Overhead Squats I GOT YOU!

I’m so feeling the pain in my hamstrings after yesterdays Romanian one legged kettlebell deadlifts. They are sore and tight! Nothing like a good dose of the BOOM Box to help me forget the pain!

Skill/Strength: Press 3, 3, 3, 3, 3 Starting at a lower weight moving up to heavy. Being that my 1 RM is 70lbs and I’m stuck there FOREVER, my goal was to finish at 70lbs. After some warm up reps I jumped to 50lbs and although that felt rather light I know moving up will get ya. By the time I got to 65lbs I was feeling strong. I got this. Until the freakin 70lb set. Houston we have a NO GO! UGH! So frustrating.

10/2/12 WOD

MetCon: 5 rounds of 1 minute OHS (55lbs), 1 minute Double Unders, 2 minute rest. The RX for OHS was 65lbs which in hindsight I probably should have done. BUT, the OHS gets me good in the wrists and it HURTS soooo bad. I feared by the 5th round I wouldn’t be able to even hold the bar up. Well my fears were wrong. Last time I worked on OHS Coach had me work on bringing my hands closer in on the bar and that helped a lot. Little did I know that would be my saving grace in all 5 rounds of today’s MetCon. My wrists were fatigued but not in excruciating pain. OHS I have conquered you mentally and physcially…. WOOHOOO… until you get real heavy, sigh! I believe I got 15, 13, 17, 16, 17 for my rounds with the OHS. Doing DUs right after OHS really sucked. My shoulders were tired and I didn’t want to spin the rope around. It took me a little bit to get in a groove and get used to jumping with my OLY shoes. I’m sure I could have done a few more DUs with my regular shoes but then maybe I wouldn’t have been as strong with the OHS. I’ll take the OHS reps over DUs. I believe I got 40, 50, 41, 39, 37 on my DUs, but I can’t recall perfectly. Score: 285. Looks pretty weak amongst the other scores but they all did singles. I didn’t earn an RX either by going 10lbs lighter in the weight so there I sit with my sad 285. I’m ok with it though. I didn’t drop the bar once which I’m notorious for!

21-Day Sugar Detox – Day 2
Yup I survived Day 1. I wasn’t sure that I would. I’m probably hitting the actual water intake that I need because I’m chugging a shit ton every time I want a piece of fruit or something junky. I was struggling on the way home from work yesterday but my Dad’s house had a nice little surprise, GREEN bananas! Thank you baby Jesus, I’m allowed to have a green tipped banana and I needed it! Dinner was Roasted Chicken, Mashed Cauliflower and Spinach Salad. I didn’t manage to get in any salad I just wasn’t hungry.

This morning I had 2 eggs and some Acorn Squash with a dash of cinnamon. So delightful! Then I get to work, review the program and realize I’m not to have ACORN SQUASH! WTH?

ACORN SQUASH IS ON THE NO FOODS LIST!!!

I thought I knew this. Clearly I did not and clearly it was too good to be true! I did know that you could have 1/2 sweet potato if you were an Athlete (hehehe, yes I consider myself an Athlete), so I followed up on that and relearned that I could choose from the “Dense Carb” list and whew I’m in the clear. I will however have to forgo the rest of the squash that I had set up for lunch! Chicken and Cauliflower for lunch. I really need to add some green food. I will for dinner. I must!

And that wraps up my Tuesday. I hope everyone is having a fine day. Make it AWESOME, BE AWESOME!

Trying NOT to SUCK

Woooo Monday again. Yippee Skippy! I hope everyone had a pleasant weekend. It was hot in our part of the world. And we spent it all outside on Saturday for some foosball.

Before the kid’s football games, I made sure to hit up the BOOM Box, I’m sad I’ve been missing the OLY class but my baby boys come first. At least I can squeeze in the Community WOD and boy oh boy was it fun! I can rest assured that if my vehicle breaks down on me that I am capable of pushing it out of the way!

We started off with a typical warm up, then tested our Kettle Bell Skills. We did max KB swings for 90 seconds. We did American style swings and for me at 1 POOD I managed to get 42 swings in.

Annie Sakamoto doing what looks like 2 POOD. I am not that beastly. I only did half that!

We then moved outside and Coach got in his truck and told us we would get in teams of 2 and have 30 seconds to push his truck as far as possible. I was up first with Omar and we were killing it till we ran out of room. So Coach decided to set his truck up going uphill towards the exit of the warehouse complex we are in. It was kind of amazing most everyone got the same distance. No team was drastically over the top. After we went in teams of two we split up into teams of 5. We got a little further but we also hit a steeper part of the hill and that took a lot out of me for sure. I think both teams hit about the same spot. After that Coach rolled his truck back and said it was time to go all on your lonesome if you wanted.

Coach showin us how it’s done … with Briggs and Leigh on the back!

My partner, Omar, decided to give it a go and made it pretty far, so I decided HECK I should just give it a try and well la de da de I could move that truck! I don’t remember how far I made it because I was sucking wind but it felt good to know I could do it! All the peeps who showed up and gave it a try did really well – BOOM!

After all the Super Hero truck pushing we still had a MetCon to do! We had a 5 minute AMRAP of 5 Push Ups and 10 Air Squats. I managed through 12 rounds + 5 Push Ups + 1 Air Squat. Wasn’t the greatest as I slowed down a lot on Push Ups. I was beat and ready to go home!

This morning I was not ready for the BOOM though. I was tired. I ate poorly and I was super sore, not sure if it was the truck pushin or the 121 air squats from Saturday but I definitely was walking funny!

Skill/Strength: 4 x 8 of Back Squat @ 70% of 1RM then 4 x 6 of press moving up in weight each set. I ended up warming up to 105lbs for my Squat and completing my 4 sets of 8 at that weight. It wasn’t super hard but it was definitely taxing on the ol’ lower body. I felt good throughout though which is a NICE feeling overall. Typically something starts giving me grief but today I felt I focused.

Moving onto Press was pretty nice as well. We were pressed for time and I felt the little bit of rush helped me at first. There was no time for thinking and I just did. The downside for limited time is that I don’t feel I rested enough for my last set. I failed at 65lbs which isn’t shocking because my max Press is 70lbs. So I dropped down to 60lbs and finished out.

9/24/12 WOD

MetCon: 12 minute AMRAP of 10 Box Jumps (20″) and 10 Regular Push Ups. This is where the SUCK came in and I tried not to SUCK but I couldn’t help it. Box Jumps! Argh. It’s been a while since we had the BOX Jump in our MetCon and it took a hold of me and beat me up. And then my Push Ups fell apart. It was so bad I had to drop to my knees to keep up any kind of form. Blah. I completed 9 rounds + 10 box jumps. Womp Womp! I still did work. I was spent. So it was a good work just a sad showing in my opinion.

There’s always tomorrow to redeem myself! Let’s just hope I do so!!! Until then! Be AWESOME!

Fab Friday

The weather has really cooled down around here, chilly for girl babies, i.e. ME and it’s great. One of my kiddos told me today was Fab Friday. They get a little bit shorter classes for the day and an extended RECESS, that is if you’ve been a good student all week! How fun is that? Can we do that in our grown up world please? It’s also FAB because today was Crazy Sock Day at their school and don’t you know I have a ton of socks that they were able to get crazy with. I love that one of my kids picked a BACON sock to wear on one leg and mulit colors on the other leg. I say leg, because they are knee socks and well knee on me and leg on him! I clearly ♥ my kiddos and their fun spirits!

Anyhow it was also not so bad of a day at the good ol’ BOOM Box! Kinda Fab there as well. I’ve said FAB so much I feel like it’s the word of the day from Pee Wee’s Playhouse… AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!

Skill/Strength: 3 RM of Press
So I’ve been stuck at 70lb 1RM of Press for what could be FOREVER although not really, just in my head. And today was 3RM. I warmed up a bit at 35lbs then jumped up to 55lbs. Jumped to 65lbs and my lower body snuck right on in and I did a push press! YIKES, not good. Rest, Lacrosse Ball and Repeat. I’ve developed some sort of tightness/pain, whatever you want to call it, somewhere along my lat/shoulder, and well it hurts.

I roll it out with a lacrosse ball and wooowweee it sucks. I went back to my 65lb bar waiting for me and got 3 reps in but a little wonky on the last one. I didn’t have a left arm Chicken Wing today but a right arm weaksauce instead. I moved right on up to 70lbs, got 1 rep and wouldn’t you know it the damn Push Press showed up for rep 2. ARGH. I put the bar down, took a lil break and finally showed up to knock out the 70lbs. It was a little better than 65lb reps! I take that as another win 3RM at my 1RM weight, FAB! AHHHHHH!

MetCon: 3 Rounds of 1 minute KettleBell Swings (1Pood), 1 minute Ring Rows, 1 minute Wall Balls (14lb ball), 1 minute REST
KB swings are my strength for this WOD so I knew I couldn’t fail with these and I didn’t. I did the whole minute UNBROKEN all three rounds. I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it on that last round! Ring Rows after KB swings was no walk in the park, my first round was weak but I stepped it up on rounds 2 and 3. Finally WALL BALLS, my kryptonite. Last Community WOD there was only 10lb balls left to use and those were delightful for as much as a wall ball can be delightful. Add 4lbs to a med ball and it’s not so delightful! I really dragged ass on those. I don’t think I ever managed to get more that 13 in one minute. Not a good showing at all. Overall I ended with 186 total reps. Hopefully that was a challenging mark for the rest of the day but I can only hope.

Have a FAB (AHHHHH!) Friday Folks! Make it an AWESOME weekend and make AWESOME contagious!!!

it is what it is

Holy moly… After yesterdays fatigue on the good ol’ TRICEPS I thought they would be dead but they were not. It’s my chest and rotator cuffs (maybe) that are FRIED. Which in turn probably hindered me this morning at the BOOM Box.

Our scheduled programming was … drum roll please … CROSSFIT TOTAL! I recall sometime in my early days of CrossFit that I did this once. I could not find it written down or blogged anywhere. And I can’t recall for the life of me what I did. Today however was loud and clear. I had high hopes and left with disappointment then came to terms with it and hope that in 8 weeks when we do this again that I’ll have higher numbers.

8/31/12 WOD

For all my lovely readers who don’t know what CFT is then I’ll explain. You do 1 Rep Max of Back Squat, Press and Deadlift. You get 3 attempts at each movement to get the biggest lift. At the end you add up your lifts and voila, whatever number you have is your CrossFit Total.

With each movement we started out with a solid warm up at lighter weights. I have been struggling with Back Squat recently and decided to do my 1st attempt 135lbs which lower than my current PR. My 2nd attempt was at 145lbs (current PR) and I used a weight belt which was wonderful! I felt really good at 145lbs. So I jumped to 155 for my 3rd attempt. Got down to the bottom and gave everything I had to get up but couldn’t do it.

With Press I was feeling a 5lb PR was on it’s way and boy oh boy was I wrong. I didn’t eve get to my current PR which was really lame-o. I had trouble with getting my breathing timed right with the press. 65 seemed simple. 70 was HARD today.

We finish with Deadlift. Dude I’ve been stuck at 185 Deadlift for what seems like FOREVER! Today was going to be the day to break it. But NOOOOO! 195 was not budging. I guess my LIES to myself aren’t good enough yet. But they will be and I will finally move some weight DAMN IT!

With all of that said and explained, KNOW this isn’t a poor poor petri session. This is a I GET it and I MISSED it today but I’m NOT giving up or throwing in the towel or even settling for being subpar. Just gotta move on and work harder!

I will say I witnessed and have been reading FB posts of other BOOM Box ladies AND they are killing it! PR Factory at the BOOM! Even though I’m a little envious, I’m super proud of them all! Way to go LADIES, and MEN too if you are crushing it. I can tell you it’s truly amazing to see the progress in everyone and I hope to find some strength from that!

It’s the weekend y’all! Football and REST for us. Go ARLINGTON THUNDER! Yay for 3 DAY WEEKENDS! If you’re local…. BOOM BOX COMMUNITY WOD 9am MONDAY!!!!!! COME OUT and PLAY with US! and BE so AWESOME that it makes others sick!

Yay Monday! Hehe, Ok NOT really!

Besides being broke, AC in car crapping out on me and whatever else I can whine about it’s my least FAVORITE day MONDAY! In reality it’s not that bad. I just like to give Mondays a bad rap.

Europa
The CrossFit competition came and went like a whirlwind. The day flew by and we had a great time! I’d like to say my TEAM was AWESOME! For a bunch of ROOKIES we did pretty good. We placed 22nd out of 79 teams. There were some amazingly strong folks out there and when I grow up I want to be just like them ツ I only competed in 1 of the 3 WODs which was sad at first but fine by me at the end of the day. I would have slowed the team down had I attempted to compete in the other two WODs. But I will say I think the one I was in was the WORST one to be in. It started out with 15 Curtis Ps using a 30lb sandbag. After that 2 of us had to run the sandbags to the other end of arena, run back and start our leap frog push ups. All the while, our other two team members had already begun the pushups. The leap frog push ups went on for what seemed like FOREVER. We had to lie side by side in push up position, elbows touching. Then we had to push up over our partner over and over for a long distance. I don’t even know how long, I just know half way through I felt like dying and Ernie puked in his mouth. Thank goodness it wasn’t while he was jumping over me!

Me and Mel (AKA SUPER WOMAN) ready to start the day at Europa.

The first WOD consisted of 200 back squats, 50 per team member. I have a 1 RM of 145 and the squat weight was 135. This is why I was not part of the WOD. The rest of my team KILLED it! I was so happy and proud for them to push through like they did! It was pure amazeballs!

The third WOD was all SNATCH and running. It was 21-15-9 of Snatch then run to other end of arena and back after each set. Each team member had to complete the round before they could run. We practiced SNATCH at the box on Friday and well I sucked. So we decided I wouldn’t partake. Thank goodness because even though I probably would have found some competitive strength I know our team would have had a slower finish. So proud of the BOOM Box!!

The BOOM teams! We had one Elite team and one Intermediate team! So proud of everyone ツ Happy to spend the day with y’all!

POST Europa
Several of us met up at BJs Brewhouse and stuffed our faces with pizza and pizookies. Although it was 1000% yummo, I felt 3000% crappo! Definitely had a food hangover on Sunday. I’m gonna kind of give myself the week off from super clean eating, get back into it next week and then go full blown sugar detox again the first week of September. Don’t get me wrong I’ll probably eat rather clean regardless but I won’t be too concerned if some cheese, sugar or wheat crosses my path!

8/20/12 WOD
So my knees are a little lot bruised up and my quads are still tender but I was feeling pretty good this morning. I’m hoping the rest of the team is recovering nicely!

Skill/Strength 5×5 Press @90% of 5RM. I couldn’t find a 5RM that I’ve noted so Coach told me to go with 60lbs. I was kind of excited to work on Press because I struggle with it so much. The good thing about competitions is that you come out of them wanting to push harder and be better. I did fine until my 4th set. I only managed to get 4 reps completed. So I rested a bit and was going to attempt 6 reps for my last set. Ends up I only got 4 again. So I took a small break and busted out the last 2. I felt ok though overall. I have the worst upper body strength so any work is better than no work.

8/20/12 WOD

MetCon: 400m run, 10 STRICT Toes To Bar. Yikes! I have a hard enough time kipping the TTB. I was just inches from touching the bar but just didn’t have the UMPH to get my toes up there. So we went for Knees To Elbows. Well I can get my knees almost high enough to be legit but the whole bending my elbows to make contact with knees just wasn’t happening! Coach gave me the clearance to move forward with my knees coming up ALMOST to my knees, whew! It still was not easy I promise. We all know I hate running so I wasn’t too excited for that but I plowed away at it and I really felt like I pushed more than I typically do on the bar. I was actually making leeway and catching up on the other folks there with me this morning. I made the mistake of thinking I could catch a really fast 15 year old in one of the runs. It was good that I pushed but geez it sucked! Time 13:16. I ended up catching him in the end though so I felt good. Is it sad that I get satisfaction from barely beating a kid? Hahaha, YES I suppose.

Overall, I’m trying to get in a positive more competitive mindset. I started out gung ho (A YEAR AGO), fell flat after letting my deranged mental side take over and now I’m ready to do ramp it up. Hopefully this HOPE and DESIRE stay strong and don’t fizzle out! Next week marks a full year of CrossFit for me. Coming in I had no idea where I’d end up or if I would even stick with it. But I’m still here and I plan to kick it into high gear.

Have a INSANELY GOOD Monday! And be AWESOME!

Gettin’ It Done

After some consistency in my clean eating, getting a little more sleep and still gettin work done at the box I feel like my downward spiral of loserness is spiraling back up to awesomness. It’s not raining butterflies and glitter yet but I’m getting there.

With that said I almost didn’t get up for the BOOM Box this morning! Hahahah… I was so happy sleeping away. I still made it sure enough. 1 RM of Press was our Skill/Strength. I KNEW in my head I had a PR coming. And my head was an absolute LIAR. My brain sits on a throne of lies and my body fails me regularly! I still have the same Press and I was sad. My push press is 100lbs! I know I get to use my legs but still I was hoping for at least a 5lb baby PR! Just have to put more work in!

8/2/12 WOD

MetCon: 11.1 OPEN WOD – 10 min AMRAP of 30 Double Unders and 15 Ground To Overhead (45lbs)

Wooweee I was nervous for this workout. Starting out with Double Unders isn’t so bad. I can string em up pretty good, but I knew when my shoulders wore out it would be hard to keep it up. As for the 15 GTOH, I did Snatches. Some were muscled up and some were power snatches and I was slow my first round. I just wasn’t mentally in the right place. As time went on my DUs sucked, out of breath, losing focus, etc. But my Snatch got a little better because all I could think was GO H.A.M.! I don’t think I really went as hard as I probably should have but I was trying and I felt like I was moving fast and then I’d feel like I was in slow motion. My last set of DUs before time ran out were my best. Somehow my rope got a knot in it and I did my 30 DUs unbroken! Doing that on the last set was pretty amazeballs considering I was smoked. Maybe I just had that laser focus because time was running out. Score: 5 rounds + 30 + 7

Football conditioning for the kiddos disappeared the past 2 weeks but we are now into official practices. Like I’ve mentioned previously I’m going to add some workouts in during this time. I’m there for 2 1/2 hours so I might as well make it productive right?!? Not sure what I’ll do tonight but work will get done.

That’s all I got for ya today. Have a crazy fun day. Be awesome!!

Good Eats, Sweeties and Happy 4th!

Well Well Well… I gave into the sugar monster hardcore last night but right before that I ate some delicious food from the Woodshed Smokehouse in Fort Worth. If you haven’t been and you love meat then this place should be your next stop. I’ve heard good things but nothing ever specific and I had been wanting to go for a while now. Chef Tim Love’s menu has something for everyone and everything is a unique flavor combo of foods I would never had imagined. Of course I’m no chef nor am I a foodie.

WOODSHED SMOKEHOUSE

We ventured out that way for my dad’s 61st Birthday and it seemed like it would be a nice laid back atmosphere and that is exactly what it ended up being. We weren’t sure what to eat and our server nicely explained all of our options. They offer big family type meals but we opted to go for smaller plates so we could sample a variety of foods. Our dinner was comprised of Smoked Whitefish Dip (good stuff); Brisket Stuffed Piquillo Peppers, Bone Broth & Cotij (YUMMO); Elk Sausage (Good); Animal of the Day Tacos which was Lamb (Not a big fan of lamb but it was good); Local Acorn Squash, Tuaca, Dark Brown Sugar, Smoked Pepper Hollandais (sweet and tasty); 3 Kale Salad (BEST KALE SALAD EVER); Woodshed Burger, Chopped Beef, Todays Sausage (ELK), Smoked Cheddar; Pork Ribs; Bulgogi Beef, House Kimchi Tacos; and Baked Potato. Now I didn’t eat the Burger, Ribs, Bulgogi Tacos or the Baked Potato but I was told they were good. My kids were like little scavengers picking up any inkling of crumb or missed bite. All of our food came out cooked perfectly and really tasty. Loads of unique flavors as well. I feel like you can’t go wrong in ordering. Everything tasted wonderful. Below are some pics. They aren’t the best but you get the idea of what’s going on.

3 Kale Salad

Sausage of the Day (ElK), Animal of the Day (Lamb) Tacos (Chiles stuffed with brisket on the top edge of pic, I didn’t get a good pic of those)

Acorn Squash

It’s perfect for families or just a group of friends hanging out for some drinks. It’s a big patio with indoor and outdoor seating. Reservations are recommended. Although not jam packed, it was still busy for a Monday evening. After we stuffed our faces we had to have dessert, it’s my Dad’s Birthday!!! It’s required right?!? LOL… Ernie gave me a big eye roll and REALLY??!!?? face and I said HELL YA I’m trying dessert. We ordered Blackberry Cobbler (WOWOWOW), Buttermilk Lemon Cake (HEAVENLY) and Fried Apple Pies (Had Jalepenos inside which was different, unique and unexpected but still DELICIOUS). We passed around the dessert taking a bite at a time. So although we ordered a lot we split it between 7 of us. It was a pleasant dinner and fairly Paleo with the exception of the desserts. I did take some bites of flatbread just to try it. I give this place 2 thumbs up. Probably will be back in the very near future.

Soooo did this affect my performance at the BOOM BOX this morning? Probably so. Although I didn’t feel it at first.

Skill/Strength was 3 x 5 Press @ 50lbs. This has become somewhat of a lightweight to me because my max is 70lbs. But we clearly are working up to a bigger goal. It was probably about 6 months ago and 50lbs at numerous reps was a little taxing on me. It’s nice to see where I’ve come from.

7/3/12

MetCon: 4 minute AMRAP of 3 Squat Cleans (75lbs) and 10 lateral bar jumps, 90 second rest, 4 minute AMRAP of 3 Squat Cleans (75lbs) and 10 lateral bar jumps. Wooowwweeee I knew this is going to be a KILLER WOD. I knew I could Squat Clean the weight but I wasn’t sure how my legs were going to hold up for 4 minutes. And I had no idea the 10 simple lateral jumps was going to freaking take out my lungs!!! HOLY SHIT, was it the foods that I ate inflamming my insides so I couldn’t catch a breath? After 3 rounds I hit a brick wall of not knowing how to breathe! I managed to bust out 3 more rounds and finish the first 4 minutes with 6 rounds. Our 90 second break was too short but my first round felt easy. After the 2nd round my tweaked out wrist started feeling the fatigue. My right forearm started burning and I didn’t want to clean the bar. I managed to get 5 rounds. I know deep down I could have pushed for 6 rounds but my wrist wasn’t feeling it and I still was having a hard time feeling like I could get a good solid deep breath. (I was literally holding my breath as I was just now typing, what a freak I am! LOL)

There ya have it folks. The GOOD, the BAD and the SUGAR JUNKIE!

I hope everyone has a GREAT 4th of JULY! I’m sure you’ll be celebrating tonight. I know we will be watching the fireworks and then maybe heading out to the parade! Arlington, TX has one of the largest 4th of July Parades in the Nation! (don’t quote me on that but I’m pretty confident it’s true) Enjoy it. Go out and Celebrate 🙂 Be awesome!!!!

Mopey Monday

We had a pretty chill laid back did a lot of nothing weekend. It’s nice and not so nice all at the same time. I felt really unproductive and lazy but in turn I felt like I got rest physically and mentally. But it leads to a MOPEY MONDAY indeed.

As I had mentioned on Friday, the plan was to hit up the Downtown Arlington Farmer’s Market and that is what we did. We got there a few minutes before the official open hours but everyone was pleasant and welcoming. Overall I imagined it to be bigger than it actually turned out to be but they had plenty for us to look at. Veggies, all types of Honey, relishes, sauces, spices, jams, breads, some grassfed beef, tamales, jewelry, wood carved items, etc. I failed you all again and did not take pictures while I was there. I just get so wrapped up into the moment, I FORGET to take pictures. I did take one of the stuff we bought once we got home if that helps. :/

We ended up buying some bell peppers, tomatoes, blueberries, plums and peaches. I’ve tried everything but the bell peppers so far and everything was fantastic. We also bought some Amaranth Chips from one of the vendors there (Unhinged Homestead). Better than kale chips! We also bought some Watermelon Jam from her because I sampled some and had buyer’s impulse. We have no idea what we’ll put it on at the moment since we don’t eat bread. It was very YUMMY though and  I’ll just have to make some almond flour biscuits or something!

If you live in Arlington, you should definitely go check it out and support local farmers and businesses.

After the market, we vegged. Monday morning rolls around and I suck at life in
regards to CrossFit BOOM! Actually I only sucked with the running but it was a
big ol bag of suck.

Skill/Strength: 3 x 5 Back Squat at 105lbs and 3 x 5 Press at 50lbs. I felt good doing this today which should mean I’m getting stronger. It’s not a lot of weight but the higher reps is still sweat inducing work. I don’t really inquire as to why we lift how we do, I just trust that it all works out in the end. Does that make me a bad student for not inquiring or does that make me a good student for just doing? HMMMM.

MetCon: 400m Relay. So more running you say? Why YES, MORE RUNNING. We team up in teams of 2, in our case this morning, team of 3. One person runs UPHILL and back for 400m. When they get back, the next person goes. We do this until all parties have run 1 mile each. We had 3, so two of us ran together which probably helped me run a little faster than I typically would have as not to appear loserish. But after the first 400, I dragged ass. BAD! Did I mention it’s uphill? Everything burned and I felt like I couldn’t inhale properly. Not sure if that’s poor eating, humidity, combo of both? But it sucked! My ears started to hurt like they do when it’s cold outside. I was a mess, but I wasn’t feeling sickly so I kept on. We finished in 15:38. I don’t even know if that’s good or bad but it was bad compared to the guys 😦

I really really really HOPE that tomorrow doesn’t involve any sort of running. Seriously. I did let the weekend sneak in some bad eating. Not jumping off the deep end kind of eating but nothing to be proud of either. I have less than three weeks for vacation so STRICT MODE is enabled. I know I can survive the week… it’s the weekend I’m more concerned about!!!

Since the day is almost over, I hope your day has been good. Enjoy your evening. See you mañana. BE AWESOME!!!

Maybe Just Maybe I’ll keep the Sugar Detox ROLLING!

I’ve been reporting that I’ve been feeling great this whole time with the exception of the first few days and it’s all true. But yesterday and today seem to be EXTRA good. Is it just now that my body has finally accepted this way of being? I’m not sure, I’m just saying, I’m MORE AWAKE and I have more ENERGY than I felt last week. I was already feeling great and felt fine. No Cravings. But Normal. However, the past two days I feel more alert and energized. Of course I’m still sleepy at 4:30 am when it’s time to get up but I’m not drained sleepy. And I’m not having a midmorning yawnfest. “MY” extended end date is through this Thursday but maybe I’ll just keep trucking. That’s just A MAYBE folks. And you’ll know I’ll keep you posted in whatever it is I decide.

WOD
The BOOM Box is growing and I LOVE IT cause I LOVE MY BOX! It’s great to see new faces in the 5am and 6am classes. And even thought I don’t see the afternoon folks, I know new people are coming and it’s great. I hope they make it their workout home 🙂 Enough LOVE talk and onto the workout.

5/22/12 WOD

Skill/Strength: We worked on Press today. We took 90% of our max then took 80%, 85% and 90% of that for a 3, 3, 3+ combo. After a couple of warm ups with the 35lb bar I jumped to 50, 55, and 60lbs. My last set I completed 8 reps. Not bad since Press is one of my weaknesses.

MetCon: 3 Rounds of 50 KB swings and 400m run. Have I complained about all the running we’re doing lately? hehe, YES I complain lots. But doesn’t it seem like more running than one should want to do? JOKES of course. I need to run even if I despise it. I worked with 1POOD (about 35lbs) for my KB Swings. I did all 3 rounds UNBROKEN. And well the running sucked. So I think the runs took up too much time but that’s part of it. TIME: 11:57

Well I already touched base on the Sugar Detox and I don’t want to bore you with more rambling. But I did manage to try out a new recipe. Another Blogger Friend of mine posted it from Everyday Paleo. I pretty much had all the ingredients so I made it. Simple with a slight twist take on Meatballs. It was a win for having something different. It can be found at Everyday Paleo and below as I have copied it from them. The only thing I didn’t have was Ground Pork, so I doubled up on the Beef. I served mine up on some shredded and sauteed zucchini. It was wonderful!

Mexican Meatballs served over Zucchini Faux Noodles.

The Sauce (Seafood enchilada sauce from Everyday Paleo)

Note: prepare sauce or have it simmering prior to putting meatballs into the oven.

1 medium onion, minced

2 tbsp coconut oil

2 cups tomato puree (make your own-about 4 large tomatoes pureed in a food processor)

4 garlic cloves, minced

2 tbsp chili powder

1/2 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp sea salt

Saute the onions in coconut oil until limp.  Add tomato puree, garlic, chili powder, cumin, oregano and salt.  Mix well and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring often.  Pour the sauce into a food processor and process until smooth.

Meatballs

1 lb ground beef

1 lb ground pork

1 1/2 tsp salt

3 garlilc cloves

1 tbsp oregano

1/2 small onion, minced

2 tsp cumin

Mix together all ingredients and form golf ball size meatballs.  Place meatballs into a glass dish (will probably need 2- makes about 24 meatballs) and bake at 375 for 15 min.  Then spoon sauce over the meatballs and bake for another 10-15 minutes.

Try it out. Let me know what you think about it.

That’s it for today folks. Have a MARVELOUS TUESDAY.

I’ll Take What I Can Get/Earn!

Saw this on Facebook yesterday... Fits me perfectly for the week!

So I had the big ol FAIL yesterday with the Dead Lift 1RM. It was only a fail cause I didn’t PR which what I was hoping for but it wasn’t a fail in general. At least I’m not getting worse right?

4/24/12 WOD

Well today was 1RM for Strict Press. And I PR’d today at 70lbs! It’s a small victory but I’ve earned it and I’ll take it. Mentally I get disappointed because I want bigger gains but that’s something I have to come to terms with…. Growth is growth and I’m just growing slowly. Let me tell you that 70lb press was UGLY! My poor right shoulder just doesn’t want to work for me. My left shoulder did all the work and at the last umph the right arm got up there. I felt like I had a broken wing or something. I’m happy that I managed to muscle it up, THANK GOODNESS or I might have cried right then and there! If I have to baby step my PRs by 5’s then so be it. That’s the way I’ll have to roll and one day I’ll be okay with it 🙂 But for now I WANT MORE! But I also need new body parts with that more!

The MetCon was a 10minute AMRAP of PISTOLS and SUMO DEAD LIFT HIGH PULLS (SDLHP). The goal was to add 2 to each round and do as many as possible. We started with 2 pistols, 2 SDLHP, 4 pistols, 4 SDLHP, etc… With the pistols it was an overall so when we get to 6 pistols… it’s 3 on each leg, 8 pistols – 4 on each leg. Make sense? Well it did to me until I started…hahaha. So I managed to do 1 pistol on each leg, then 2 pistols on each leg then I just got dumb or something and did 6 pistols on each leg, 8 pistols on each leg and 10 pistols on each leg. DOH! WOW who does that? This girl… right here! I did double the work on one of my least favorite movements. So in 10 minutes I got through the 10’s and 8 extra pistols. It was only last round that I realized what I had done. Ah well. It is what it is….at least I got some good work in on those pistols. And I did get a little better as the time went on. I was on the box so it wasn’t RX but I did get my right leg working a bit better than it has been. My left leg and super painful IT band were a little more well behaved than they have been in the past. I never got a really GREAT pistol on the left side but I got some decent ones.

Tomorrow will be a nice day of rest although parts of me wants to go into the box just to get in another attempt at my 1RM Dead Lift!

In other news I’ve decided I’m going to do the The 21-Day Sugar Detox. I’ve been honest with y’all when I’ve had bad foods and it’s crazy how much I have been craving those “bad” foods! So I try to make “healthy” sweet treats and that’s SOOOO NOT THE WAY to go!  I know this and always have but I have had good restraint up until about the last 2 months and I’m just a big ol slacker. I’ve still been eating pretty good but I think I’m sabotaging myself lately. Really, I’m a fat kid on the inside and I like my sweeties! Hopefully going on the sugar detox will get me back on the straight and narrow. Don’t get me wrong I’ll still make the treats but eat them as they are intended…. every now and then TREATS, not a daily/nightly all the time snack :/ I plan on starting May 1. I’ll keep you posted on if I stick to this goal and how it goes. Check it out. Let me know if you want to start with me. I need some buddies!

Alright y’all have a great Tuesday. GO RANGERS! I know they lost last night but I’m confident they’ll come right back and take the series! I got this neato sight as I was driving home. It’s like digital sky writing. I’ve never seen such in person. Very cool and I’m a nerd I know 🙂
