No Words

There are no words to describe what showing up to workout does for my mindset. Even if it’s not at my very best. On Sunday I self-sabotaged and dived into the MSG cesspool of what we all know and love (ok maybe it’s just me) as the Chinese Buffet. A new one popped up near us and it was shiny and new. Why not? Right. There are so many reasons as to why not – mystery meats, mystery sauces, etc.

My stomach grumbled the whole evening, the whole night and straight into the morning. I was not up to par for some Monday morning running at the BOOM Box, SOOOOO I slept in. And I felt it all day. Granted the junk in my body had to filter it’s way through but I just was blah all day. It was noticeable.

This morning however, although I was hurting, I still showed up to CrossFit Boom. I ate my egg whites post workout, I ate my breakfast and I feel so much better. Mentally and physically the fog is lifting and I move forward. When you make working out part of your everyday it’s a big hole in your world when you skip out. Especially after some good rest and recovery.

Now I know some of you dive in, kill yourselves, you can’t move for days and by the time you get back in the gym it’s like starting over. And then you quit! Well it’s a vicious cycle I know. Just the same as eating JUNK. But you have to mentally plow through. Stick with it. Forge on. Don’t get stuck in the excuses people. I for one like to get stuck in them and KNOW this about myself already. It’s really all about self awareness and rising above what brings you down. I have learned personally since my completion of the Whole30 that I can’t be a one foot in, one foot out kind of person. I sway to much to the one foot that is on the outside. So last night, I said enough is enough and I got back on the cooking train. I made plenty of veggies to help me through the week. I have my proteins defrosting. Now I just need to get some bone broth back in my arsenal and all will be well in the world!

2/23/13 WOD
OoooEeeee, this was going to be work. And it was one of those crawl back in bed mornings. Coach could read it in all our bodies and faces. It was a drag ass start. But we finally got into it.

Skill/Strength: 15 minutes to establish a 1RM of the barbell complex:
1 Clean
3 Front Squats
1 Jerk
3 Back Squats
1 Behind the Neck Jerk

It’s been a while since I’ve done any sort of complex. You don’t realize how much it takes out of you. I wasn’t in any hurry to jump up to big weight and I wanted to really focus. I worked my way up to 95lbs. I really should have got 105lbs but I was having that whole drop under the bar issue in Cleaning the bar. And 105 is a weight I know I can do. It’s yet to be pretty, but I can Clean it. But I feel I did alright. Nothing amazeballs but I felt good.

MetCon: 3 rounds 14 CTB, 7 Snatches (full squat) 135/85#
I don’t have Pull Ups so we all know I’m not doing Chest To Bar. I choose banded Pull Ups… as if i have a choice! And Snatches. Over time I’ve learned not to dread this movement but I still have a ways to go in technique. I stuck with 55lbs for this WOD. It was a good weight for me to move quickly and still have good form. I knocked out the Pull Ups easier than I have in the past… is this Progress knocking at my door? Yes I think so! My first round of Snatches were a little sloppy. I was not keeping the bar close enough to my body. Once I corrected that I was on a roll. My 2nd and 3rd round of Pull Ups didn’t go as easily as the first round. But my Snatch got better. My forearms were spent but overall I felt good. Time: 11:01

2/26/13 WOD
Like I mentioned previously, It was nice to just show up even though I didn’t have the best performance. It was extra cold and windy this morning and everything was achy!

Skill/Strength: Pull Ups
I can’t complain. I need to get better. You can’t get better without working on it and so many of the BOOM ladies are knocking these out like they are easy or something! Pull Up land is waiting for me. I feel like I’m getting there. Still slow as a snail but I’m getting there.

MetCon: CrossFit Games Open WOD 12.5 – 7 minute AMRAP of 3 Thrusters, 3 CTB, 6 Thrusters, 6 CTB, 9 Thrusters, 9 CTB, etc.
The RX for Thrusters was 65lbs. Shouldn’t be a problem. But into my 2nd round, I had a pinch in my shoulder that hurt like bloody hell. I couldn’t push past it so I dropped the weight to 55lbs. The pain didn’t go away but I stuck with it. Hoping it’s just inflammation from the Buffet Indulgence. Again, with the Pull Ups I felt I had a little more in me than I have in the past. My shoulder however really was hindering me. Total Reps: 48 :/ I did better last year but I wasn’t in pain last year. I took a lot of time standing around. I feel confident I could have done much better had I not taken the time to switch weight, stand around in pain, etc. I made sure to do some hurts so good mobility afterwards. Hoping that helps in the long run.

That’s it for this Beautiful Tuesday. I’m hoping this week stays strong and positive! Stay focused. Drop the Excuses and as always be AWESOME!

Work, Rest, More Work, Breathe

breathe

Last week was hectic and as I told you all, I was worn out. I couldn’t manage to roll out of bed Friday morning so I skipped out on the Boom Box. I was feeling better by the middle of the day and decided I would hit up an evening class. So glad I did. I needed it. Working out is mostly a LOVE relationship, but sometimes it’s a Love/Hate kind of thing because when you are so worn out and you don’t show up then you feel like crap for not getting that work out in! It’s not very fun. But in the end you know you need the rest. After my workout on Saturday, I declared a do nothing kind of day. That is do nothing after the boys had baseball practice! They would be gone the rest of the day. Ernie would be gone the rest of the day. So I caught up on my DVR and slept… ALOT! It was good I needed it. On the downside, I let the cakeballs get the best of me! DAMN YOU CAKEBALLS! I made sure I cleared them out by inhaling them though. There are no more living in our house. All is back to normal. May the clean eating resume. The open is near, and although I won’t be even close to the top ladies in our region I don’t want to feel like POO when doing the open WODS. Cakeballs! Grrr 😀

2/15/13 WOD
Skill/Strength: Deadlift 3 x 3 @ 85%
I’ve never felt so good doing Deadlifts. So I’m happy to say that I feel progress in this movement. Besides my hands feeling like they are on fire, I’m not having many issues with getting the weight off the ground. Working up to 170lbs was good and doing my 3 sets of 3 were feeling really good. Hopefully a nice PR is coming up!

2/15/13 WOD

2/15/13 WOD

MetCon: 15, 12, 9 of Wall Balls and Chest To Bar
So I’m a little more flexible at the end of the day than I am at 5 am. So Wall Balls although brutal aren’t as bad on the hips in the P.M. My shoulders were not too happy with me in general but I got the job done better than I have been in the past. It’s the damn Pull Ups that still get me! Time 7:02

2/6/13 WOD
Oh holy crap, you want me to run when it’s in the 30s and you want me to run a mile coach! I really really didn’t want to show up to the BOOM Box on a Saturday morning to run but of course I couldn’t punk out. I’ve been progressing it is true in most things but running is not one of them. And everyone else’s progression is on FAST TRACK or something so I have to catch up with the group! I know, I know, it’s me vs. me but still. You see so many folks getting PRs and it’s great and awesome for them. But here I am not getting PRs or fast tracking it. So ya, I reluctantly showed up!

2/16/13 WOD

2/16/13 WOD

Skill/Strength: Front Squats EMOM for 7 minutes. 2 reps with a 3 second pause at the bottom @ 75% of our 1 RM
I haven’t tested for Front Squat in a very long time, so 75% for me was 100lbs. Coach was sure I could do more so we upped it a whopping 5lbs. By the end of the 7 minutes I could feel those 5lbs! It kind of feels good to hold the squat at the bottom for a couple of seconds. I’m not sure exactly what pauses do for you mechanically or in terms of getting stronger, but I trust they are good for you.

MetCon: Run 1 mile, 50 Power Cleans (75lbs), 30 HSPU
Running! Booooo! I started off on a slow but steady pace. My right shin is still pretty beat up so I felt that for a while with every step I took. but 2/3 of the way back my left calf and shin decided to speak up and well they were LOUD. My jog became a slow trot. It was horrible. Again another poor run performance. Something in the 11 minute mark. Everyone had been back and busting through those Cleans! I didn’t do the 75lbs, because I’m a wuss and thought I wouldn’t be able to do 50. Turns out I probably should have/could have. I caught up pretty quickly after being so behind on the run. I still don’t execute HSPU very well without being modified so I did them off the box. And that turned out to be surprisingly easy. I’m somewhere in the middle, I suppose. Which is great! HSPUs here I come! Time: 16:34

02/18/13 WOD
Whew, finally made it to this morning! It was a humid one for us, thankfully NO MetCon today! Wooooo! Eh, I do like MetCons but working on strength is fun too.

Skill/Strength: Overhead Mobility, Pull-Up Mechanics
We did some bar torture and some PVC work with Overhead Squat Mechanics. We then worked on kipping. I am tight. My upper back, shoulders and whatever else that can be tight is TIGHT! It is no fun. On the bright side of everything hurting I forget my hands hurt so I felt a little stronger when it comes to kipping. I feel a little more coordinated and hopefully I’ll get some form of a pull up SOON.

2/18/13 WOD

2/18/13 WOD

OHS 3, 3, 3, 3, 3
It’s been a long while since I’ve worked on my Overhead Squats. A long while. So I wasn’t sure what weight to start at and what weight I should end with. I decided to warm up to 65lbs. I was feeling good. I jumped from 65lbs to 75lbs because I was trying to get to 90lbs for my final set. 90lbs is my current 1RM. So I figured if I got that then I would be set for a nice PR in the future. 75lbs is where it got heavy though! Not really heavy but painful on the wrists. EVEN with my strength wraps :/ But I still went on and knocked out 80 and 85lbs. Instead of going for 90lbs, I went for 95lbs. Got the Bar overhead and panicked. I hesitated just thinking about squatting and it was an immediate MENTAL fail! Ah well. Maybe next time!

As far as food goes, it hasn’t been AWESOME but I’ve had some good moments. Like I said earlier, the CrossFit Games Open is coming up fast and I need to dial it back in with my eating. I don’t want to suck at everything more so than I already do because my eating is out of whack. So I’m reeling all the slip ups in and putting my Whole30 discipline back into action. Crossing my fingers I stick with it 😀

Leave me a comment if you are interested in the Whole30 or have questions. Nutrition is key when trying to find good health and fitness. Not only does eating clean make you feel better in general it completely makes working out that much easier. As I routinely say, you NEED to make a CHANGE. Whether it’s jumping in the deep end of the pool or taking BABY steps like cutting out crazy beverages and just taking in Water. Make a CHANGE in your life. Without it you will always be stuck in your rut.

Other than that, let’s hope this Monday doesn’t end up crazy. Have a great day and of course MAKE IT AWESOME!

Mondays Still Suck BUT I GOT RANGER FEVER!

It was especially hard to get up this morning. After having a tragically disgusting toilet issue in our home last night, sleep came and went just fine but I just didn’t feel rested. The whole weekend was just that way. I slept but that rested feeling wasn’t the outcome. Hopefully it’s just a bump in the road and the week will get better.

Today was MONDAY through and through at the BOOM Box this morning. I was feeling weak during the Skill/Strength which was Front Squats. I know it’s part of it, just lettin you know I was feeling the weaksauce. I still did my part and pushed the best I could so it’s all well and fine.

4/9/12 WOD

The MetCon was another 12 minute AMRAP. I think 12 is Coach’s favorite number lately! So in 12 minutes you did as many rounds as possible of 5 pull ups, 10 air squats and 15 lunges. I know I’ve learned my lesson in thinking that could be an “easy” workout but I’m sure some of you out there are thinking that’s not so hard. Piece of cake! Right? Well you should give it a whirl. You could easily do this at a local park or at home if you have a pull up bar. Even at your GLOBO GYM. Just try it out. Hopefully you’ll push yourself and find out that it’s a doozy! I completed 9 rounds and got 4 pull ups into the next round. I also didn’t completely FAIL at pullups which is normal for me. I was pretty stoked about that. I felt pretty beat down and pretty good all at the same time. After feeling weak during Front Squats I feel like I really pushed through on the MetCon. So yay for ending on a good note.

As far as RANGER FEVER goes man oh man I have it more than ever. Since I was a kid I’ve always gone to games. We were reminiscing about those good times yesterday while eating our Easter meal with family. I was just a kid and the Rangers were not so good but we always had a good time. Now I’m grown, the RANGERS are more than not so good, THEY ARE AWESOME. They have one of the best teams out there right now in all aspects. MY TEXAS RANGERS are freaking HOT! After coming off the World Series highs and lows of last year I’m still on a Ranger high. Listening to the sportscasters talking about the team and how much fun they appear to have and how united they all seem gives me goosebumps. You can see it in the dugout, in the interviews the players give and you can feel it in the stadium. It’s magical. Baseball is MAGICAL!

Looking forward to seeing Yu Darvish make his season debut. I have good feelings about him, hopefully I’m right. Definitely wishing I could afford season tickets. One day I will, but for now it will be TV and the occasional game throughout the season.

Just so ya know, I’m not planning on making my blog a recap of games or anything (at least that’s not the plan), but YOU will probably get a few of these Ranger Fever moments from me. The season is long and I know it will not always be pretty but since I’m documenting bits and pieces of my life I might as well share a little bit of everything.

WTH was I thinking? PiZza?!?!?!

I will begin with my Paleo FAIL-EO first then bounce all around from that point! It all began Saturday after the Boom Beasts finished the 12.5 WOD. We all go to Texas Roadhouse for a celebratory CrossFit Games Open IS OVER lunch. I know Ernie and Coach are going to partake in badness and I truly thought I would hold strong.

That lasted 2 minutes maybe 3 minutes. As soon as HOT ROLLS hit the table I was out for the count. Kudos to Jess and Annette for holding strong! But that wasn’t the end of my indulgences. I went on to have pizza at BJs Brewhouse later that day.

And even later had chips and ranch dip as well… and er uhmmm cookies! I was indeed trying to put myself into a food induced coma. It was bad, all sorts of bad and it all left me with an upset stomach and took me out cold. It was like passing out from drinking too much. And let me tell you alcohol did cross our mind but we held back. Over a year of no booze, we didn’t cross that line! Besides having a stomach ache, I was extra bloated and heavy feeling even up till today. It’s not worth it people. I don’t know why I even tried. I thought I learned my lesson on Christmas, apparently I did not. Was it good? Ya it was good. Was it GREAT? Not really. Do I regret? At first I didn’t but today I really do. But I feel better getting it out there. It’s done, It’s over and it’s time to eat clean and start over!

Now that confession time is over I want to talk about Hunger Games. After days of deciding if I should take my 12 year old to the midnight premiere of Hunger Games I finally bit the bullet and bought the tickets. We arrived at 9pm to an already seated theater with all the good seat disappearing. Good thing we got there at 9 (thanks Ernie). I had planned on going at 10 and we would have had crappy seats. I’m not going to give a movie review because well I’m not a movie critic. I read the books and I thought the movie did the books justice. I’ve read and heard mixed reviews. If anyone thinks a movie can catch all the detail of a book they will surely always be disappointed. There’s not enough time to explain the details the book will have to offer. I thought they did great and I enjoyed every minute of the movie! Go watch it! But first read the books.

With me being an old maid and not getting home till 3am I wasn’t about to pretend to go to my 5 am workout or even go to work. So I took kids to school, came back home, and took a nap. I arranged to get my WOD in at 1pm which was GREAT! I wish I could hit up the box at 1 in the afternoon all the time. I forgot to take a picture of the board because I wasn’t in my normal routine. I just plain ol forgot. We weren’t putting our efforts on the board anyways so maybe that’s why I really forgot! Hehe. It was TABATA of craziness though. So we had to do 4 rounds of burpees. What does that mean? 20 seconds of burpees, 10 sec rest, 20 seconds on, 10 sec rest. Then we moved on to 4 rounds on the AIRDYNE bike. If you’ve never had the privilege of working on this little GEM of equipment let me tell you IT SUCKS! It burns, it hurts, I had not very nice names for the airdyne. And in the 2 minutes I had to endure it I barely burned 31 calories. That was the goal 30 calories in the 2 minutes. It sucked! We then moved onto ROWING… as if my body isn’t dead already. I missed out on the calorie mark we were supposed to hit till after I did my turn. I missed it by 1 calorie! I’ll take it in my extra calorie on the bike. And then it was onto to 4 rounds of DU’s. My first go was 28 and it was downhill from there. My legs had no bounce. So in our little 8 minutes of hell we got a lot of work in. It was good and hell I had the rest of the day off. Can’t really be complaining now can I? 😀

That evening it was baseball time for us. Two kids playing at the same time – Different fields. We had one team lose and the other team win to move on in the tournament. So instead of hitting my Saturday morning workouts I was at the baseball fields. Our first year hodge podge team pulled off a win and they now play in the championship game tomorrow night! WOOOHOOOO, GO CUBS! I have to boast a little bit about Justice as he held his composure Friday night and lasted 4 innings pitching allowing only 2 runs. It was awesomeness. I’m a proud mama for sure!

So with all the busy and all the bad eating that leaves me to today. MONDAY morning WOD at the BOOM BOX! Front Squat 1 RM and 5 rounds of 12 Deadlifts and 6 Front Squats with weight that is 50% of our Front Squat 1 RM. Make sense? I hope so!

3/26/12 WOD

If we’ve done a front squat max then I failed to record it and/or I have forgotten. So we started from scratch. Worked my way up to 135lbs. I failed at 140 and I feel that somewhere inside of me I may have been able to get that weight up I just sat at the bottom instead of exploding up. I didn’t try again as we get pressed for time, maybe with some oly shoes I would have pulled it off! Hehe, who knows. I truly do think I got to 135 due to the fact that I finally ordered STRENGTH WRAPS as suggested by a wonderful CrossFit buddy. Thanks Sally! THESE BAD BOYS are awesome and NOT ONCE did I feel pain in my wrists! I suggest if you have any wrist issues that you get some ASAP! I have yet to test them out with OHS or snatch but just helping in the front squat changed my world. I do really hope that they help in my other lifts. It’s such a simple idea using those wraps and makes a world of difference. LOVE THEM! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM! www.strengthwraps.com

Onto the MetCon. Using half the weight of our Front Squat seemed fairly doable. I have learned that it will never be easy but 70lbs at DL and front squat is doable, right? The catch was DON’T drop the bar or you owe 3 burpees right then and there. SO now added pressure! ARGH! Dropping the bar between lifts can’t happen, will I survive? WHY YES, YES I WILL! I didn’t drop that bar once! I held onto it even though I badly wanted to let go. By the 5th round noises were coming out of me that would scare babies and the elderly. But I finished, NO BURPEES – Time 5:11! It felt good to not have sore wrists and to finish strongly!

Post MetCon I worked on pull ups and DUs. I’m bound and determined to get that damn pull up! I will get it and I will get it soon.

Happy Happy Monday! Hope you have a great start to your week! And thanks for sticking with me to till the end of this long and random post 🙂

The Mondays

I have a bad case of it. It most likely stems from the fact it’s spring break and I have to be at work while my kiddos get a week off from school. They always ask if I get spring break too but every year I have to disappoint them and say NO I don’t get days off like that. I have to “earn” my vacation by weekly accrual. So that’s no fun. Traffic was light so that helps but I definitely have a bad case of the Mondays! So bad I didn’t even want to hit up the BOOM Box for my WOD, but Ernie reminded me “if you want to get better, you can’t skip”. TRUE STORY!

Unwillingly I drove myself to the box. I was much better after I got stretched and warmed up. But I wasn’t quite ready for the mile run that was slated for the day. I HATE RUNNING. All you regulars know this and what a way to start off the week. ARGH! Before we hit up running we did Front Squats Deload. That wasn’t so bad. Still killer on the wrists but we did 5 (60lbs), 5 (65lbs) and 5 (70lbs). It went by pretty quickly and I’m happy to report I didn’t have any aches, tightness, etc. holding me back. It was also a light load so who knows.

3/12/12 WOD

Time for the run came too quickly. And today I was slower than normal. I just wasn’t feeling it. I know we all have those days but I was still disappointed in my time considering I’ve been keeping a mile between 8:10 and 8:30 and this morning it was 8:49! WTH! Slokey Pokey. But at least it’s done for the day. And hopefully we don’t have to run for a while! Hehehe. I’ll never enjoy running. And the day I do, y’all know it will be some kind of serious voodoo magic that came over me!

Our weekend consisted of more CrossFit with the Saturday Funday at the BOX. WE seem to always do a team WOD which is always ends up being a good time. I’m not sure everyone else agrees with me in that it’s a good time. There’s just something deranged about me that I enjoy all the working out! We had to do 3 rounds of 400 m run, 42 KB swings and 24 pullups. It’s so much easier when you share the load of the workout between 3 people! Except we all had to run the 400m :/ BOOOO! Hehehe. We then stick around and cheer on the remaining BOOM BEASTS to take on The CrossFit Games Open WOD. We are already done with 12.3! Only 2 left! Everyone did great. I wish I was more BEASTLY already so I could be competitive amongst the ranks. Coach mentioned this morning…. 2 weeks until we’re done and ready to train for next year! Ha, I need 3 a days or even 4 a days to make that possible! Maybe I’ll finally win that lottery and I’ll make CrossFit my job!

That will just have to be a dream for now as I don’t see that coming to fruition anytime soon! Hopefully my Monday doesn’t drag on forever and I hope yours doesn’t either. Have a good one!

I HEART MY BOX!

After one of our FUNDAY SATURDAYS! BOOM TEAM!

For those of new to this blog… When I say BOX I am referring to my CrossFit Box – CrossFit BOOM! We have built such a great little family and it continues to grow. This past week and weekend we all came together to smack CrossFit Games Open 12.1 WOD in the face! Mine was more of a tickle instead of a slap but we definitely had some beast mode moments from our Boom Team!

The camaraderie amongst us is amazing! The support, the jokes, and the laughs we have are fantastic. You’re at the point of passing out sometimes (what am I saying… ALWAYS) and there is always someone there to cheer you on to help get you through.

This past Saturday was an open box and then 12.1 WOD time for those who needed judging. We had some newcomers and they took on the funday WOD like champs. My partner and I took first place as we did a team event. 3 teams of 2 doing 3 rounds of 1 minute each of diamond situps, KB Swings, and Wall Balls. My teammate Donna KILLED it. I’m pretty sure she didn’t feel that she did, but she did fantastic. I love to see new people. 9 minutes of misery but we all live and get to high five and chat afterwards. It’s a good feeling.

Coach Grant measuring the "ROOF". We got hell from CrossFitters after a pic of our roof made it to the CrossFit Games facebook page. But we also got a lot of kudos. I assure you it was safe and there weren't any concerns on whether it was or not!

Coach Grant gettin after it! The "roof" was a mat so it was light weight and didn't budge as it was weighted down.

So enough of my ooshy gooshiness. On to today’s WOD.

Front squats for skill/strength. 5, 3, 1+. I did a warm up with just the bar then jumped up to 75 lbs and started my 5 reps. It seemed light today. Maybe because I had a fantastic massage yesterday or maybe just because I’m getting stronger. Maybe my crazy strange love for CrossFit intensified after the first Open WOD, who knows. But it felt light. I Hope my coach isn’t reading! LOL, he’ll make me pay tomorrow! Then moved onto 80lbs for 3 reps and onto 85lbs for 19 REPS – YAH BUDDY! It’s taken a while for me to get “strong” but I’m getting there. And today I feel I really pushed those last 4-5 reps out. It took a lot out of me. Probably time to test a new PR… maybe? maybe not, hehe.

2/27/12 WOD

The MetCon had pullups, yay fun! 😦 Not really but I had a little more endurance today than I normally have. I managed to do 8 in a row (with bands) for the round 1 and 2 but typically I could do 5 or 6 then break. So again, getting there which makes me happy! Then after 8 pullups it was 60ft of lunges. AMRAP for 12 minutes. I got 8 rounds and 8 pullups! I got halfway to one length of the lunges but it didn’t count because I didn’t complete it. Ah well, I tried! And fell over as the timer went off, hehehe. I’ve never left the box without just lying on the ground post WOD. I’m beat. And I keep bringing myself back for more! I have issues! But they lead to good results.

Happy Monday ya’ll! I’m starting the 24 day challenge this week as well to help clean my system out. Let me know if you’re interested!

See y’all tomorrow unless life gets to much in the way 🙂

Beef, Milk and Is This Month Going to Ever End?

It seems like January will last FOREVER! We are stuck in this month. 2012 is dragging it’s butt! I am, however, quite pleased with the pleasant temperatures that we’ve been having. And I do truly FEAR February as it is quite unpredictable in regards to the weather. And all I can say is that Texas folks don’t fair well in icy conditions. The roads become a HOT mess!

But back to the nice weather. WE had a sunny and beautiful weekend. We get bouts of spontaneity and we decided to take a little field trip about 30 miles south of us to a nice little place by the name of Burgandy Boucherie.

Burgandy Boucherie

Farm Fresh Eggs (Ernie was excited there was a feather included)

They claim that they are the first and only exclusively pastured meats butcher market in the D/FW area. I have not researched this claim but I believe them 🙂 The place was stocked with a great variety of grass fed beef cuts both fresh and frozen. They also carry chicken, lamb and pork. In addition to their meats they also had fresh farm eggs, cheese, local honey, Himalayan salt and a few other goods. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. And on the weekends you can order up hamburgers. They have several picnic tables in the boucherie for you to enjoy your meal. We were very pleased first time customers! I have yet to try any of the meats but we thawed out some ground beef for tonight’s dinner.

While we were at the boucherie we asked if they provided raw milk and some law doesn’t allow them to sell both but they referred to a few places. We chose the one closest to where we were at and by the recommendation of another customer. We headed a few miles south and ended up at Rosey Ridge Farms.

RAW MILK - YUMMO

Michievous Pig at Rosey Ridge Farms (they say he likes to escape often)

Being city folk we weren’t sure we were in the right place as there was just a few farm houses, cows, and horses on this dirt road our GPS led us to. We called to confirm we were in the right spot and they assured us we were and of course we finally spotted their sign! Go figure! We were a little bit in culture shock because we are clueless to country/farm living but it was quite the experience. The Hooley family was very nice and patient with us thankfully because we asked a lot of questions. Silly and serious. It was fun. Their milk is straight from the cow. No pasteurization, no homogenization, no hormones, antibiotics… NOTHING. Fresh MILK! We were anxious to get home and give it a try. Is this Paleo… NO not according to some but we still like our milk so we still buy milk. It’s not an every meal kind of thing. We add it to protein shakes, kids drink it with pancakes, etc. So before I get anyone out trying to be smart, I’m letting you know AGAIN, we are not on point 100% of the time. But we aim to eat clean, whole foods and keep it simple. Paleo 80%, 100% of the time.

I really failed in the photo op dept. I am sorry and I promise on our next visit I will be less in the moment and more in the snapshot mode. If you’re in the DFW area, I encourage you to take a weekend drive out to Grandview, TX. I wish I had brought my kids to see everything and I’m certain I will take them on our next trip out that way.

Now for this moring and my WOD. It was a simple day at the BOX, which I find really nice. We rarely have simple so it was a nice treat. My upper body is still beat up from last week. We started out with front squats which I can honestly say are not my favorite. But I did alright. My wrist/forearm flexibility still could use some work. I did struggle a little with just holding the bar but after a few attempts and experimenting with hand placement I got a little more comfortable with holding the bar. We did 5, 5, 5+ and I managed to get 12 reps at 80lbs on my last set. Which is pretty amazeballs because I’m not so strong on the front squats. So I should have a new PR sooner than later.

01/30/12 WOD

The MetCon was 6 50 yd sprints with 90 seconds of rest in between. Not so bad. I’m not a sprinter but I put forth my best efforts.

That’s it. The End. Happy Monday.

1000+ Views!

I finally made it to 1000 views…plus some! It’s a good feeling. I watch the stats like a psychotic person. I don’t know why I’m so addicted to seeing how many people have viewed this blog. I know there are blogs that get more than that in one day and well I’m just not there so I will take my stats and embrace them! LOL, I don’t know that I’ll ever be “cool” enough to get that many views a day :/

1/16/12 WOD

Had a good WOD today. Short, sweet and tough! We worked on Front Squats and my 1 RM was 115. I was really hoping I could get more but not today.
And for the MetCon… box jumps and straight legged sit ups… 30 seconds for each movement for 5 rounds. The first round was good and I slacked on the second round for some reason. Grant reminded us this was a sprint workout so I got on it and started moving… now wishing I didn’t slack on my 2nd round. But I did so I just had to push the rest of the way through. 120 reps total. Not bad but I know I could have had a few more reps.

WHEAT BELLY - WILLIAM DAVIS, MD

You all know I strive for Paleo and push to eat as clean as possible and discourage grains. I follow several blogs and what not that are Paleo and advise against grains including the Wheat Belly Blog but I had yet to read the actual book. This weekend we bought it and I tore through it. It’s not a long read so that was nice but there was a lot of information on what Wheat does to us. I feel assured that wheat and gluten are the enemy to everyone not just to those with celiac or other gluten intolerances. I don’t want to give you a book report because I think it’s important for you to read and soak it up for yourself. But if you are wishy washy on the issue or don’t even have a clue, then I highly recommend reading it. And at least try giving up all GRAINS, not just wheat, for 30 days. See if it changes you. You will go through a withdrawl of sorts, at least you probably will, it may last 2 days and it may last up to a week or 2 but you should just TRY. And don’t replace your GRAINS with junk… just eat more meats, veggies and fruits. If you don’t feel great and more awesome than ever then go back to your gluten filled ways. It won’t bother me one bit 🙂 Let me know if you do it or plan on doing it. Let me know if you need support or have questions. It’s tough mentally to remove the grains but in reality it’s not that hard if you’re willing to make the change.

I know that after reading the information in the book I am good without the “yummy” things that are made with wheat. Wheat Belly by William Davis, MD! Buy it! It’s good.

Happy Monday, MLK day, etc. Enjoy your day whether you have the day off or have to work it like I do… make it a happy day 🙂
