no fun. I know my legs are complaining from all the squatting but my forearms, my shoulders, my lats, my traps… you name it! It’s all sore. Added Bonus I sit at a desk all day everyday. The excruciating pain that comes when I get up or sit down is pure BLISS!

But Back to AMANDA! So if you know me at all, I’m not anywhere near getting a Muscle Up! Not close at all! So I had to resort to pull ups and by the way I don’t have pull ups either! So banded pull ups it is! The nice thing about pull ups this time around is that my hands and shoulders are really rested. So I was able to get through these much easier than I thought. Maybe that 2 week break helped out a little bit! After 9 Pull Ups it was on to 9 Squat Snatch. I was hesitant to even do the bar since it’s been a LONG time since I’ve done a Squat Snatch. At first it was really awkward but I got into a nice groove. I only went for 55lbs. Probably could have done 65lbs but 75lbs would have been the death of me. I feel like not KILLING myself was the best option. 55lbs was no easy task but I could string a few together so I was happy with that. Time: 6:40

So I survived my 798797th Day 1. Hopefully I don’t have any more Day 1’s and/or have far less of them. I know it’s not about being perfect and I know it’s not about being boring and banning all junk. Life is life and life happens, but I have really let my habits go wayward. And it’s a struggle to get back to good health all the time. Speaking of HEALTH. I ordered a basic blood panel aka E-CHECKUP with Wellness FX. They had a special not too long ago to get a free one done at the nearest LabCorp. So I took them up on their offer. I ended buying another one for a follow up. So $25 and I get two e-checkups. With this basic checkup 25+ biomarkers are measured including a basic lipid panel, complete blood count, glucose, and thyroid. I know I could just go to my Dr. or whatever but this seems so much more simple and I didn’t have to deal with insurance or getting billed later. Naturally I wait till the day it’s about to expire to get my blood drawn. Wellness FX says it takes 3-5 days to get the results which are uploaded to their website. Low and behold I went Friday for the blood draw and by Monday (yesterday) afternoon my results were in! Woooo. Overall everything was in the GREEN and not the RED except for my Triglycerides and Glucose. Those were in the ORANGE! So better than BAD but not GOOD. Granted I’ve been eating like shit so it makes sense. I’m hoping with all the cleaning up I’m doing that I’ll have everything in the green when I do a follow up in 3 months. Wellness FX offers a physician consult over the phone, but since I feel like I can clean up my negative areas pretty quickly I’ll probably pass on the consult. They also offer more extensive labwork but at prices I can not afford at the moment. Originally I was concerned my Thyroid was out of whack because I am so cold when the average person is melting. But the thyroid levels they checked were in the green. That’s not to say I don’t have other crazy thyroid issues but for now I’ll stick with GREEN is good. And my bank account can’t afford otherwise!

That’s it for this pleasant July day in Texas! We are actually experiencing a cool spell with temps in the 80’s! Last week 100’s while we are in a week long World Series but this week when we have nothing it’s “cool”! Geesh! I’ll take it though 🙂 Have a super day. Be AWESOME and start something new in your life. A new activity, exercising, eating clean, playing with your kids instead of just watching them play! Do something fun!

Breaking Point

images

I finally gained enough weight to have a breakdown and stop stuffing my face hole. I’ve been in a funk as of late and I’m been eating like crap. It’s amazing how much weigh I can gain in 2 months. I haven’t been on top of my BOOM Box attendance and overall I’ve been a slacker. Instead of diving into the deep end of the pool, I’m just making small changes right now. I figure in the past I’ve been SUPER great about jumping in, going 100%, balls to the wall and being successful. But it doesn’t take me long to jump into the JUNK FOOD JUNKY pool either. So I’m making the changes back to being good and Paleo in small increments. Hopefully I can work myself back into my better Paleo days and drop some of this extra fluff I’ve acquired. Once I can get that dialed back in, I’ll go back to looking into Eating to Perform. Enough about my poor poor petri moment and onto my Boom Box recaps.

5/1/13 WOD
Last week was the week for some longer workouts and they were a beating. Wednesday was no different. We didn’t even have a Skill/Strength. We went straight to the WOD after warming up.

300 REPS
1 min @ each
Burpees, Step Ups, Axel Thrusters (70lbs/50lbs), Push Ups, Wall Balls

5/1/13 WOD

5/1/13 WOD

Yikes. That’s a lot of reps. Go through each movement for a minute and keep going through until you’ve reached 300 reps! Whew! Prior to the clock starting I had guessed I could at least get 75 reps in the first round. And I actually made it through 83 reps. And round and round we went. Wall Balls were the worst for me and Step Ups were the easiest. My upper body has been dead from Mon and Tues workouts. So Thrusters and Push Ups weren’t a lovely sight. Although I love using the AXEL, I struggled. I was on my fourth round and so close to 300. The goal for me was to finish before wall balls! And I did. I got to 300 reps during the Push Ups, thank goodness! Time 18:41

5/2 and 5/3. Pretty much 5/2 was freezing cold and the workout was RUNNING. So basically I punked out. Friday presented a much more fun opportunity that involved baseball so that was lame-o act number 2. And I probably stuffed my face too with a bunch of junk! Oh wait there was no probably I DID stuff my face. UGH.

5/4 Community WOD
The BOOM Box has moved and we had our first WOD at the new place. It’s so much more spacious than our old box and nicer. So it was exciting. We did some fun things, like flip tires, wall balls, 3 legged runs, TABATA and just some post WOD hanging out.

newbox

There was a 300lb tire already living in the vicinity outside the box so we took the opportunity to work on proper technique to lift the tire. Low and behold we even got pics and video. Thank you Annette!

It was a fun time and I’m looking forward to calling this new spot home.

5/6/13 WOD

My initial goal was to make Mondays at 5 a.m. and mix it up during the rest of the week with 7 p.m. as well. Well I had some falling asleep issues Sunday night and stayed up way too late to be getting up at 4:30 a.m. What lied ahead was a doozy and I knew I wouldn’t have survived. So I went in the evening hoping I would make it through. The numbers on the board proved that I could finish within the time cap but I wasn’t sure if I actually would.

Skill/Strength: BackSquat 5, 5, 5+ @ 65%, 75% and 85% of our 1RM

It’s been a while since I squatted, or at least it feels that way so I wasn’t sure how I would hold up in the last set. Especially when 75% started feeling heavy. I get to my last set which is 140lbs and get through 3 feeling good. It was 4, 5 and beyond where I was still putting in the work but I just wasn’t sure how long I could go. I managed to get 7 reps. Went for my 8th but bottomed out. That’s the worst feeling! To just be stuck in the bottom of the squat.

050613wod

MetCon: 400m run, 30 HRPU, 50 Jumping Air Squats, 40 Toes To Bar, 50 JAS, 40 Walking Lunges, 50 JAS, 50 Sit Ups, 400m run

Welp, this was a beating in the making for sure. And all I was worried about was the run and those TTB! Before I got out of my car, I took a deep breath and I just said KILL THE TTB! As I knew it would be, the run was miserable. It’s better than the old box for sure without that hill, but I still am not friends with the running.  It took me longer than I had hoped on the Push Ups because I couldn’t catch my breath. So I went in short increments to get to the 30 although I feel I probably should have done them UNBROKEN. Went to the Jumping Air Squats and I had a goal to do 25 and 25. WRONG. I did 10s, and 5s till I got to 50. My legs were dead from the run I suppose. Now to my nemesis, TTB. Like I said before I walked into the box my mind was set to kill those things and that I did! One at a time mind you but I attacked the bar and went. Went through without having to NO REP myself.  That in itself is a small miracle. The next 100 JAS and lunges in the middle were killer on the quads. Thankfully the sit ups were a little bit of leg rest before the final run. I didn’t run the whole 400m which is not good but I just didn’t have any more run in me. I did however make it under the 25 minute cap and came in at 23:13!

And there you have it. Almost a week of recap. Tonight’s WOD doesn’t look pretty but I’ll have to go and make the most of it. Need y’all to rally behind me for some support to get back to clean eating and discipline. I know I’ve been saying it for weeks now but like I said, I had my moment. It happened in a Kohl’s dressing room to be more specific, trying on clothes. And it left me in a blah mood for the weekend, but I snapped out of it and know I have to get my shit together and focus. Other than that, I’m being my AWESOME self. Have a super duper Tuesday and go be AWESOME for you!

Hard to Focus

quotes-sayings-truth-life-love_large

Life is busy. My life is crazy busy. I’m having a hard time staying focused on everything! In the end we manage just fine, having a good time in our world of chaos so that’s a good thing but my blogging falls behind! Maybe it’s better for me to be a little less in your face, then you don’t get sick of me 😀

As I’m trying to recap in my head 5 seconds before I type I can’t even remember what happened on FRIDAY! Thank goodness I take pics of the whiteboard or I might forget all together. But let me first talk about my EATING to PEFORM! I did really good during the week. Had some tweaks to make but overall hit the marks I needed to hit. But it was a big ol’ fail for the weekend! I wouldn’t say I didn’t eat too much or not enough but I didn’t eat balanced and I didn’t eat clean so 1 week wasted! I know, it’s not WASTED completely but I’m not gonna lie, eating to perform is not an easy task for me. A lot of food to be taking in and forget about planning when you are gone the whole day.

"Bulletproof" style

“Bulletproof” style

As of yesterday I’m trying out my coffee “bulletproof” style. I say style because I didn’t buy the UPGRADED coffee beans and I’m not using the MCT oil. If you don’t know what bulletproof coffee is then please click HERE to read more. Pretty much this is supposed to make life much more awesome and help me get those fats in that are hard to consume! Coffee, Grass Fed Butter and MCT oil is the magic concoction and so far so good. I was feeling pretty bleh yesterday and I did half the suggested portions. So I was feeling a little less than excited. But today I feel much more amped on it and alert. I had two separate servings of 8oz of coffee with 1tbs of KerryGold Butter and Liquid Coconut Oil (93% MCTs). It’s a lil different but not too shabby in the end. Going keep this up and see if I notice anything grand in the next few weeks.

4/12/13 WOD
Friday’s WOD was an 18 minute AMRAP team WOD. Probably the longest 18 minutes ever! It consisted of PULL UPs and Med Ball Sit-ups! BLEH! After a few rounds, my triceps were strained and dying. By the end they had died and my forearms were on their own deathwalk! It was miserable. But my partner Kristina stuck with it and we got 9 rounds + 5 reps. Not too bad for the pair of us!

4/12/13 WOD

4/12/13 WOD

4/13/13 Community WOD
As most of you know I do enjoy the community WODS, sometimes there is new folks, sometimes out of towners and sometimes it’s just a handful of us regulars but they always seem to be fun. I don’t know that I can say this time was fun! Hehe.

Teams of 3
5 rounds of 1 minute KB Swings, 1 minutes Overhead Plate Shuttle Run, 1 minute rest. YAY FUN! NOT!

Our team had 4 so two of us did the same movement together. While each of the other people were on the other station. That 1 minute rest station was NICE. The shuttle run NOT NICE at all. We took total reps completed for the final score. The way we did the 2 person movement was to split the difference of our final rep count. So I think I got 180 and Tristan got 186 so we said we had 183 reps. I think that was pretty fair in the end. Overall our team came in 2nd with 472 reps.

Since that went by so quickly Coach had us do DEATH by AIR SQUATS! We have never done that before and by 10 minutes he figured that it would go on forever so at the 10 minute mark he made us double up. instead of 10 reps we had to do 20 and at the 11 minute mark we had to do 22 reps. Well that gets you much faster and I only made it through 24 reps. That’s 111 squats.

4/16/13 WOD
I took Monday off. 6 days in a row and 1 rest day wasn’t enough so I took 2 rest days and low and behold I come back to a burpee, run, pull up WOD. Are you freaking kidding me. I wish I had the energy to wake up on Monday morning then I might have slept in this morning! Ok probably not, my weaknesses are definitely running and pull ups!

Skill/Strength: 75 Hollow Rocks, 75 Superman Rocks
I’m so much better at the Superman Rocks. My joke is that my belly is what allows me to rock so well! And more than 10 Hollow Rocks pretty much sucks!

4/16/13 WOD

4/16/13 WOD

MetCon: 90 seconds Max Effort of Burpees, Red gate SPRINT, 10 Bar MUs (but for me 30 pullups)
The Burpess. UGH! I got 25 in the 90 seconds. I’m sure I could have squeezed a few more in but my mind was already dreading the run. The red gate and back is about 3/4 of a mile. It’s not an exact but definitely close to it. Good thing is I didn’t stop the whole time. Most runs I stop and walk at some point. Some if that’s the one positive I can pull then that’s what I’ll focus on! Still slow though :/ Got back to the bar and my lovely band assistants. Coach wanted me to do Kipping Pull Ups with Blue Band. Got 1 and it went downhill from there. So I moved up to Green Band and got 2. Woooo. Then I was getting nowhere. So I doubled up with the green and blue band and chipped away. Time: 18:09! Man those Pull Ups took forever!

After a few minutes of rest, Coach wanted me to do a handful of extra pull ups with just the green band. With a little rest and no pressure of the clock, I did 5 in a row. Woooo! The flip side is now I HAVE to use the green band only. No more double banding. It’s bittersweet. It’s progress but still bittersweet!

Hopefully tomorrow is a good CLEAN kind of workout and no more pull ups or running! Hehe, doubtful but hopeful all at the same time 🙂 Have a fantabulous Tuesday. And don’t be shy, go out there and be AWESOME!

Ambassadorship

I wish it was AM-BADASS-ORSHIP but it’s not, haha. Good news to share is that I was chosen to be a Girls Gone Sporty Ambassador. What does this mean and why is it cool or why should you care? Well I guess you don’t have to care at all but here is what it’s all about (from their website):

Girls Gone Sporty – Helping you “Live the Sporty Life!”What is the “sporty life”? It’s more than just fitness and nutrition; it’s an attitude that’s focused on embracing fun and adventure. The sporty woman says, “I can do anything I put my mind to, I just need the resources to do it.” That’s where Girls Gone Sporty comes in. Owned and operated by Laura Williams, a self-proclaimed “sporty girl” and her husband Lance Williams (an equally sporty guy), Girls Gone Sporty is dedicated to sharing the top products, trends and ideas for advancing the fit and adventurous lifestyle.

I applied because fellow blogger Jenn over at winetoweightlifting.com had become an Ambassador and shared what it was all about. After some research I really felt that I was in line with their ideas and thoughts so I applied. Hopefully I can meet even more ladies who blog and grow my little world of spreading health and fitness love. Thank you Girls Gone Sporty for choosing me!

Boom Box 11/6/12
Skill/Strength: 5 Negative Pull Up Hangs with 1 minute rest in between (Boooo, a necessary evil I know but I suck at all things pull up) and Front Rolls
As most of you know, I pretty much feel that I am not capable of doing pull ups. I’m sure I can but mentally I don’t feel that I will ever accomplish this goal. I know it’s in my head and I know I don’t put in the effort that I should but I’m still gonna complain! I felt that I did 3 out of the 5 attempts better than normal. So that must be a good thing RIGHT?!? After that torture we worked on Front Rolls. Believe it or not it hasn’t been since I was a little kid since I’ve done these. I used to go to a Boxing Gym and did workouts there. They’d have us roll around get up throw punches, roll more, throw more punches etc. to simulate getting worn down after a 3 minute round in the ring. It wasn’t so bad then and not so bad now. Just not used to rolling much these days.

11/6/12 WOD

MetCon: 30 seconds of each: HR Push Ups, 1 Front Roll, Burpee, Rest, Jumping Air Squat, 1 Front Roll, Burpees, Rest, Med Ball Situps, 1 Front Roll, Burpees
This was short and sweet. And with that said I was pretty sluggish. I just didn’t have any ounce in my bounce. We counted total reps for our score and I came in miserable with a count of 65.

We had some time left over and worked on skills and mobility that we felt we needed work on. So I chose to work on freestanding Handstands. I am capable but my hold time isn’t that great. After that Josh was working on jump rope skills and looked like he was going to attempt backwards double unders. So I thought I’d give it a go and whaddaya know I can string at least 2 together backwards! Hahah. Not a major feat I know, but it was fun trying.

Foods: Last night I finally got my head on straight in prepping some good foods for the week. Ernie snapped a pic for me. I know, I still need more greens! I have broccoli and kale in the fridge I just have to cook it! What you see in the pic below is grass fed roast, grass fed steak, mash cauli, cubed sweet potatoes, asparagus, acorn squash and spaghetti squash. That should be enough for 2 or 3 lunches.

Happy Election Day folks! There’s free food badness out there if you voted today and have your sticker to prove it, i.e. Taco Bell, Einstein Bros. Ben & Jerry’s ice cream! LOL don’t go there though. I resisted but just in case you’re up for an indulgence. Enjoy your Tuesday and remember to be AWESOME!

I was a-RUNNIN’

And it wasn’t Forrest Gump style! I knew we were going to run before the WOD even got posted last night. I had a gut feeling about it! So we all show up this morning. Full parking lot for 5 a.m. which surprised me and NO COACH! ??!!**$$%%#@# He’s always there but not this morning! So after a few minutes of sitting in our cars we collectively got out and started warming up in the parking lot because we are good little worker bees like that! Some of us knew the WOD already and since we couldn’t get inside to do Dead Lifts for Skill/Strength we did our running portion for the MetCon. And it sucked! Coach did show up FINALLY! Heheh all jokes GRANT. We still like you ツ and I can’t complain because I run 2-5 minutes late regularly! And for the record he has never let us down at 5 a.m. He is there faithfully for us crazy 5 o’clockers.

So the runs were 3 rounds of 100m sprint, rest 30 sec, 200m sprint, rest 60sec, 400m sprint, rest 90 sec! Really? 400m sprint after a 100 and 200. I don’t think so. It was more of a sprint, half sprint, jog and then holy shit I have to sprint uphill jog. In my head I was sprinting but my body was dragging. By my 3rd 200, I was winded and had a side stitch. But on my 3rd 400 Coach ran with me and I focused on not being a loser and ran it better than my first 2. It was sucky to say the least.

We ran out of time for Dead Lifts but we had the option to stick around for the 6 am class and work in with them. Of course I stuck around. I typically lounge around there for a while post WODs daily. The goal was 5 RM. I’ve scanned through my pics and posts but couldn’t find an attempt at 5RM for Dead Lift so I have nothing to compare to. My 1 RM is 185 so I think busting out 5 at 175lbs is good progress. My right butt cheek was done so I didn’t try to go for heavier weight.

Sneaky pic I was unaware of! I’m in the middle of the pic near the wall. You can’t tell it’s me if you don’t know me. I’m a ninja!

Outdoor WOD
“Susan” Run 200m 10 squats 10 push ups 5 rounds. That’s what Jonas and I decided on Friday afternoon to kill time at football practice. There is a small, very small track near the fields we are at and I had Jonas time me run one lap to see if it was close to 200m. It wasn’t exact but it was close enough. After running the first 200 I was done!! But I couldn’t be a quitter. So I finished in 10:01! Really Really Bad Timing. But I keep telling myself that’s my second workout of the day. So it’s icing on the cake. And it’s not a grueling endurance workout just a short quick one to mix up the day. I figure it’s better than stuffing my face and sitting on my ass. Right?

Tonight will be another outdoor WOD. I’m not sure what to do exactly. I did plenty of running this morning and my right hammy and glute are pretty tender. So most likely it will involve push ups or something like burpees. YAY fun. Tune in tomorrow to see what we decided.

12 days to Europa. Getting excited to compete. Clean eating definitely has brought my spirits back up and I’m feeling good again. I hope y’all have a great afternoon. See ya tomorrow ツ All together now: BE AWESOME!

WODDING at the Park, Fun Fun

Yesterday I said I may take a run or something on my rest day. Well that didn’t happen this morning because I SLEPT. I was tired. But what did happen is that two of my kids had football conditioning last night and me and my oldest kiddo decided to do some work. Go US!

Our First WOD was 3 rounds of 20 Box Jumps, Run 30yds, 10 Hand Release Push Ups, Run 30 yds back. We found a picnic table that we used for Box Jumps. The bench only came up to about my knee so our box jumps were probably around 18″. There was a tree that we are approximating was 30 yards from the table so we ran to that and did 10 HR Pushups, then run back to table. I was totally smoking Jonas for the first two rounds then hit a wall with my last round of box jumps. He freakin blazed through his last set and took off beating me by 13 seconds! Time 6:28

Our 2nd WOD was Invisible Fran. 21-15-9 Air Squats and Push Ups. We weren’t sure if they should be regular or hand release push ups but we went with hand release. My little terd WONDERFUL son definitely was in it to beat me again and that he did! I was blazing through squats but sucking at the pushups. And he was sucking through the squats but blazing through pushups. He fought hard and took me out by 8 seconds! ARGH! Gotta LOVE him for his fight though ツ Time: 2:37 (now if I could get my FRAN time to be that!!)

We were pretty much spent and big hot sweaty messes but we decided to tackle the Monkey Bars before we called it a day. If you’ve been reading you know me and bars in general don’t get along. I suck at pull ups, I suck at toes to bar and I was never the monkey bar queen growing up. Yesterday however I managed to get through them quite nicely. This was a plus in my book.

The bars we used for our race that I won!

Jonas was surprised at how much easier it was for me than him so he challenged me to a race! It was just who could go down and back in the best time. Let me be clear I didn’t not fly across with grace and ease I just did better than I thought I would. I managed to go down and back in 27 seconds. Poor Jonas struggled and it took him close to 40 seconds. FINALLY a WIN for MOM! He wanted to go more rounds but I didn’t want my hands to rip so we called it a day.

I think I definitely should add these body weight workouts to my evenings especially since we will be full on football starting in August. I am tired and I can feel the extra ache but nothing unbearable and maybe it’ll give me a boost. I don’t plan on doing them everynight but maybe 2-3 times a week. Only time will tell I suppose. I don’t think it will hurt.

Today is definitely a day of REST. I hope y’all have a WACKY WEDNESDAY. Let your inner child come out and play! Be AWESOME!
