Bbbllllaaaahhhhh!

I don’t know if it’s the heat or what but I just am out of it. I think life in general is just stressful and it takes a toll. I’m not going to bed when I should because of the Olympics, yes it’s a valid excuse! And I’m dragging in the morning. AND I really sucked at the BOOM BOX today.

Skill/Strength: Split Jerk
We worked on form and technique today with only pvc and the bar. Working on these things are never a bad thing. It really helps to go through the motions and really get the little things worked out. The tiniest movements are crucial to having a successful lift. Now I just need OLY shoes because Lift Big, Eat Big told me so (HINT, HINT, WINK, WINK)!

MetCon: 10 rounds of 12 lunges, 6 burpees
1. My legs are smoked from sprints and Death by Front Squats
2. I’m tired
3. The burpees were not the normal, fall to ground, get up, jump up and clap hands over head. Instead it was fall to ground, get up and jump up on bumper plate. I didn’t think this was any big deal but for some reason I let it get to me mentally.
4. I sucked
5. Time 9:59, Thank goodness I made it under 10 minutes.

That’s it in a nutshell. I hate being Debbie Downer but it’s how I feel today. I can fake it till I make it and I think I am doing JUST that by getting my butt up at 4:30 am! I just need to feel less blah. I’m thinking it’s just a phase, because I recall a few months ago I was sounding pretty much the same. Then I started feeling super awesome and now I’m back to not feeling as super. SIGH! I’m hoping you faithful readers stick with me and don’t get burned out on my crybaby self.

Keep your heads up (yes that’s for me) and keep on keepin’ on. BE AWESOME!

(NOTE: I’ve made a similar statement before but I figure I need to make it every now and then so you all don’t think I’m a more of a loonball than I already am. Yes these are petty things I whine about compared to what goes on in the whole universe and I know I’m fortunate that I have good health and a great family, job, etc. I am not ungrateful for the things I am blessed with. In turn I know we all have these feelings when living under our own rocks. I just express them openly. Please know this is an outlet and inside peek to my life. Hopefully relatable to some as well. Heheh maybe more than a peek sometimes. And you don’t really want to know what goes on in my world. Maybe some of you do, but I’m not here to share all my stories!)

I am SMOKED! And it feels like Monday again, WTH?

Actually it felt like Sunday but I have work so it then felt like a Monday! Two Mondays in one week?!?! Sigh! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. We didn’t do much. Watched the parade, lounged around, cleaned house and ate sub-par. ☠ Below are a couple of parade pics. I’m not a photographer, just an iPhone pic snapper.

I knew I was in for it at the BOOM BOX. Our Skill Strength was 8 x 20 yd Flying Sprints. I know what sprints are but I’ve never heard of flying sprints. I know I don’t have wings so unless Coach had magic fairy dust to help us sprout some I was lost! Ends up you get about 10 yds to build up to FULL ON SPRINT, then you carry that on for 20 seconds. We did 8 rounds and the whole time really focused on good form and good starts. It was a good WAKE UP SHAKE UP.

7/5/12 WOD

MetCon: 15 minute AMRAP of 5 Push Press, 20 Lunges. RX weight was 85lbs and I’m pretty sure my max Push Press is 85lbs so Coach had me work at 65lbs. After looking through the ol’ blog, my push press max is 90lbs. So I’m sure I could have added more weight but I really felt like 65lbs was a good weight when you’re talking about a 15 min AMRAP! The real death blow were the 20 lunges. That’s 20 lunges total, not 20 each leg, THANK GOODNESS but it was still insane. You use your legs quite a bit in the Push Press and combo that with Lunges! You catch on FIRE fast! Literally in round 3 I thought HOW IN THE HELL AM I GOING TO GO MORE and in that thought and thinking of how sucky I ate, I sucked up my inner baby and just went. Somewhere around my 6th round the FIRE disappeared, well it didn’t really disappear but I stopped thinking about it. And I just charged through. 15 minutes is a long time!

Final: 14 rounds 2 Push Press. (Note: I really pushed here. Typically when there’s like 10 seconds left I struggle with getting the bar up and just sit there struggling with the bar till time expires but today I really broke some barriers by getting that bar up and pushing out those 2 presses!)

Bonus: Although it’s not the full lift recorded and it’s only one rep, I did have a video fairy catch part of my Clean & Jerk from last weekend’s OLY Class. You miss the whole “CLEAN” part and just see me coming out of the squat though. Nothing magical here but at least you can see me doing work and I’m not randomly blogging about made up crap 🙂

One week till my much anticipated vacation! And for some reason I’m a glutton for eating bad lately. Is it because I’m on vacation mode already? I have no idea. But I should be on lock down. Eating clean as possible until departure and even through most of vacation. Let me be clear, I haven’t thrown everything out the window and just on EAT mode. Instead I’m ruining it with little things but ruining it none the less. Big SIGH! I’m really trying for this week to just be like I’ve always been: Eat clean 90-95% of the time and not try to sabotage myself! We’ll see how it goes. I really already don’t want to be in swim attire as it is, I know I REALLY won’t want to be if I keep letting the little things ruin my eating!

Happy 2nd Monday folks. Tomorrow is FRIDAY and I’m ready for the weekend!! Be AWESOME!!!

Lunges, Pizza and It’s all DOWNHILL from here!

How about that for some good OL randomness!

WOD
The BOOM Box Workout write up is short and sweet today although the workout itself was grueling! The skill/strength was Strict Press 5, 5, 5+. After all the percentage math I ended up with 50lbs, 55lbs and 60lbs. I struggled a little bit on the 60lbs after my initial 5 reps but squeezed two more reps out for 7 on my last attempt!

5/11/12 WOD

The MetCon was WEIGHTED LUNGES. 8 rounds of max distance lunges holding extra weight in bumper plate form for 90 seconds and then a 30 second rest. Full rep is knees hitting ground. No cheating! I tried to keep a mental count of my splits but I just couldn’t keep track. Hugging on a 25lb plate gets to hurt really fast. I held it on my head. Held it over the top of my back. Back to hugging it. It becomes a big ol nuisance by the 8th round. I didn’t stop except for my 30 sec rests, so that was GOOD. We counted total yds and I got a dead even 250yds. I may not feel my legs or butt tomorrow. I’ll let you know how that goes!

Gluten Free Pizza RANT
So by now a lot of you have probably seen or heard of Dominoe’s Pizza advertising their GLUTEN FREE PIZZA! And I know there’s pizza mixes and other restaurants offering the same craptastic idea. So now it’s all ok to chow down on pizza right? NO PEOPLE it’s not ok. It just means there is more processed crap and other not healthy things filling the place of the GLUTEN. It’s not a health advantage. You’re not CHEATING the system. The problem with most “GLUTEN FREE” labeled products is that if it’s simulating a wheat product it most likely has NOT GOOD STUFF IN IT. So OK you have CELIAC and want PIZZA this a good way to get it in but at what costs? Don’t get me wrong I love me some pizza, but don’t get all crazy with the gluten free tag. It’s not a free pass. You’re still being fed junk and I’m not just talking about calories, I’m talking about highly processed, chemicals, fake stuff and you are putting that in your body maybe once in a while, maybe regularly, I have no idea, only you do. At least try eating REAL food. Ya life is short, you’re busy, blah blah blah, to each his own. I’m just trying to be some beacon of light that if you wonder why your kid has stomach issues, or you have migraines, or regular ailments it MOST likely comes from the consistent flow of crap you put in. Our bodies aren’t meant to break down all the processed foods. Cut out the GLUTEN, don’t replace it with FAKE shit and eat real food! I’m done for now. You know I’ll be back in regards to this but CARRY ON! It’s Friday, I’m sure it’s PIZZA night anyways! HA!

Day 11 Sugar Detox
Is it true? I’ve made it halfway? I haven’t slipped up (well except for sweet potato indulgence that one day)? I haven’t had extra fruit besides a green tipped banana or green apple, which are allowed by the way, and note I didn’t eat one or the other EVERY DAY so YAY! NO added sugars PEOPLE and I’m still alive and I’m NOT miserable. You know I was but it was quick. I feel good, I feel like I’m more efficient. Maybe it’s mental but it at some point has to be physical because my body isn’t having to work any extra. I’m putting in good vegetables and grassfed meats and all is well. My urge to WANT treats is diminishing LIKE FOR REAL, my brain still thinks it but eh I don’t want it anymore like I did a few days ago. I’m diggin my DETOX. Who would have thunk it? 10 days to GO! All downhill from here!

Have a superlicious weekend folks! As always make it awesome. SMILE. Do something ridiculous and put a smile on someone else’s face 🙂 AND HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL YOU MOMMA’S!!!!

I don’t REALLY need my legs do I?

Welcome Welcome. It’s Monday. My least favorite day. And today at the BOOM Box… lots o’ fun! Coach was probably thinking we don’t need our legs.

4/30/12

The Metcon was 75 BOX JUMPS and 150 yds of LUNGES. And don’t you think you can short yourself on those lunges. Full range is a must or why bother even doing it. Although you do fatigue and you just wish the lunges were over. The box jumps were 20″ and I think I took more time trying to figure out how to be springy vs. knocking them out for time. The idea is to stay on the ground as little as possilbe. Rest on top of the box. It’s not natural for my brain to think this way but I really worked at it or at least I felt like I did. I about face planted into some rowers as I finished my last rep and jumped forward off the box. My legs were a little wonky for sure. Lunges were just miserable. My IT band doesn’t help and my right hip got to burning. I didn’t stop though, just kept on trucking. Finished at 10:56 :/

For the Skill/Strength we worked on strict pullups. I still suck at pullups but it is what it is… one day I will be AWESOME at them but for not I just have to dream of AWESOME!

Overall it was a good weekend. Got some Regional Swag that Ernie brought home for me and the kiddos. It’s always fun to get presents 🙂

Had some great baseball and some fantastic crawfish. All in all it was a GREAT weekend, not just good. I did eat fairly poorly in regards to sugar, bread and whatever else. But I start the 21-Day Sugar Detox tomorrow so I splurged a little knowing the next 21 days will be miserable!!!

I hope the week can be as wonderful as my weekend but there’s this thing called work… ruins everything!

Happy Monday if that’s possible!

Dreaming to be an ELITE athlete!

Thank GOODNESS they are only dreams. The CrossFit Games Regional Workouts were released and all I can say is WOW! I can’t imagine what the FINALS will be like!

Take a look for yourself!  http://games.crossfit.com/workouts/regionals-individual

Moving ON for sure. I’ll just keep dreaming. And maybe one day I’ll be able to complete that insansity. As for my WOD this morning – Draining for sure!

We worked on Snatch Push Press for Skill/Strength. I’m pretty sure some people call it a Behind the Neck Press as well. It’s a wide grip on the bar with the bar resting on the back of your shoulders. Like as if you’re going to do a Back Squat. Instead you push press overhead. We did a 3rep Max and I managed to bust out 3 reps at 85lbs. I still had that “popping” every time I came down with it on my Right Shoulder. I kind of googled it and read that I may have a shoulder impingement. GREAT another IMPINGEMENT. I already have one on my hip! Can I just get a new BODY? PLEASE! One that works a little better? Hehehe. I found a video at Catalyst Athletics that shows the movement. The link is below 🙂

So for our MetCon it was 3 Rounds of Hill lunges and 50 KB Swings. Dang that’s gonna be a lot of lunges and KB swings! My legs are still sore from Tuesday…errr and uh Monday! Coach tells us what KB to pick up… 1 POOD for me and now we gotta walk it to our “enemy” the HILL! I hate this hill! I really do because when we are running it’s the HILL that gets me, EVERYTIME! We walk the 200 yds or whatever it is to get to our starting point. Coach marks out a distance of what looks like TOO long for lunges but it is what it is. He comes back and tells us we will lunge from one cone to the other. Run, walk or crawl back and then knock out your 50 KB Swings. FOR TIME! 3, 2, 1 GO. So the first round of lunges weren’t so bad. We all kind of hit them at a good pace and felt good. Not feeling so good after the KB Swings. But I did do the first round UNBROKEN! HELL YA! Second round of lunges – PAINFUL! But survived. Second Round of KB Swings were not unbroken. I did 20, 5, 15 and 10 I think! I was behind John and ODB by like a few swings and was quickly catching up on the lunges but when I got back for the last round of KB Swings I lost form and the back started aching and it was sad. I managed to knock out 15, 5, 5, 5, 5, 15. Finished for a Time of 11:14. The most NOT FUN part was having to carry our darn kettle bell back to the box 😦

4/19/12 WOD

I did lots of rolling out on the foam roller. Back felt much better. Then I worked on some pullups. I don’t have much time to work on them but I hang around for 10-15 minutes. I can finally do pullups with just the green band! Only 3 but better than NONE! Before I had a combo of the blue and green band. WOOOOO! So excited. So I did 3 sets of 3 pullups on green band and did 10 reps with the combo bands. I’m pretty excited about the progress. Let’s hope I just get this goal knocked out sooner than later!

It’s Thursday folks. I still gotta make those choco cherry cookies and it looks like the brownies will be a staple in our home. Great Success! If you’re local and reading this and want to get a WOD in with the BOOM Beasts then come on out to Stovall Park in Arlington. We are doing an outdoor community WOD and all are welcome. 9am! Let me know! www.crossfitboom.com

I’m also planning on hitting up iChoosefit bootcamp at 7am in Mansfield. Come on out with me there as well if you want 2 workouts or if it suits your schedule better to do one over the other!

Let’s get your fitness in check NOW!

Mondays Still Suck BUT I GOT RANGER FEVER!

It was especially hard to get up this morning. After having a tragically disgusting toilet issue in our home last night, sleep came and went just fine but I just didn’t feel rested. The whole weekend was just that way. I slept but that rested feeling wasn’t the outcome. Hopefully it’s just a bump in the road and the week will get better.

Today was MONDAY through and through at the BOOM Box this morning. I was feeling weak during the Skill/Strength which was Front Squats. I know it’s part of it, just lettin you know I was feeling the weaksauce. I still did my part and pushed the best I could so it’s all well and fine.

4/9/12 WOD

The MetCon was another 12 minute AMRAP. I think 12 is Coach’s favorite number lately! So in 12 minutes you did as many rounds as possible of 5 pull ups, 10 air squats and 15 lunges. I know I’ve learned my lesson in thinking that could be an “easy” workout but I’m sure some of you out there are thinking that’s not so hard. Piece of cake! Right? Well you should give it a whirl. You could easily do this at a local park or at home if you have a pull up bar. Even at your GLOBO GYM. Just try it out. Hopefully you’ll push yourself and find out that it’s a doozy! I completed 9 rounds and got 4 pull ups into the next round. I also didn’t completely FAIL at pullups which is normal for me. I was pretty stoked about that. I felt pretty beat down and pretty good all at the same time. After feeling weak during Front Squats I feel like I really pushed through on the MetCon. So yay for ending on a good note.

As far as RANGER FEVER goes man oh man I have it more than ever. Since I was a kid I’ve always gone to games. We were reminiscing about those good times yesterday while eating our Easter meal with family. I was just a kid and the Rangers were not so good but we always had a good time. Now I’m grown, the RANGERS are more than not so good, THEY ARE AWESOME. They have one of the best teams out there right now in all aspects. MY TEXAS RANGERS are freaking HOT! After coming off the World Series highs and lows of last year I’m still on a Ranger high. Listening to the sportscasters talking about the team and how much fun they appear to have and how united they all seem gives me goosebumps. You can see it in the dugout, in the interviews the players give and you can feel it in the stadium. It’s magical. Baseball is MAGICAL!

Looking forward to seeing Yu Darvish make his season debut. I have good feelings about him, hopefully I’m right. Definitely wishing I could afford season tickets. One day I will, but for now it will be TV and the occasional game throughout the season.

Just so ya know, I’m not planning on making my blog a recap of games or anything (at least that’s not the plan), but YOU will probably get a few of these Ranger Fever moments from me. The season is long and I know it will not always be pretty but since I’m documenting bits and pieces of my life I might as well share a little bit of everything.
