Sometimes Slow and Steady does WIN the race! Barely!

Today’s Boom Box Special was a chipperish Cindy-like WOD on ROIDS! This was Cindy’s EVIL Sister. Pull ups, Push ups and Air Squats – YAY fun! And to spice it up a bit it started with a 400m run and then had 400m run every 5 minutes!!! Come on now, RUNNING in the middle of already dying?!? Coach HATES us! I’m super convinced now 😀 He did give us a break by it only being this beast like chipper and we did get to work on mobility as well which was much needed because I’ve been slacking.

6/28/12 WOD

First off the 400m run just for oh you know the hell of it. Don’t worry at minute 5 there will be another fun run, and minute 10, minute 15, etc. We had a 30 minute cap, will I finish?!?

I knew 50 pullups were going to be a doozy so I went with the green and blue band because I knew trying to go with green only would keep me on that bar for the entire class. I could do a few more at a time with the double banding but they were still a beating. I did 3 runs just during Pull Ups and they were ugly runs.

Moving onto Push Ups was plain ol’ miserable and did not help in the shoulder dept, duh! My shoulders are dead. The next run was incredibly ridiculous. I tried my hardest to keep my arms to my side and run looking like a weirdo because my shoulders were burning.

I wanted to walk so bad on that run but I didn’t. Got back, finished push ups and got 17 air squats before my 5th run. Thank goodness shoulders are no longer needed. If it weren’t for coach pushing me on I don’t think I would have finished my Air Squats before the next 5 minute mark. I knew I couldn’t run now because my quads were on FIRE!!! But he really stood by me and helped me fight through and that is just what I did. FIGHT! Time: 24:45! BAM!

Stephanie doesn’t hate Push Ups but struggled!

I was the last one to finish pull ups and the last one on all the runs but I managed to kill push ups and air squats to beat the boys!!! HELL YA!!!! And just so you know… below is what I look like after 90% of all our WODs… Sometimes I manage to find a wall to hold me up!

Hang Cleans YOU DECEIVE me!

WOW Hang Cleans really suck! I haven’t ever had to do them and they got to me. They got in my head, they hurt my body and I let them take over and ruin me this morning! That paired with Toes To Bar (Knees to Elbow for me) and Hand Release Push Ups!.

After our regular warm up we did OLY lift warmups to get us all primed for these hang cleans. Now I’m a big fan of Power Cleans so I thought HEY I GOT THIS! We proceeded to work the pvc, work the bar, and work the cleans. I felt pretty good. A little awkward not coming from the ground but nothing to worry about or so I thought. Let me be clear, I now know I AM NOT A FAN of HANG CLEANS!

5/15/12 WOD

The MetCon was 3 rounds of 8 Hang Cleans (75lbs), 10 TTB, 12 HR Push Ups. Now I’ve been struggling more with the TTB for some reason, so instead of struggling all morning with those I did Knees To Elbows. Well I knocked out 3 maybe 4 Hang Cleans then I just lost confidence. I didn’t feel like my forearms were working for me, my grip went to out the door and I struggled. I knocked out my first 8 and I was WHOOPED! KTE were slow and wussy. Push Ups were fine but I was still beat from the measly 18 reps of cleans and KTE. Ugh I was pissed. Back to the BAR for Hang Cleans and I was getting 2 at a time sometimes 1 at a time. Mentally I struggled. Physically I would hold it on my knees because I just would think I couldn’t get the damn weight up. That was a lot of my problem. The weight wasn’t too much of an issue. It’s that short distance maybe that got to me. I don’t have the power there… well I do have it, I just don’t know how to harness it each rep! It will come with time, I know. I also have to not OVERTHINK everything (yes I still let that thinking get in the way). And maybe, just maybe the next time my grip and forearms won’t get wasted in the first minute of the workout! 😦 Time: 13:52

Day 15 Sugar Detox
Back on track like I said I would be. I didn’t have any issues yesterday so I’m glad to report that. I really thought the bites of yummy goodness I had would ruin me. Just been stick with the basics, lean proteins, veggies, water and herbal teas. They’re keeping me on the up and up. I do feel like my stomach feels less bloaty. Kind of like when you give up grains. All that “fullness” goes away. For me it’s not going to be bikini wearing results unless someone wants to donate to some plastic surgery. I was not blessed with good skin in regards to having babies. I do feel lighter in general so I’m hoping I lost a few pounds. I don’t have a number per say that I would like to hit but a few pounds down isn’t going to hurt me. I’m in a good range, I just feel like I’m on the high end of it. I made a deal with the kiddos to extend the detox a few days since I did indulge. So I hope to push through to the weekend. My journey will end May 25th, at least that’s the plan for now 🙂

Gettin Stronger….Finally Feeling It!

I feel a PR coming on! Even though my legs are dead from yesterday (argh Karen!), when we worked on DeadLifts today for a 5, 3, 1+ with our crazy math I felt really good with the weights. 145lbs, 165lbs and 185lbs – My 1+ ended up to be my 1RM (one rep max). I busted out a whopping 6 reps! Holy Snikes I’ve gotten stronger! You read me complain day in and day out about me having the weaksauce but today there was no complaining (well not at the beginning). I was feeling strong FINALLY. Don’t get me wrong I do feel stronger than I ever have before in my life but I always feel like I’m not making progress like I should or that I sucked at a WOD and could have done better. Today was sheer happiness! Can’t wait to see what my new 1RM will be!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now the MetCon involved pistols and although they are not near as dreadful as wall balls, I still suck at them. I do feel like I did a little better on my right leg. My left IT band still gives me grief so I wasn’t as strong on that side. So we had a 2 part MetCon. First part was a 3 min AMRAP of 6 pushups and 3 burpees. Two movements I don’t mind doing but golly gee whiz, I’m so sick of burpees! Three minutes isn’t very long so you really gotta push yourself. I managed to almost get 6 full rounds in but I failed short by 1 burpee! I think I was just too sleepy to really kill those 3 minutes. We got a 3 minute rest and then it was 3 minutes of 6 pistols (3 per leg) and 3 burpees. I was much slower at this because I am no good at the pistols. I managed to get 3 rounds + 2 pistols 😦 wah wah!

My legs are really dead now. I know I’ll survive and I just gotta keep up on the mobility.

I finally made more brownies. Well brownies and supposed Blondie type brownies. The Blondies weren’t as “blonde” as I imagined but they were still good. Although myself and the kiddos prefer the actual chocolatey brownie goodness! You can’t tell they are gluten free, dairy free, grain free, etc.! LOVE IT!

Hope your Tuesday is great. I need a nap but I won’t get one. So just pray I make it through today! 🙂

Rainy Gloomy Tuesday GO AWAY!!!!

I don’t mind the rain, I really don’t only WHEN it doesn’t cancel our baseball games, affect my drive to work or flood my house! So pretty much I like rain when I sleep or have nothing going on! Two days of games canceled, an extra 30 minutes in hellish traffic and well our house didn’t flood, but the water was creepin.

It’s nature, It’s LIFE, I know… we need the rain. And what a way to bring in spring. No more complaining about it. I just had to get it out of my system 🙂

SO I was a blogging slacker yesterday and have a double dose of WOD’s to catch up on. Our weekend was fairly busy but nothing super interesting to shout about. I rested the whole weekend so I didn’t do a combo of bootcamp and CrossFit. I was having a hard enough time walking properly from what 12.4 did to me. So Monday rolled around and as always I kick off my week with a morning at the BOOM BOX. I seriously need new wrists. Is there a black market exchange program somewhere? We worked on OHS and although I feel I could do more weight, my wrists are on FIRE. I am ordering strength wraps so hopefully that will help. But HOLY COW it pisses me off so bad! It is what it is and I may never be the ELITE CrossFitter that I aspire to be but I’m gonna keep trying.

3/19/12 WOD

For our MetCon yesterday morning it was a 10 min AMRAP ladder of HR Push UPs and Air Squats. You progress by 2’s. So 2 push ups, 2 air squats, 4 pushups, 4 air squats and so on. I managed to complete 22 of each movement and get 4 pushups into the next round. That’s a lot of pushups and air squats!!! 268 total reps! I was wasted. But it was good. And 10 minutes felt like an eternity. Typically 10 minutes seems to fly by but not when you’re doing push ups!!

This Morning I checked out the CrossFit Boom site and saw that we’d be working on strict pullups, doing thrusters and running! Well it’s POURING so I know we aren’t running and couldn’t even begin to guess what would be substituted. Sure enough it was Double Unders! I was quite relieved because DU’s are something I can sorta do decently. But first STRICT PULLUPS! Well I CAN NOT do 1 pull up without band assistance so I know I suck already. But the idea was start off with what you feel comfortable with and do max reps. Then drop a band do max reps, drop down another band if you got it and so forth. Well I had a green and blue band combo and did 10 continuous reps. Then I had to drop to the green band. It’s a little thicker than the blue one. I did a WHOPPING 3 pullups with that. SO I dropped to blue band only and NOTHIN! I had NOTHIN. So I went back to Green Band and could bust out 3 more. I’m weak. It’s defeating. It doesn’t help that I haven’t worked on them outside of the box so I’m plenty at fault. I just wish pull ups were something that came easy to me. So from here on out, it’s my number 1 goal to achieve. I don’t know what a good timeline is so any suggestions would be great. 3 months? 6 months? I don’t know. But I will get a pull up sooner than later!!!! You have my word on that.

3/20/12 WOD

I shake off my defeat and get ready for the MetCon. RX’d is 4 ROUNDS of 15 65lb Thrusters and 50 DU’s. I can do 65lb Thrusters but 4 rounds of 15 is a little daunting. Coach suggests 55lbs and THANK GOODNESS he did because I was struggling. I meant to steal Ernie’s wrist support thingies but I forgot and I ran out of tape. So I had to bear through my wrist pain. I really really fought through and am happy I did because all though I wanted to die, I know I finished strong. DU’s are a little hard after thrusters! It takes a few second for your legs to realize you are trying to make them jump rope 😀 I finished much slower than I had originally anticipated but I found it hard to catch my breath today. So I paused a lot just trying to breathe! Final time: 14:27. Yay for Tuesday!
