Wooo Friday! Keeping my Head UP!

I have had two short weeks in a row, whatever will I do with myself next week when it’s back to my normal schedule! Hopefully everything just chugs along smoothly. I finally got back to the BOOM Box and am interested to see how the new schedule will play out for me. And I’m still kickin my JUNK food slip ups to the curb, going strong into Day 3 of Whole30!

BOOM Box 1/4/13
So I finally made it in! My headache went away midday yesterday which was wonderful, my congestion is clearing up some so I felt good walking in. I wish I had ended as good as I felt when I walked in but that’s part of it when you haven’t shown up in a week and half ass the week before.

Skill/Strength: Push Press 4,4,4,4,4
Coach wanted us to go HEAVY and heavy I tried. After warming up, I started at 55lbs. Slowly and surely moved my way up to 95lbs. I could have gone heavier… I THINK… but 95lbs was my 5th set and I did have some struggle on the last 2 reps. This was the weight I’m supposed to use in the MetCon, sigh.

1/4/13 WOD

MetCon: 10 rounds of 2 Push Press (heavy weight from strength), 5 Lateral Burpees
Welp, I talked myself out of the 95lbs before I even started the WOD but I went ahead and tried it anyways. We had to clean the bar first, so I got it up, Push Pressed, came down and went back up and it was a NO GO. Houston we do have a problem. DoDo Bird here wants to Push Jerk it! So I drop the bar, Clean it AGAIN and just stop. Finally I get it up and move onto my burpees. ROUND 2, it’s not gonna happen. I’ve sabotaged myself into sucking at 95lbs. Not really sure why but I have lost all confidence. I drop to 85lbs and move along. I still struggled on a few rounds with that 2nd Push Press, not sure why but some rounds moved along seamlessly. I’m an odd bird I suppose. The burpees sure did suck by the end. I was disappointed in my lack of mental focus. But at least I did show up. I know once I get consistent again I’ll be rolling along just fine. Until that kicks in, I’ll just try to stay focused. Time: 11:17

Whole30 Day 2-3
Like I mentioned earlier, my headache finally went away. I thank GOOD FOODs for aiding in the process of feeling better. Still no CRAVINGS which is awesome for me. There have been temptations. Someone at work wasn’t aware that you shouldn’t bring Christmas leftover goodies after the start of the NEW YEAR so cookies and what looked like brownies were sitting in the kitchen. And then Ernie has been eating ice cream but I’ve been good and just kept my focus on eating right and cooking right. I’m ready to rock this Whole30 and I’m not going to sink.

I finished out my Day 2 with some skirt steak, broccoli, and sauteed mushrooms. I added half a grapefruit as well and I was good to go. I’m thinking even though I used coconut oil to cook the veggies that I maybe should have added some avocado. Not sure if I had enough “fat” for that meal. Ah well.

Post-Workout Meal

Post-Workout Meal

I had all the intentions of waking up early and getting that Pre-Workout Meal in but I struggled REALLY BAD with getting out of bed. I did manage to come home and get 2 eggs and a serving of cubed sweet potato in. I was ready to eat some avocado then but looked back at my WHOLE30 Success Guide for guidance and it said NOT to ADD fat to this meal unless I need the extra calories. Whew! I do not need EXTRA calories and that’s a fact JACK! Almost had a NO-NO. I’m sure it wouldn’t have killed me but I’m glad I checked. As far as BREAKFAST goes. Whole30 suggests I eat my normal meal 60-90 minutes after my PWO meal. Holy crap. I’ll be en route to work at that time, what will I do? I’ll tell you what I did. I packed a ziplock baggie full of raw broccoli, some pork belly and a green apple with almond butter.

GOODBYE DONUTS (I promise it was only twice last month that I committed such a crime) :D

GOODBYE DONUTS (I promise it was only twice last month that I committed such a crime) 😀

I like me some broccoli. It’s not my favorite vegetable – sautee it, steam it, roast it… I’m all good. EAT IT RAW, completely raw, NO sauce, NO dip, just crunchy raw… and I STRUGGLED. I finished off my baggie even though I lost my will to chew. I was really happy to move on to my pork belly.

Day 3 Meals
2 slices Pork Belly
1 sandwich bag full of raw broccoli
1 green apple
1 packet of almond butter

Left over Skirt Steak
2 cups mixed veggies
1/2 cup of sweet potatoes (cubed)
1 kiwi

(Today I’m slacking on the fat content, argh, it’s always gotta be something)

Roast (maybe)
And figure out what to make with cabbage

I’m back at the BOOM Box in the A.M. because now Saturdays are part of the schedule. Hoping to make it there for the 8 a.m. class! Crossing my fingers and praying I’ll not only make it to the early class but that I can be GOOD for the weekend! My problem will either be I won’t eat enough good food or I’ll cave. I can’t cave though. So I just gotta make sure I get my 3 meals in and drink plenty of water. So far I’m PRing my water intake! Go ME!

I hope everyone has a great WEEKEND. Make it AWESOME!!

We made it to Friday – WHOOHOOO! And I’m so ready for a beautiful weekend full of the Boom Box and kiddo football! Which by the way if you are local (DFW) then come on out to our 9 a.m. Community WOD at CrossFit Boom! It’s a big ol’ ball of fun (pssst… it’s free too)!

This morning’s WOD only had the MetCon so I knew it wasn’t going to be purty. I figured we’d do mobility which is exactly what we did and it was exactly what I needed. After yesterdays Negative Pull Up Hangs, Ring Dips and Power Cleans my upper body was spent. I blame mostly the pull up hangs. Those were brutal.

So our whiteboard agenda this morning was: 9 Shoulder to Overhead, 15 burpees, 6 STOH, 15 burpees, 3 STOH, 15 burpees. As Heavy As Possible and UNBROKEN! Penalties for putting bar down ended up being: Take 10lbs off bar, repeat set unbroken, add 400m run at end of workout. You had to complete an unbroken set before moving on.

9/21/12 WOD

So it was suggested I give it a go at 85lbs. Fair enough, that’s heavy for me! We could push press or push jerk or whatever we needed to do to get the weight up. I did a mix of push press and push jerk as well as muscling it up like a loonball. I warmed my up to 85lbs and was ready to go. I DID complete the set of 9 and struggled through burpees. I rested a lil bit longer than I probably should have but I really didn’t want to fail at 6 reps. And sure enough I don’t think it would have mattered. I struggled on the 3rd rep and just felt I couldn’t get 3 more in. I racked my bar, dropped to 75lbs and fought through 6 reps. I really slowed down with the burpees but came back strong to do my 3 reps. I felt pretty good on those and I didn’t rush through the burpees but I didn’t drag ass either. Time: 6:46, then run, booooo running. Fortunately I only dropped the bar once.

Food note: Been eating like crap, not all the time but been letting our busy days/sad days bring me down. I finally let the tired set in and I just didn’t want to put forth the effort to prepare foods and cook them. I’m back on it once I get some good food shopping in. Overall I don’t feel a negative effect so much in my workouts but I feel it in my waistline! How sucky is that?!? Work so hard at being good month after month, then 1 week of crap and bam you physically feel like poo. Hopefully it’s more a bloating thing than a bad weight gain.

Hope your Friday is FABULOUS! and be AWESOME!! Come to the Boom Box tomorrow!

Welcoming the COOLDOWN

The weather has been freakin AMAZEBALLS down here in Texas. Ya it’s still probably a little warm to everyone else but when you get out of the 100’s and into low 90’s high 80’s you’d think it was winter! That means our mornings are in the 50’s and 60’s. You can’t ask for better!

Saturday WOD
As most of you know we had a Community WOD at the BOOM BOX on Saturday. It was a filled with all sorts of fun. We started out with a contest of counting the weight on the barbell. We had a couple of rounds since only 3 people competed against each other at a time. They would be turned away from the barbell and Coach would load up the bar, 3, 2, 1 LOOK and be the first one to write the correct answer on the board. If you got the weight right but were not first you had to do 5 burpees. If you got the weight wrong you had to do 20 burpees. We went head to head till we had one winner. I made it to the final round winning 2 heats! I got panicked and rushed and got it wrong and ended up penalized with 20 burpees… BoooHoooo!

We then proceeded with a TEAM WOD. We had teams of 3 and 3 stations: Weighted Overhead Lunges, Chest to Bar Pull Ups (no assistance allowed) and Wall Balls. Well shitfire, I can’t do CTB Pull Ups so we’re screwed or so I thought. Turns out we don’t have to do all the stations which is great for me, but it sucks for whoever can do CTB because they have to double up on CTB. And I have to bust out the other movements to make up for my loser-ness. We did 3 rounds of the 3 minute stations and counted total reps. My legs are still dead from Wall Balls but we came in 1st place with 385 reps! Woooo Go us (Nick, Trenton and me)! ツ

9/10/12 WOD
Like I said my legs were still dead from the Wall Balls although I’m sure the Lunges have some factor in the achy legs too. Again with the weather it was so nice to get through our warm up and not be drenched in sweat!

9/10/12 WOD

Skill/Strength: 3 Front Squats + 1 Push Press (15 minutes to get as heavy as possible)I know my MAX Push Press is 100lbs so that was at least my goal for the morning. We steadily worked our way up in weight and when I got to 85lbs I felt some tightness near my underarm in the Push Press, it was NOT comfortable but I still got the weight up overhead. I’m not sure if this is because my rotator cuffs are fried or what but when I jumped up to 95lbs I just wasn’t making the cut. I was ok with where I was at because I knew I had pain and I didn’t want to make it worse and at the end I just couldn’t get the weight up. Need MORE Mobility!

MetCon: 3 rounds of 3 GTOH @ 85lbs, 8 Pull Ups, 1min rest
I wasn’t sure about doing the GTOH with the quickness but I was convinced I could do so. It wasn’t so bad but I was so focused on my shoulders being dead that I wasn’t JERKING the bar efficiently. I got to the pull ups last and well we all know I’m slow at pull ups so that didn’t help me out either. I was all ready to get to the bar FAST and realized no one else was doing anything! I forgot about the 1 minute REST!!! It was nice to have the rest but I still struggled. By my last round of GTOH which I was Clean & Jerking by the way I failed on my 3rd attempt. I was like WTH?!?! Cleaned the bar focused and Jerked the Hell out it! Well that was EASY! Why didn’t I do that the whole time?!? Ha! I have no clue. Then I went on my merry way to struggle on pull ups! Time: 4:48 (NOT GOOD)

Enjoy your hopefully Beautiful MONDAY! It hasn’t been beat down drag ass like Mondays can be so it’s a good day! And remember BE AWESOME.

Sleepy Sleepy, Can I take a Nap Now?

To make up for yesterday’s long rambly post, this will be relatively short and sweet. Mostly though it’s because I’m sleepy and am taking on this day with only 3 1/2 hours of sleep. Yesterday was my middle kiddo’s birthday. We went to dinner and then surprised him with taking him to see the movie Nitro Circus. What’s the big deal about that? It started at 10:45 p.m. and we didn’t get home till about 1 a.m. I still made sure my alarm was set to wake up for the BOOM BOX beating, knowing that I didn’t want to do the MetCon already. I told myself if I don’t wake up, that’s fine, you need sleep. BUT if you do wake, just GO and don’t drag your feet. Well sure enough I woke up and drug my feet! I’m pretty sure I was still half sleeping during my drive there. I was on autopilot.

After our warmup we worked on Push Press. More specifically 12 sets x 2 reps on the minute @ 90% of our strict press. This rounded to 65 lbs for me. I know it’s hot in the BOX even at 5 a.m. but geez I was dripping sweat by our last set. I underestimated the work in that simple movement.

MetCon: 3 rounds of 15 pull ups and 400m run. Two things I despise COMBINED. I don’t have a choice. No point in whining or crying about it. As NIKE tell us… JUST DO IT! They don’t ever say how WELL one must do it though. I surprised myself when I did 10 pullups rather quicklike. But that was all the excitement I got. It was all downhill from there! For the second and third round I did 5 right away and slowly knocked out the other 10. Also remember I don’t DO PULL UPS without assistance. I did use the blue and green band combined. Wah, Wah. These kind of WODS are good for me I know but mentally I just disappoint myself. Time: 12:09

8/9/12 WOD

Hopefully I’ll make it through the day and if I do then maybe I’ll do my evening WOD at the football fields. Not feeling it now but after sitting all day at work and in traffic I may change my mind. Ready for this day to be over, who’s with me? Don’t forget to BE AWESOME.

It’s not that I have writer’s block this time around, but it’s been a busy weekend and I don’t even know where to start. Do I start with today and go backwards or start with Saturday and move forwards? These are the silly little chores that burden me in regards to blogging! What’s my title going to be? Witty? Dull? Straightforward. ARRGGHHH! I’m not a great writer as it is and then to add the other things, it can make one go bonkers. But at the same time it gives me peace. A creative outlet of sorts to get my thoughts straightened out and something for me to reference in my CrossFit/Paleo/whatever you want to call it journey. Also hopefully I provide some sort of “FIT”spiration to you the readers; that if someone as plain and simple as myself can muster up the energy and discipline to work hard consistently and eat clean that you can too. You just have to want it bad enough. I know I do want it!

Which leads to me to today’s WOD. I’ll summarize the weekend afterwards ツ I was dragging more than normal this morning because we were at the Ranger game till later than expected and we left before the game got exciting! They went 13 innings. Thank goodness we left though because I was spent. So spent I almost didn’t get up in time for the BOOM BOX!

7/9/12 WOD

Skill/Strength: 3 x 5 Back Squat +5lbs from previous week. Well I didn’t do Back Squat last week so I added from the week before. Today was 3 sets of 5 at 110lbs. After working up to that weight I was already done! So I struggled on my last reps. I always feel so weak when I struggle so much at a lighter weight. I shouldn’t think that way. My max is 145 and that’s 1 REP…so ya I know but geez I still feel like a weakling!

MetCon: 21, 15, 9 of Overhead Squats (OHS) and Shoulder to Overhead (Push Press for me). The prescribed weight is 65lbs but with my weak ass OHS I went with 55lbs. And it’s weak I promise. My wrists are not made for the OHS at all. And my shoulder flexibility is worthless. I was not looking forward to this at all. And I can tell you that for me it was probably one of the worst MetCons that I have endured. We broke this down into two groups, thank goodness, so we could have a counter. Thank you Martha for counting. I wouldn’t have made it otherwise.

Not me of course, but a good example of OHS.

I don’t even remember how I broke up my OHS for the first round. I think I started off strong with a good number like 10 but then fell apart and knocked them out in 2’s. My wrists were fried and I still had PUSH PRESS to go. I struggled with the first 21 BAD! By the 15’s of the OHS I tried going in 5’s but that didn’t work out so well. I definitely felt better this round and Coach was there in my face so I had a little more to prove and push through. I did the 15 PUSH PRESS UNBROKEN!!!!

Again not me but I figure not everyone knows what all these movements are and pictures always help!

I felt like super woman because my wrists were just losing life and I just blazed through those 15. Only 9 of each to go and I just didn’t know if I could get those OHS completed. I wanted to cry. I knocked out 5, then 4 and saw I was at 9:40 on the time. I tried to get the bar up and move to make it under 10 minutes but I was 5 seconds too slow. Time: 10:05 I then laid (rolled around like a loonball) outside for a good 5 minutes, chugging water, hoping not to die. Although I struggled I felt accomplished. It was tough but it was a tough I needed. I always feel a little more badass when we do MetCons like this.

Weekend Wrap Up
Started off my Saturday morning at the BOOM BOX. Besides work this place gets a lot of my time! It was paint Kettle Bells day. The last time we did this was right before Easter and they were all cute and pastel but that got old fast! So this time we were doing Patriotic KBs, for the 4th and maybe even for the Olympics. I showed up mid painting, so I just stood around, watched and took pics.

Our Patriotic KBs ツ

Triston getting his paint on!

Josh showed up with some Spray Paint skills!

Travis and Kristen trying to find some other letters that we could could “make” look like b’s and o’s for BOOM!

Grant AKA Coach preppin the KBs.

Sherry getting the letters on before the painting begins.

Once everyone else started arriving we got to warming up. We had no idea what was in store for us but it ended up being a WOD I liked. 10 min AMRAP of Power Cleans (my fave)! For this AMRAP we partnered up and were told that we would do 5 cleans each and alternate for the 10 minutes. And then we were told that 5 cleans equaled 1 REP. I was partnered with another Stephanie AKA Briggs and we were set up to do 65lb Power Cleans. I said I love POWER CLEANS but I wasn’t sure if I’d love this AMRAP. My form got sloppy every now and then but for the most part I felt good. I have some bruises on my collar bone, chin and upper thighs. I look like I’ve been brawling. Thank goodness it’s only with a barbell! Briggs and I killed it with 33 reps which in turn ended up being 165 power cleans! And I still had the OLY class afterwards!!!!

OLY Class
We worked on Clean & Jerk and Front Squats after some much needed warm up on the PVC. For the Clean & Jerks we worked at 75% of our MAX. So I worked at 70lbs. We had to do 3 x 1 and take our time. Coach took some video of my first attempt and showed me where I could improve on form. I was already spent from the week’s work and from the power cleans but I took note and corrected. It helps to watch yourself and have someone show you EXACTLY where you went wrong. Most of the time I know something is off but I can’t pinpoint it.

After our Clean & Jerks we worked on getting a Heavy Front Squat. From there we would do 80% of the weight and do 3 x 3. I ended up at 125lbs for my heavy and did my sets of 3 at 100lbs. I was so glad when that last set was done. I was starving and ready to vegge out FOREVER!!! All in all good work put in and I feel stronger and better!

In other news:
We went and saw Savages which I thought was a good movie. I hate to say GREAT because then everyone will tell me how great it wasn’t. I liked it. I like those kinds of movies though. I was entertained! Got my pre-vacay pedicure and then I was out. I was passed out before 8pm! And I slept till 8am! That was a much needed sleep!

Not gonna lie, my eating wasn’t great the past two days. I’m on vacation brain. And it’s still not just crazy out of control but I know myself and I know I’m not sticking to what I know best lately. And that’s clean eating! Two Mondays in a row now that I’ve sabotaged my weekend!!!!! I know I will try to eat clean most of the time I’m out but I also know there are some things I won’t be able to pass up. We stay pretty active on vacation so besides maybe having some post eating ickiness I should be fine in the weight department, it’s just a horrible feeling that here I am trying to be the good example and I’m failing all of us :/

Also if you don’t watch baseball or keep up on sports you should check out the reaction to a GINORMOUS THUNDER/LIGHTNING crash that hit at the Rangers Ballpark last night. We were there and it was insane!

So that’s all folks. It was a busy weekend and I’m hoping this week flies by! Have a reMarkable Monday!

I am SMOKED! And it feels like Monday again, WTH?

Actually it felt like Sunday but I have work so it then felt like a Monday! Two Mondays in one week?!?! Sigh! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. We didn’t do much. Watched the parade, lounged around, cleaned house and ate sub-par. ☠ Below are a couple of parade pics. I’m not a photographer, just an iPhone pic snapper.

I knew I was in for it at the BOOM BOX. Our Skill Strength was 8 x 20 yd Flying Sprints. I know what sprints are but I’ve never heard of flying sprints. I know I don’t have wings so unless Coach had magic fairy dust to help us sprout some I was lost! Ends up you get about 10 yds to build up to FULL ON SPRINT, then you carry that on for 20 seconds. We did 8 rounds and the whole time really focused on good form and good starts. It was a good WAKE UP SHAKE UP.

7/5/12 WOD

MetCon: 15 minute AMRAP of 5 Push Press, 20 Lunges. RX weight was 85lbs and I’m pretty sure my max Push Press is 85lbs so Coach had me work at 65lbs. After looking through the ol’ blog, my push press max is 90lbs. So I’m sure I could have added more weight but I really felt like 65lbs was a good weight when you’re talking about a 15 min AMRAP! The real death blow were the 20 lunges. That’s 20 lunges total, not 20 each leg, THANK GOODNESS but it was still insane. You use your legs quite a bit in the Push Press and combo that with Lunges! You catch on FIRE fast! Literally in round 3 I thought HOW IN THE HELL AM I GOING TO GO MORE and in that thought and thinking of how sucky I ate, I sucked up my inner baby and just went. Somewhere around my 6th round the FIRE disappeared, well it didn’t really disappear but I stopped thinking about it. And I just charged through. 15 minutes is a long time!

Final: 14 rounds 2 Push Press. (Note: I really pushed here. Typically when there’s like 10 seconds left I struggle with getting the bar up and just sit there struggling with the bar till time expires but today I really broke some barriers by getting that bar up and pushing out those 2 presses!)

Bonus: Although it’s not the full lift recorded and it’s only one rep, I did have a video fairy catch part of my Clean & Jerk from last weekend’s OLY Class. You miss the whole “CLEAN” part and just see me coming out of the squat though. Nothing magical here but at least you can see me doing work and I’m not randomly blogging about made up crap 🙂

One week till my much anticipated vacation! And for some reason I’m a glutton for eating bad lately. Is it because I’m on vacation mode already? I have no idea. But I should be on lock down. Eating clean as possible until departure and even through most of vacation. Let me be clear, I haven’t thrown everything out the window and just on EAT mode. Instead I’m ruining it with little things but ruining it none the less. Big SIGH! I’m really trying for this week to just be like I’ve always been: Eat clean 90-95% of the time and not try to sabotage myself! We’ll see how it goes. I really already don’t want to be in swim attire as it is, I know I REALLY won’t want to be if I keep letting the little things ruin my eating!

Happy 2nd Monday folks. Tomorrow is FRIDAY and I’m ready for the weekend!! Be AWESOME!!!

It’s a CHIPPER Tuesday!

NO REALLY… We had a funtastic chipper for our WOD today.

6/12/12 WOD

Yes you read that correctly: 200 Double Unders, 50 Dead Lifts and 30 Push Press. RX weight was 85lbs, but I’m thinking my max is 90lbs so 85 is pushing it. I loaded up 65lbs but Coach was like why don’t you make that 75lbs, so dragging my feet I loaded up 10 more pounds. I was ready to go I suppose.

Anytime there’s a CLOCK and DU’s involved I suddenly suck at DUs. I can string at least 30-40 on any given day, moment or whatever but put a clock on me and I’m toast! I was thinking I’d have 200 done in 3 minutes or so, I’m not really sure about the time that I did finish the DUs, I just know it was more than 3 minutes. Moving on to Dead Lifts was what I was looking forward to and you just don’t imagine DUs smokin your ass so quick. I was doing the DL’s so slow at first and caught myself wondering why I was moving so slow, this is relatively light weight. I did the first 25 pretty slow and then picked up the pace for the last 25. Push Press is what really got me. I would do 2, then 3, then rest, the 5, then 2 more. I was a mess. I didn’t want to drop it because I didn’t want to clean it every time but I just couldn’t hold on to it. I struggled a lot but I pushed past limits which is always the goal right? Time: 14:55

I felt much better after this workout than I did with CINDY from yesterday. Big ol REST day tomorrow which I am thankful. I need rest although tomorrow I will be ants in my pants wanting to workout. Yes I’m sick in the head like that. I love getting a good workout in! But I also know without proper recovery I’ll be screwed.

I know this is short post without much depth but I don’t have anything going on in my noggin right now. Eat clean, work hard, pick up heavy stuff and put it over your head, and do it all the time. It’s a good thing Charlie Brown. I promise. You’ll feel like a badass, you’ll look like a badass and best of all you’ll KNOW you’re a badass!

Turkish TORTURE!

Happy Friday Everyone!

This morning at the BOOM BOX was a downright beating! We started off with Push Press 3 RM. What that means is that we find our MAX weight doing 3 reps. If you only get 2 reps at a certain weight then it’s a FAIL. I made it through 90lbs. Went to lift 95lbs and just lost confidence. I didn’t try again because time was out for making attempts. Last time I did this was back in February. I jumped from 85lbs to 95lbs and failed. I didn’t remember this at the time but I was much smarter and made the smaller step to 90lbs and finished there.

6/8/12 WOD

Metcon: TURKISH GET UPS (aka TURKISH TORTURE) – 40 reps for time. Below is a picture to demonstrate. Up and down is one rep. Goal was to do 20 reps on each arm. I practiced with a 10lb dumbbell and moved up to 12KG (approx 24lbs) Kettle Bell for the workout. I did 5 on each side up to 25, then went back and forth in 2’s. This didn’t end up evenly and I was smoked. This was a no joke kind of MetCon. Long and grueling. Time 20:21

I didn’t have much else to report on. Ernie saved a turtle on the road and we released him at a park pond last night. Kids named him Tubby the Turtle.

This morning I gave this banana pancake a go that I found on the 21-Day Sugar Detox Facebook page. I can’t recall if they posted it or just someone who was doing the detox and came up with it. It wasn’t bad in taste but the consistency was more of a mush if you will. All 3 of my kids liked it but maybe if I use almond flour instead of coconut flour, or less coconut milk or something! Hahah I will have to play around with it. No pics cause it was ugly. And no recipe cause it’s on a post it note at home. Once I perfect it I’ll share 🙂

Also had the good fortune for a photogenic dragonfly who wanted it’s picture taken. He/she was cute. I LOVE dragonflies.

I hope everyone has a GREAT WEEKEND! If you’re local it’s another Community WOD at the BOOM BOX. CrossFit for Hope will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The goal is to raise 1.7MM – one day’s operating cost for St. Jude – to combat childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. Come on out if you can or find a local box near you, there’s a good chance they will be participating.

I hope your weekend is full of ROCK N ROLL and adventure. I leave you with random motivations I found on the interwebs!

Ouchy Mamma! 12.3 and those DARN TOES TO BAR!

I like reporting on the CrossFit Open Games WODs! Too bad it’s short lived and only 2 weeks left after this one. So here goes it. 12.3 consists of 15 Box Jumps (20″), 12 Push Press (75lbs) and 9 Toes to Bar. AMRAP for 18 minutes! Holy Majolie … 18 minutes! 2011 Fittest Woman in the World, Annie Thorisdottir got 13 rounds plus some for a total of 491! But this chica right here got 2 rounds, 15 box jumps and 9 Push press for a score of 96. WOOOOO wow I sucked. But I surprised myself that I could actually finish 2 rounds of Toes to Bars.

3/8/12 CrossFit Games Open 12.3

As always I’m wishing that in my youth I chose gymnastics as my sport of choice. TTB are a ginormous bag of SUCK! And today 75lb push press was heavy… not oh this is a lil heavy today… just heavy. Box Jumps are box jumps but on these you had to show full hip extension at the top. And I can’t forget to mention I NO REPPED my first BOX JUMP! Ha, I’m AWESOME!

Last night looking for hope and help I did watch a video by KStar and Carl Paoli on Perfecting the Box Jump. This was very informative and I wish I could be as knowledgeable as those two! I love them. I’m just not a box jumper right now. Can I do it? Sure! Do I do it well? NOOOO! I will work on the mechanics and the resting at the top but I’m not springy enought to be able to just hop down and freakin kangaroo jump right back up. I have to pause. I lose momentum. I need to WORK on this movement!

I was so spent, wasted, and dead post WOD. I could barely move. So I stuck around long enough to see the 6am class give it a go. Well it was so FUN hanging out cheering everyone on, I stayed for the whole first round of folks participating. Typically I’m out cause I have stuff to do like getting ready for work. But I watched two ladies get their first Toes to Bar (WHICH IS NOT EASY FOR US MERE MORTALS!). And I watched Coach’s MOM KILL IT! She is my HERO. She’s participating in the Master’s Group and she is a fighter. She goes and does not stop. She pushes. Her heart is on that box, bar, etc. The best moment though for me was seeing her hug her son, HER COACH and I don’t know who’s more proud. Maybe I read to much in their embrace but as a Mom, it gave me goosebumps. She’s a CrossFitter and hell for all we know she’ll be at those FINALS come July! Thank you 6am for making me have more gushy love for our BOOM BOX. It’s so much fun!

That’s a wrap! 12.3 is OVER for me at least… maybe not? Should I give it another go? Eh probably not in my best interest. My hands are DONE. My arms are DONE! Speaking of hands, I almost forgot. I got my first LEGITIMATE RIP! Ha… NO I’m not proud cause it hurt like a bleepity bleep bleep! But it is a first!

And in other news… I experimented with a new treat. It came out alright for round 1. Round 2 is tonight which I hope to make perfect. I’ll have pics and links tomorrow. Peace out peeps! Happy Thursday!

Holy SLED PULLS Batman!*$%#*!

I’m a scatterbrained crazy today so I truly apologize in advance if my writing is more nutso or stranger than ever. I don’t even know where to start but I know I’ve been slacking and behind and blah blah blah. That’s what the sickness does to ya. It takes you OUT and now I feel like all I’m doing is playing catch up and I’m NEVER going to catch up! And when this momma bear is down the whole freaking family goes down! I thought they’d pull it together. But I was wrong. Eventually things did happen but it was a mess. Everybody sleeping in, nobody cooking foods, the ship fell apart! ARRRGGHHHH!

So let me start with today and go backwards. Or at least I’ll try to stick with the sloppy in my head outline, no promises people 🙂

Tuesday BOOM BOX was a punch you in the stomach, kick you while your down, lie on the ground wishing you were dead kinda of WOD. Why you ask? Because SLED PULLS are horrible. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned that I’m not fond of the sled and the pulling of weight, and I can assure you that without a doubt I truly wish I never had to pull another sled again. I am worthless!

2/21/12 WOD

We started with a skill/strength of 3 RM (rep max) of push press. I managed to get up 85lbs. The third one wasn’t pretty but I got the job done. I proceeded to 95lbs and really thought somewhere deep I would pull it out but I only got it up like 2 inches if that. An extra 10lbs gets heavy FAST!

Now the SLED PULLS! The MetCon was 6 rounds of 10 Plyo Pushups, 50yd Sled Pull (Sled – 26lbs, Plates – 60lbs = 86lbs!). We have 2 sleds and 5 of us were there this morning. So we just took turns. Each round for time. We did get a 60 to 90 second rest between rounds. It wasn’t long enough!

You get the idea of what we did. One hand on ground, one hand on plate, do pushup then pop up and alternate hands, do pushup, repeat for 10 pushups

What I should look like while pulling sled! This kid has got it down!

The biggest issue I had was at the turnaround point coming back. The parking lot has the slightest incline which felt like a mountain. You wouldn’t even realize there’s an incline until you’re trying to drag something behind you. My times were :56, :55, :58, 1:14, 1:12 and 1:00. Best time goes on board and all I got was :55. I’m slow at push ups and dragging things! I was winded, ready to die, huffing and puffing but now that I’m done, showered, fueled… I FEEL GREAT. So albeit I am at odds with the sled, I do feel good. What can I say? I enjoy torture :/

Yesterday was a little nicer to us. Although OHS are tough. My wrists are weak and fragile and I have a hard time holding weight over my head and keeping balance without feeling like my wrists are on fire. I am getting stronger and better at these but WOW it takes a toll.

2/20/12 WOD

Our MetCon was a nice little TIMED 1 mile run… or so we thought! LOL! Instead of running laps up and a down a hill for a mile which is our typical M.O. we chose to take a longer route. Well our route wasn’t quite exactly 1 mile. In my head I have no idea what a mile feels like. I just know it was cold and windy. So I’m running, hit the turnaround point and just keep running… right into the box and I see 6:21 on the clock! WTH? There is no way I’m that fast! Hahahah… I looked at everyone like this is a joke right? And it wasn’t a joke it just wasn’t a MILE that we ran. Ends up that we ran 1200 M. So I was on pace for what I would run anywhere between 8:06 and 8:30. Not bad for what I consider miserable conditions. Inclines, Wind and Cold! I’m a wussbag I know!

I got my workouts covered so onto the weekend. Saturday was a hot mess of drizzle, rain, wind, cold, etc. Fortunately we spent our time inside the DEATH STAR (aka Dallas Cowboys Stadium) for Supercross. It was unfortunate that it was too icky to walk the pits but we had a good time and I ate plenty of NON PALEO foods. Shame on me. It wasn’t even “GOOD” but I was hungry and didn’t want to go to car for our “packed snacks”. We did happen to win our tickets that morning, well Ernie won the tickets. He won 6 total over two days. But the ones we won that morning were pretty good seats. A very cool underwear company FREEGUN UNDERWEAR had a contest and Ernie won! Between the two of us we tend to win some cool stuff. It makes life a little more fun that way 🙂

Yup we're CHEESEBALLS and ROGUE all at the same time! THANKS FREEGUN!

Besides our errand running, that’s it folks! That’s all I got. Oh and in case I haven’t pushed SHARED Advocare … I sell the stuff. I like it, I use it daily, and I can give you more info if interested. I even got cool little wristbands to rock out.

Believe Begin Become

It’s MARDI GRAS! Happy FAT TUESDAY y’all! I won’t be partaking in the joyous foods and beverages  but CHEERS to those of you that do 🙂 Have a few for me!
