Can’t Stop Now

It’s Day TEN of the Whole30. I am 1/3 of the way there and I’m still truckin’ along. And it’s a ROLLERCOASTER of emotions! Days TEN and ELEVEN are described as the ‘hardest days’. Yay for that, right? NO, not at all.

I’m really at a loss for words on how I feel. I don’t feel bad but I don’t feel super awesome at this moment. I’m doing the work, eating the foods but I’m just so blah. I’m definitely proud of myself for being strong for the past 10 days but I’m losing steam fast. I need a recharge. I have 20 days to go!

1/14/14 Lunch

My food is still tasty and yummy but again losing the excitement! I definitely don’t want to become humdrum when it comes to my meals. Since we decided to do the pork recipe again, I’ve been slacking on making the sides for Week 2 from Weeknight Paleo. Until last night, which I was interested in making because I would be using Parsnips and Turnips. Turns out I DO NOT LIKE either one. So not my flavor pallet and now I have 3 containers full of root veggies I am not happy with. Part of me says suck it up and EAT IT but last night was a struggle. I was so over it, I didn’t even take a picture. How do I make roasted turnips and parsnips into a winning meal? Maybe Ernie will eat them all 😀

Turnips! Bleh!

Turnips! Bleh!

Two Days of BOOM Box
1/14/14
50 heavy Russian swings
Coach left it up to us to pick our own version of HEAVY. But we all know we need to still pick up his version of heavy! 1 1/2 POOD. I was very low energy last night and was not having much fun with these KB swings. I did 20 right off the bat and then broke it up.

Midline: Max Plank Hold (Everyone must accumulate at least 5 minutes)
Ugh. Planks are a pain in the arse. I held for 1 1/2 minutes before dropping and pretty much held the rest of the 5 minutes owed in increments of 30 seconds to 45 seconds. I’m not good with long holds of any kind.

1/14/14 WOD

1/14/14 WOD

MetCon: 800m run, 21-15-9 of Ring Dips and Strict Pull Ups,  200m sprint!
Oh for the love. You all know I despise running. It’s the worst. But GUESS WHAT? I trotted the whole 800m without walking or stopping!!! I ran it UNBROKEN. I haven’t done that in over a year! Mostly cause I’m a big baby, but also cause I’m just a little fatty who eats like shit! But now, with 9 days of Whole30 under my belt, I’m just a trottin’ away. I even got a little faster on my second lap! But my calves were smoked. Instead of RING DIPS, I was tasked with incline pushups on a bar set on the pull up rig. At first I was a little slow. Not sure my wrist would hold up but once I got comfortable I moved a little quicker. Pull Ups were super slow and took forever! I never thought I’d finish the 21, and that’s with BANDS! If it weren’t for me sucking at Pull Ups so bad I would have had a much better time. When it was time for the 200m SPRINT, it was more like a jog, walk, trot, walk, trot to the finish. Time: 24:32. Boy I’m slow!

1/15/14
I was really debating on showing up at 5 a.m. I laid in bed and had an internal conversation/argument with myself. My body is tired. My brain is awake. It’s cold outside. I could use another 1 1/2 hours of sleep. GET UP. GET MOVING. JUST GO. I should have played THE GRIND. I’ve shared this before but it’s just so darn good. Here it is again:

So I went and the parking lot is EMPTY. Where are my 5 a.m. peeps? Hellooo? So it’s just me and Coach T.

Midline: 30 evil wheels
Now that I have more faith in my wrist, I can roll out a little further. Not so evil today!

Strength: DL 4×3 Heavy but make it look good.
I worked my way up to 185lbs for my HEAVY. This shouldn’t be heavy to me because my 1RM is 235lbs. But today it was heavy. I was telling coach, that it’s not that I don’t think I can go heavier, but my HANDS hurt so bad. Just holding onto the bar with 150lbs hurts my sad old hands. Anyhow 4 sets of 3 at 185lbs was just fine for this morning.

1/15/14 WOD

1/15/14 WOD

MetCon: 4 min elimination (like 13.5) 3 rounds 30 Air Squats 10 Burpees If you don’t make the first cap you owe your coach 400m run on the spot. Go for as long as you can! DU Practice if time remains.
I knew coming in this would be deceiving. It’s easy movements but it won’t be an easy workout. I just didn’t want to run, at all. And it’s cold outside. 3-2-1 GO! Bam I did the first round in 1:07. I thought I could get get under a minute but on my 7th burpee I slowed down. Not good. Got up for the second round and the Air Squats felt like I was in QUICKSAND, no wait, CEMENT! I couldn’t just GO. I was struggling. I slowed down too much. As for Burpees, forget about it. Those were so bad. Time was ticking. I go for Round 3, look at the clock and was like, crap I have to run. I managed to get in 20 Air Squats before the 4 minutes was up and off I went. Boooo! Final: 2 rounds + 20 squats. That was a poor showing indeed.

That’s a Wrap!
Still excited it’s Day TEN and I’m going strong. Emotionally I may not be feeling it but I’ll get there. Soon Enough! In other news, I have a giveaway coming up soon! Paleo Parents is releasing a new book called 3Phase Paleo.

Cover-3-Phase-Paleo-by-Paleo-Parents1-571x740

I am in the middle of reading it myself, but when I’m done, I’ll be reviewing it here on my good ol’ blog and I’ll hosting a giveaway to one of you!

It’s Hump Day! Make it a good one!

Cindy Cindy Bo Bindy

index

Banana Fana Fo Findy, Fe Fi Mo Mindy, Ciiiindy! It’s official, I have certified myself into dorkiness forever. But that was seriously in my head this morning. And guess why? CINDY! I love to hate this workout and hate to enjoy it. Let’s be clear there is no REAL LOVE for this dirty girl.

Test day: Cindy 20 min AMRAP of 5 Pull-ups mod:ring rows, 10 Push Ups, 15 Air Squats; Rest 7 minutes then 3 min max MU or plank hold as long as possible for non muscle uppers!

So in the past I have done OK and I have done CRAPPY. Today was the best though really modified. I had a green band and a small blue band. NOT GOOD! But I was able to stay consistent, still get work done and not hang on the bar for FOREVER. Push Ups were strong for a bit. My palm/wrist started plaguing me so I went to KNEE PUSH UPS! I haven’t resorted to those in a very very long time. But I wasn’t going to risk hurting my wrist more. And then Air Squats. This is a movement where some rounds I just breezed right through and some rounds felt like I would never finish. They are easy but I sure do like to stand around a lot when we do them 😀 And for the first time, when it comes to Pull Ups at least, instead of letting the clock run down when there’s like 15 seconds to go, I actually got back up there and put 3 additional Pull Ups on the board. Who is this girl? Final: 13 rounds + 3 Pull Ups.

10/11/13 WOD

10/11/13 WOD

After we tried killing ourselves in 20 minutes we got a 7 minute break. Then it was a 3 minute Muscle Up show. So you all should know by now I’m not cool enough to have a MU so a nice plank hold was waiting for me. My shoulders are kaput so it was hard to even hold a minute but I did, then I dropped, then I got back up. I had a total of 2 minutes combined. But my longest hold was the first minute. I. NEED. NEW. SHOULDERS.

Barbells For Boobs
Yippeee! I’ve exceeded my goal and I thank you all who have donated! THANK YOU! I’m at $250, so I’m asking to help me to get to $320. For every $80, one mammogram is proved to someone in need. I have 3 mammograms covered so let’s try and get 4 provided. BOOMS FOR BOOBS is tomorrow at 9 a.m. We’ll be doing GRACE, 30 Clean and Jerks for time. I will be working out in support, in honor and in memory of people that are battling or have battled breast cancer. Thanks in advance for your support and thank you again to those of you that have donated. Donate here to HELP SAVE BOOBIES!

It’s the WEEKEND!
Can I get an ANTI-RAIN dance? WE have more baseball and we’d really like to just play some ball. The rain ruins such things. I know we need it but can it come on Monday, please! And as I just mentioned B4B happens tomorrow! I’m excited and you should be too! Other than that, I hope you all have a beautiful weekend and just be AWESOME!

CORE CRAZINESS

This morning I stepped out of SLACKERVILLE for a bit to hit up the BOOM Box. And boy oh boy did it feel good. You don’t really understand what missing one day does to you. I’m clearly a junkie to the “feel good” of a workout and feel like I lack in productivity when I don’t get work in. But at the same time that extra day of rest is NICE when it comes to feeling fresh to take on weight.

Skill/Strength: 3 x 5 Floor Press. 3 rep Max, Banded Tricep Push Downs.
Last week or whenever, we did 4 x 5 and I worked my way up to 80lbs. I didn’t fully do all 5 reps as I had some assistance. But today we were doing one less set and I was feeling good. I warmed up to 65lbs then jumped to 75lbs for my first set. Did my last set at 85lbs and no assistance… now that feels good!

We used a band instead of rope but you get the idea!

After that we did Tricep Push Downs using bands. I’ve done this exercise on machines at a regular gym but never with just a band and at first it felt really awkward but by the last set even though my triceps were dying I felt more comfortable. I don’t think I did too great, I believe I got 17, 10 and 12 for my reps. It really wears you out fast.

10/19/12 WOD

Met/Con: 3 rounds of 50 seconds on 10 seconds rest of: Elbow plank to full plank, Med Ball Sit Ups, Med Ball Twists and Superman Rocks. If this doesn’t kill your core then you are superhuman and I admire you and your ABS probably look like chiseled stone. I’m sure mine do too under the layers of flab that I’ve got going on. But this CRUSHED my core and I’m sure I’ll be trying to figure how I roll out of bed in the morning. I went through the first round feeling pretty good, but that 2nd round of plank was not easy. I tried my hardest to hit the same reps as my first round. I didn’t do too bad with trying to keep pace but I did fall a few reps short on rounds 2 and 3. Total Reps: 280

BARBELLS FOR BOOBS
YES I’m still talking about it. I will till Oct. 27th and then again maybe on Oct 29th when I blog about my weekend! I’m still not close to my $100 goal, so would you do me the kindness and donate a few bucks? Any amount is welcomed and appreciated. Donate HERE! Please and Thank you!

Last year I participated at one of the PINK BRA TOUR locations down in Belton, TX. This is where I first learned the AWESOMENESS of the CrossFit Community! All ages and sizes, working out and raising money to support Mammograms in Action. I met all sorts of people, had complete strangers cheering me on to get through GRACE (30 Clean & Jerks for time), and in turn I was supporting newly diagnosed women and cheering on SURVIVORS.

Last year’s group that traveled to participate in Barbells For Boobs!

This year the BOOM Box, CrossFit Boom, the box that gets me through the week is hosting it’s own event on Oct. 27th @ 6pm. We’ll be doing GRACE locally and everyone is welcome. You can spectate or participate. Bring your friends and family. Also know that right after B4B we will be having food and another event: #OCCUPY BOOM

The plan will be to pair off into teams of 2 and commence with #OCCUPY BOOM. Based on your Grace time your team will be seeded in a bracket. From there will will “OCCUPY BOOM” until the tournament of champions is completed. Now don’t worry the workouts will be drawn out of a hat. From there you will have a chance to negotiate with your opponents what types of scales would be fair. For example If team 1 couldn’t do pull-ups and team 2 could, they would choose a suitable replacement for team 1. Basically all you need to know is that it will be fair no matter what skill level. We will remain at the box until a team is victorious.

All in all next weekend should be a FUN time. Mark your calendars and come on out! As for this weekend all I got is football and a birthday party. I hope you all have a SUPER weekend. Enjoy this fall weather. And don’t you know it… BE AWESOME!
