The Running NEVER Ends!

WOD
We are on a running mode at the BOOM BOX which is great for me because I dislike it so much. Maybe I’ll learn to love it! I highly doubt such things but it only helps me out, makes me better, etc. RIGHT?!? I sure as heckola hope so!

Let me first get to the Skill/Strength of my morning at the CFB. It was Back Squats with more percentage math today. 5, 5, 5+. The weight seemed fairly light at first but don’t let it fool you. It’s catches up to you quicklike. After a few warm up rounds and building up to the weight I was slated to do 100, 105 and 110. I managed to get 8 full reps on my last 5+ which is GREAT for me. Me and the back squat don’t always turn out so well. However this morning I got past that 5th rep and carried on. It was a good feeling. Baby steps and I’ll take them 🙂

5/8/12 WOD

The MetCon was 3 rounds of 400m run, 25 Hand Release Push UPs and 50 Double Unders. My first 400 was smooth and felt good and my first 25 push ups SUCKED! I was dragging, my chest, arms, everything was burning. I struggled big time. Once I got those knocked out it was onto DU’s which I figured I had and I was WRONG! I couldn’t find a rhythm! I was pissed! I finally got 50 completed and took off for the next run. That 400 was the worst 400 in the history of time. But in that 400 I got my whiny attitude out of the way and got a little better for the last two rounds. My Double Unders came back to me and I felt mentally I redeemed myself. I still sucked at the push ups, just not as bad as the firsts round! Time: 16:07

Day 8 Sugar Detox
Even though I still really really want fruit I have finally gotten in the groove of this detox. I’m totally killing it and I’m proud of myself for doing such. Going Paleo in general wasn’t such an easy transition either but you set your limits and that’s all there is to it. Now with Paleo, we haven’t ever been 100% full on Paleo (80-90%) but we really work to put the best foods we can into our bodies and avoid all NO-NO’s in regards to the Paleo standards. We have our goodies every now and then but they are a rare appearance. With that said eliminating fruit has been HUGE for me. It’s natural and good for you but in the same turn it’s kept me hooked on wanting sweet stuff. Hence me doing this detox. And now at Day 8, although my brain still tells me I want the dang fruit and a little bit of pasture half and half with my coffee I know my limits are set and I just can’t go past them. THANK GOODNESS for MINT TEA! I might die without you!

It’s totally feasible to do, just a little extra work but nothing major. I’ve been boring with the meals but that’s ok as long as I’m hitting the mark. Great time to do a detox when you’re week is filled with super busy! Hahaha. But it’s doable even when you are super busy and on the go. Added bonus I drink more water which is never a bad thing! And I just keep on keepin on!

Have a FABULOUS TUESDAY! Be awesome in every way you can.

Become Addicted To BEING AWESOME!

Yes that is my GOAL… I NEED to be addicted to being awesome. Right now my addictions are WANTING bad foods. It doesn’t mean I always eat bad foods, but I WANT them so to make up for it I find Paleo-ish sweeties and it’s not helping me. I told Coach I was doing the 21-Day Sugar Detox and he about looked at me like I had 3 heads. He asked/stated “Shouldn’t you already pretty much have cut out sugar?” And I say well ya but I still bake with the now KNOWN LIQUID DEATH NECTAR – AGAVE! And Ernie thinks I eat too much fruit. And I’ve been having too many “cheat bites”.  I also let everyone become aware of what a damn headcase I am. I’m pretty sure they already know it or assumed it but now they KNOW for certain. SOOOO I will do the detox, see if my cravings for the bad stuff goes away. We shall see. So back to the point (maybe?) Coach tells me I should just be addicted to being awesome! Hahahha! That was good and then I thought SURE why not? I will become addicted to AWESOMENESS and not just plain ol awesome but BEING AWESOME!

Now onto talking about how AWESOME I am at slacking! Jokes. Sort of. I didn’t blog yesterday because I took the day off. Not from the BOOM BOX but from work, cleaning house, cooking, blogging, etc. It felt good. The kids noted that I seemed to be in a great mood! And I was indeed. I could totally do this whole stay at home mom gig. Of course I would be more productive than I was yesterday but it was good to be able to help the kids get ready without us going nutso! But I digress. I’m supposed to be recapping my WOD for yesterday and today and not going on about how I need to be a stay at home mom!

I definitely will NEED these to go towards my addiction!

Yesterday involved running…wooooo running. You all know how I feel about this running thing. It was a combo of 400m, 50 diamond situps, 400m, 50 diamond situps and 400m. For time. I got it in right at 10 minutes. Not bad. Unfortunately for me the whole time I ran I kept thinking “How do people actually ENJOY this?” That’s bad right. I have no joy in running. And bittersweet is that my oldest son Jonas is catching me! He finished the same workout later in the day at 10:04! Oh to be young! I have to step up my game.

4/26/12 WOD

Our skill/strength was MAX Double Unders. Well I know my max is 49 consecutive but I only managed to get to 41. SIGH. It is what it is and I seem to be stuck at this lame-o area under 50 DUs :/

4/27/12 WOD ... don't you love the dirty whiteboard. It's more of a GRAYboard!

This morning was 1 RM for Back Squat, which I so happened to PR last week. This week though I stayed at that weight of 145lbs. I tried 150 but I wasn’t getting that weight up today. Another day and hopefully more than a 5lb PR!

The MetCon was DIANE! OH DIANE! Diane consists of Dead Lifts and HSPUs (Handstand Push Ups) for 21, 15, 9. For y’all new to CrossFit or unaware of CrossFit that means do 21 dead lifts, 21 hspus, 15 dead lifts, 15 hspus, 9 dead lifts and 9 hspus. YAY FUN! Right?!? Hello? Who’s with me here?

I didn’t do RX’d due to the fact we were short on time so the goal was to finish in 7 minutes. My weight was lighter than the RXd 155lbs but I can’t remember for the life of me what weight I did. And for the HSPUs I had a 45lb plate with an abmat on it. I tried with the 35lb plate first and managed to get a few in but Coach said use the 45lb plate which was greatness because my shoulders burned out FAST!

So there you have it to end this week! Baseball filled Saturday. Ernie is at the CrossFit Games Regionals in San Antonio. Hopefully I get good reports, pics, stories etc. Have a fun filled weekend! Find your AWESOMENESS and get addicted!

TGIF For Real! It’s been a LONG WEEK!

Finally made it to Friday! I wasn’t sure that I would but alas it is here. I totally lied about not making dinner last night. I had to drop some stuff off at a friends house and they don’t live far from Whole Foods. I got to swing by and pick up some fresh beef and bacon before I headed home. Yay for me!

But first let me talk about today’s WOD. I really had a hard time getting up this morning. I typically wake up on my short drive but this morning was HARD. I was dragging bad! We dedicated some time to practicing Muscle Ups. I know I shouldn’t say I won’t ever get them but dang it FEELS like I will never get to that point. It seems like it should be so easy. And they look like fun. I just don’t have it. That’s all there is to be said. It’s definitely a goal though. How will I ever compete in a top level event without MUs? 😦

1/27/11 WOD

Our MetCon changed a little from the picture… well it changed alot! Ha! We did do the Plyo Push Ups but we did V-UP situps instead of flutter kicks and we did Snatch Balance instead of KNEE JUMPS. Why I can’t do Knee Jumps is beyond me. It doesn’t LOOK hard but I could not get my big butt up. My kids however make it look easy! Dang kids. Anyways the MetCon was a 15 min AMRAP (as many rounds as possible). I managed to complete 10 rounds and get 4 push ups into the 11th round. Not bad I suppose. That’s 124 pushups people! My upper body is DEAD!

Once I caught my breath post WOD and post mobility right before I walk out the door I decide to bust out my jump rope. We are having a Double Under Challenge in March. Who can do 100 consecutive DUs and if more than 1 person achieves them then who can do more! Hahah, I’m in it to win it folks. So like I said, I bust out my rope and just GO. I got on roll and then got excited then let my brain get in the way but I got 49 in a row. WOOOOO! I’m so excited! That may not be a lot for some but for me that was big jump. And that made my Friday 🙂

Moving on to dinner last night: I didn’t buy anything fancy or make this amazing culinary delight but it was tasty and did it’s job. I’ve been buying sirloin tip steak – it’s not the “best” cut but it’s grass-fed and it’s not as spendy as the other quality cuts. I know I should marinate it for several hours if not overnight but I’m crunched for time so we make due. I sliced it up as thin as I could with the tools that I have and threw it in a gallon zip lock bag. I tossed in some olive oil, garlic powder, cumin, salt and pepper. I had sliced up one steak and put my oldest to shaking the bag and pretty much massaging the steak while I cut up the other piece. I had him do this for a good 15 minutes. I think it really helped the meat tenderize a bit. I threw it in a pan, sauteed for a couple of minutes and only a couple because I did not want it overcooked. It turned out pretty alright.

Not a BEAUTIFUL pic but HEY at least I remembered to take one!

I had purchased parsnips over the weekend with intentions of mixing them up with cauliflower but I never got around to that. I’ve never eaten a parsnip so I had no clue what to expect. I peeled them and chopped them up. Boiled them in chicken broth with onions and garlic till they were tender. Drained them but kept the broth for later. Threw parnsips, garlic and onion in the food processor and let it get all blended up. I added about 3 TBS of butter, 1/4 cup of reserved broth, salt and pepper. Ended up with a nice consistency more mash potato like than Cauliflower. Parsnips are sweeter than I expected but also have a spice to them. I couldn’t decide on the best word to describe it. It’s just a weird little bite. Still good and different than everything else. I’ll have to experiment more with them. But you should definitely try out some parsnips. 🙂

Have a FIERCE FRIDAY! Make it worthwhile. SMILE! See y’all on Monday 😀

It’s a “I SHOULD HAVE STAYED HOME” Kinda Day

That’s right. I would have been better off at home, taking a nap, cleaning house, catching up on dvr or reading a book. But I did not. I’m a little late in the day for posting but I kept on trucking and hopefully it’s just a glitch on the radar and the rest of the week will be fine! Pray! Keep your fingers crossed! And Pray some more!

01/24/12 WOD

The day started off alright. I got up like always and headed to the BOOM! Box. It sure is great to get the blood pumping and the muscles working hard. Today was no exception. I did feel weak on my Clean and Jerks but I managed to push through. I think my whole self was still spent from yesterday’s WOD.

Next up: Double Unders! Ya. I actually like double unders but I was not looking forward to the Hand Release Push Ups that were penalty when you mess up! I can string around 30 DUs sometimes and mostly just 10-15 regularly. So I knew I was in for a beating. And of course the more beat I became the more frustrating DUs became and I turned into a HOT MESS! I even got to 199 and messed up. Really? I was officially just exhausted! And I had to pump out 5 more HR Push Ups! Argh! Finally I get a finish of 12:02! Yeehaw. I didn’t keep count of pushups because I couldn’t get keep count of both DUs and push ups but I feel I did anywhere between 70 and 100, LOL!

Nothing new on the food front. Or nothing exciting I should say. I messed around with some bacon and spinach, seeing how that would turn out and it came out fine. I failed to take pics of course due to the fact I was in a hurry but I do have some sweets on the horizon that are Paleo-ish. The plan is to make some goodies for the boys’ classmates for Valentine’s Day and I figure along the lines of Paleo is better than flat out badness. I also have a few recipes that have kept my attention. Now it’s all a matter of taking the time to make them 🙂 Baby steps. I will get there!

That’s it for Tuesday! Still anxiously awaiting for Ford Escape Routes to call Ernie and I up and tell us we are on the show! Boy that would be great. I know we would kill it if we don’t kill each other first! Hahaha! Hoping again the week gets better for sure. Have a good one y’all!
