Workin the Weakness

By now all of you faithful readers should know that Running+Stephanie = crying, whining, resistance and suck. If you’re new then just know that it’s true. Since my journey of getting into better health started in February 2011 I went from running an 11:47 mile to 8:36 mile and I even thought I had as fast as 8:08 but I can’t find it recorded anywhere so I may have had a dream about it! So I’ll stick with my 8:36 mile that I recorded December 13, 2011. Now at the BOOM BOX our “mile” is full of one slow incline and one more immediate incline and I struggle even on the easier home stretch. In March I recorded an 8:49 mile and today I recorded an 8:42 mile. So I know I’m at least in the 8 minute timeframe still. It’s still better than I was almost 17 months ago. I really felt like I RAN better than normal on this mile but my time was only 7 seconds better. Thank goodness I ran with Melinda. I’m sure I would have slowed my roll if I was on my own! Ah well. I’m not REALLY TRYING to be a better runner per se because I’m not practicing running outside of being told to run so it’s no surprise I’m not jumping leaps and bounds in getting faster. I wish I could be one of those people who enjoyed running, I just haven’t found love for it as of yet. Still searching for it.

7/6/12 WOD

Our MetCon was another weakness of mine. BOX JUMPS. This is more of a mental weakness than a physical weakness. The prescribed box height was 30″ and for some reason that scares the shit out of me. I see the box, I know I can clear the height but it’s just not happening. So we put a 45lb bumper plate on a 24″ box making it a 28″ jump. I was hesitant at first but finally got up there. Now I was going to have to do 5 on the minute for 10 minutes. After running I wasn’t sure my legs would last but they did. I finished each set within 17-30 seconds a little scared the whole time. But at least I did it. And I know the repetition helps in the long run. I definitely feel more confident jumping on the bumper plates. Now if I could just be fearless when it comes to jumping on or even off of stuff in general!

My legs are fried after yesterday’s 280 lunges and I’m walking around all gimpish. It sucks. I’ve iced. I’ve rolled out. I’m just in pain 😦 I’ll get over it!

Tomorrow is a Community WOD at the BOOM BOX. Get a jump start on the weekend and come hang with us. It’s FREE! I also have an OLY class tomorrow which I really need so it should be a great morning. I foresee lots of ice and rest this evening! Not sure what weekend adventures we’ll have but you never know with us!

Have a good weekend. Don’t melt in the heat. Do something fun! And as always BE AWESOME!!!

I am SMOKED! And it feels like Monday again, WTH?

Actually it felt like Sunday but I have work so it then felt like a Monday! Two Mondays in one week?!?! Sigh! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. We didn’t do much. Watched the parade, lounged around, cleaned house and ate sub-par. ☠ Below are a couple of parade pics. I’m not a photographer, just an iPhone pic snapper.

I knew I was in for it at the BOOM BOX. Our Skill Strength was 8 x 20 yd Flying Sprints. I know what sprints are but I’ve never heard of flying sprints. I know I don’t have wings so unless Coach had magic fairy dust to help us sprout some I was lost! Ends up you get about 10 yds to build up to FULL ON SPRINT, then you carry that on for 20 seconds. We did 8 rounds and the whole time really focused on good form and good starts. It was a good WAKE UP SHAKE UP.

7/5/12 WOD

MetCon: 15 minute AMRAP of 5 Push Press, 20 Lunges. RX weight was 85lbs and I’m pretty sure my max Push Press is 85lbs so Coach had me work at 65lbs. After looking through the ol’ blog, my push press max is 90lbs. So I’m sure I could have added more weight but I really felt like 65lbs was a good weight when you’re talking about a 15 min AMRAP! The real death blow were the 20 lunges. That’s 20 lunges total, not 20 each leg, THANK GOODNESS but it was still insane. You use your legs quite a bit in the Push Press and combo that with Lunges! You catch on FIRE fast! Literally in round 3 I thought HOW IN THE HELL AM I GOING TO GO MORE and in that thought and thinking of how sucky I ate, I sucked up my inner baby and just went. Somewhere around my 6th round the FIRE disappeared, well it didn’t really disappear but I stopped thinking about it. And I just charged through. 15 minutes is a long time!

Final: 14 rounds 2 Push Press. (Note: I really pushed here. Typically when there’s like 10 seconds left I struggle with getting the bar up and just sit there struggling with the bar till time expires but today I really broke some barriers by getting that bar up and pushing out those 2 presses!)

Bonus: Although it’s not the full lift recorded and it’s only one rep, I did have a video fairy catch part of my Clean & Jerk from last weekend’s OLY Class. You miss the whole “CLEAN” part and just see me coming out of the squat though. Nothing magical here but at least you can see me doing work and I’m not randomly blogging about made up crap 🙂

One week till my much anticipated vacation! And for some reason I’m a glutton for eating bad lately. Is it because I’m on vacation mode already? I have no idea. But I should be on lock down. Eating clean as possible until departure and even through most of vacation. Let me be clear, I haven’t thrown everything out the window and just on EAT mode. Instead I’m ruining it with little things but ruining it none the less. Big SIGH! I’m really trying for this week to just be like I’ve always been: Eat clean 90-95% of the time and not try to sabotage myself! We’ll see how it goes. I really already don’t want to be in swim attire as it is, I know I REALLY won’t want to be if I keep letting the little things ruin my eating!

Happy 2nd Monday folks. Tomorrow is FRIDAY and I’m ready for the weekend!! Be AWESOME!!!

Good Eats, Sweeties and Happy 4th!

Well Well Well… I gave into the sugar monster hardcore last night but right before that I ate some delicious food from the Woodshed Smokehouse in Fort Worth. If you haven’t been and you love meat then this place should be your next stop. I’ve heard good things but nothing ever specific and I had been wanting to go for a while now. Chef Tim Love’s menu has something for everyone and everything is a unique flavor combo of foods I would never had imagined. Of course I’m no chef nor am I a foodie.

WOODSHED SMOKEHOUSE

We ventured out that way for my dad’s 61st Birthday and it seemed like it would be a nice laid back atmosphere and that is exactly what it ended up being. We weren’t sure what to eat and our server nicely explained all of our options. They offer big family type meals but we opted to go for smaller plates so we could sample a variety of foods. Our dinner was comprised of Smoked Whitefish Dip (good stuff); Brisket Stuffed Piquillo Peppers, Bone Broth & Cotij (YUMMO); Elk Sausage (Good); Animal of the Day Tacos which was Lamb (Not a big fan of lamb but it was good); Local Acorn Squash, Tuaca, Dark Brown Sugar, Smoked Pepper Hollandais (sweet and tasty); 3 Kale Salad (BEST KALE SALAD EVER); Woodshed Burger, Chopped Beef, Todays Sausage (ELK), Smoked Cheddar; Pork Ribs; Bulgogi Beef, House Kimchi Tacos; and Baked Potato. Now I didn’t eat the Burger, Ribs, Bulgogi Tacos or the Baked Potato but I was told they were good. My kids were like little scavengers picking up any inkling of crumb or missed bite. All of our food came out cooked perfectly and really tasty. Loads of unique flavors as well. I feel like you can’t go wrong in ordering. Everything tasted wonderful. Below are some pics. They aren’t the best but you get the idea of what’s going on.

3 Kale Salad

Sausage of the Day (ElK), Animal of the Day (Lamb) Tacos (Chiles stuffed with brisket on the top edge of pic, I didn’t get a good pic of those)

Acorn Squash

It’s perfect for families or just a group of friends hanging out for some drinks. It’s a big patio with indoor and outdoor seating. Reservations are recommended. Although not jam packed, it was still busy for a Monday evening. After we stuffed our faces we had to have dessert, it’s my Dad’s Birthday!!! It’s required right?!? LOL… Ernie gave me a big eye roll and REALLY??!!?? face and I said HELL YA I’m trying dessert. We ordered Blackberry Cobbler (WOWOWOW), Buttermilk Lemon Cake (HEAVENLY) and Fried Apple Pies (Had Jalepenos inside which was different, unique and unexpected but still DELICIOUS). We passed around the dessert taking a bite at a time. So although we ordered a lot we split it between 7 of us. It was a pleasant dinner and fairly Paleo with the exception of the desserts. I did take some bites of flatbread just to try it. I give this place 2 thumbs up. Probably will be back in the very near future.

Soooo did this affect my performance at the BOOM BOX this morning? Probably so. Although I didn’t feel it at first.

Skill/Strength was 3 x 5 Press @ 50lbs. This has become somewhat of a lightweight to me because my max is 70lbs. But we clearly are working up to a bigger goal. It was probably about 6 months ago and 50lbs at numerous reps was a little taxing on me. It’s nice to see where I’ve come from.

7/3/12

MetCon: 4 minute AMRAP of 3 Squat Cleans (75lbs) and 10 lateral bar jumps, 90 second rest, 4 minute AMRAP of 3 Squat Cleans (75lbs) and 10 lateral bar jumps. Wooowwweeee I knew this is going to be a KILLER WOD. I knew I could Squat Clean the weight but I wasn’t sure how my legs were going to hold up for 4 minutes. And I had no idea the 10 simple lateral jumps was going to freaking take out my lungs!!! HOLY SHIT, was it the foods that I ate inflamming my insides so I couldn’t catch a breath? After 3 rounds I hit a brick wall of not knowing how to breathe! I managed to bust out 3 more rounds and finish the first 4 minutes with 6 rounds. Our 90 second break was too short but my first round felt easy. After the 2nd round my tweaked out wrist started feeling the fatigue. My right forearm started burning and I didn’t want to clean the bar. I managed to get 5 rounds. I know deep down I could have pushed for 6 rounds but my wrist wasn’t feeling it and I still was having a hard time feeling like I could get a good solid deep breath. (I was literally holding my breath as I was just now typing, what a freak I am! LOL)

There ya have it folks. The GOOD, the BAD and the SUGAR JUNKIE!

I hope everyone has a GREAT 4th of JULY! I’m sure you’ll be celebrating tonight. I know we will be watching the fireworks and then maybe heading out to the parade! Arlington, TX has one of the largest 4th of July Parades in the Nation! (don’t quote me on that but I’m pretty confident it’s true) Enjoy it. Go out and Celebrate 🙂 Be awesome!!!!

OMG it’s MONDAY again? Forever, Every 7 days? Seriously?

Yup as always Monday is here for your regularly scheduled programming.
I have no food reports for y’all just a bunch of BOOM BOX fun!

This past Saturday was probably by far the most random and fun Community WOD we’ve had. After a proper warm up we had some TIRE fun. There have been two tires propped up near the door of the BOOM BOX for a few months and we have yet to use them, until Saturday. They finally got broke in and so did we! We had some relays of flipping and rolling the nasty ass tires and boy did we get DIRTY!!! It was fun though. After our relay races we did a partner WOD. One person held a handstand (wall assisted) while the other person ran sprints. I’m not sure of yardage but it was close to 100 yds. So we had to run a total of 8 100yd sprints. Once the teammate holding handstand could no longer hold, runner had to stop and wait for handstand teammate to take their position in running. The runner then had to get into a handstand before the new runner could start! I figured I could hold a handstand forever but my teammate looked like was ready to stop running so I told her we could switch. I wish I hadn’t! Running sucked! It was already getting warm for the day and wow sprinting/running/jogging was no bueno! My partner had a hard time catching her breath in a handstand hold so she had me stop. I thought to myself is it really that bad? Answer: YES it’s really that bad trying to catch your breath upside down!!! WE ended up finish 2nd or 3rd out of about 7 teams. Not too bad! Way to go Andrea!!!

And we weren’t done yet! It was time for some good ol’ RED LIGHT GREEN LIGHT action but with LUNGES forward and backward. We only went 50 yds but it felt like forever! Keeping in line with elementary school playground games we moved on to SIMON SAYS. Our first SIMON was a little ridiculous with the movements and probably had NEVER played the game so he got over-ruled. We started off doing air squats, pushups, burpees, sprinting and that drew the line. So Coach took over. We moved onto more simple things like jumping jacks, coordination tests, etc. I didn’t last long cause I’m a bad student! It may not sound like we’ve done a lot but all those little movements really started adding up.

We finished off the Community WOD with some ULTIMATE MED BALL! I’ve played this once before and it was a BLAST! This second time around was still fun but stupid HOT. If you haven’t guessed ULTIMATE MED BALL is like ULTIMATE FRISBEE but with a 10lb medicine ball. Our team lost but we I still had lots of fun. I hope everyone else did too. We were a HOT GRIMEY MESS to top it off 🙂 Fun times.

Post Community WOD I had an OLY class to attend, still at the BOOM BOX just back inside. If you have the opportunity to sign up for an OLY class then do so. It really helps just to continuously going over proper mechanics, doing warm ups just for the OLY lifts, etc. Although 65lbs isn’t a HEAVY SNATCH. For me it was a PR cause I have this teeny tiny HUGE MONSTROUS fear of dropping under the weight. I know I can lift more but I freak out mentally.

Snatch

So a 10lb PR was good for me not only just for the PR but for the confidence BOOST! We also worked Clean & Jerk some and I managed a 5lb PR which was another boost. I was hoping for more but it all comes down to the DROPPING under the weight. It’s easier though to drop for a clean than it is for the SNATCH. Baby Steps indeed!

After Saturday’s fun, we vegged for the next two days which is fine. It’s super hot out, vacation is right around the corner and money needs to be saved!!! Which in fact I don’t know how to do very well… but I’m trying!

This morning was a short and mean WOD. I had already looked it up last night and knew it would/should be quick but how quick was the question. First off was MAX REP PUSH UPS in a minute times 3! We partnered up so we could have a counter which is great because even though it’s not ending up being a lot of reps it’s one less thing to think about. My first round I busted out 31 push ups. These are full blown chest touch the ground at the bottom and arms lock out at the top push ups. Not your knees on the ground, half ass drop halfway and try to pump out baby push ups. We got a rest as our partner had to do their round but it wasn’t enough rest! Sure enough my second round was 22 push ups. And my 3rd round was 19, maybe 20, I didn’t confirm and I lost count. My triceps died on me. It sucked!

But the suck wasn’t over, we had 3 rounds of 15 air squats, 12 burpees and 9 pullups for the MetCon. We all know this will be short and BRUTAL but again how short would it be. I was really disappointed in my time of 7:13 but not being able to do pull ups doesn’t help. It takes time to get your feet in the bands and by the time you’ve done that you want to rest before you even get your first pull up in. I did my first 9 in a good time (I think) but my 2nd and 3rd rounds of pull ups were horrid. We’ve already killed our upper body with approximately 70 pushups for time and now we’re killing ourselves with burpees and pull ups! It was good though. You never realize how hard those simple movements can be when you are doing them as fast as POSSIBLE!!!

All in all it was a good weekend, good day at the box this morning and I got in a good 20 minutes of post WOD mobility! You can never have too much mobility work! Check out http://www.mobilitywod.com/ for a plethora of videos in regards to mobility.

Have a less than Manic Monday. Enjoy your day. Hip Hip Hooray for a 4 day week even though my holiday falls on WEDNESDAY! SHEESH! Thanks 4th of July for falling on a Wednesday 🙂

Be AWESOME.

FRIDAY FAILURE :/

I had plenty of rest last night so I was ready for the BOOM BOX Beating! Looked it up and it didn’t seem like such a beating afterall. There was work to be done but it was lifting work so we took out the endurance part of the equation today. I was really relieved because we sure did do a lot this week.

Our Skill/Strength was 3 rounds of 20 Kettlebell Swings (American) at heaviest weight possible. I warmed up with 1 POOD (35lbs) and felt good. So my silly ol self thought I’ll give the 1.5 POOD kettlebell a good swing. UH NO. It’s f’in HEAVY! I really thought I was going to swing that thing over my head. I even made 2 attempts. Jokingly I asked Coach if there was a 1.25 POOD anywhere. I know there isn’t but I would have felt comfortable at 40 something pounds…. I Think!?! Anyhow. We were supposed to 3 rounds unbroken and I did, the 3rd round was a little trying but I didn’t want to have to start over so UNBROKEN they were!

MetCon: Front Squat 2,2,2,2,2 Like I said the endurance was out of the equation today. Thank the Baby Jesus! I was perfectly fine with Front Squats. I wasn’t however prepared for FAILURE! After warming up some I started at 100lbs which was 75% of my max of 135. So my weight strategy was 100, 110, 115, 125, 135. I’m not gonna lie… 100lbs was HEAVY! It’s been a while since we’ve done Front Squats but I didn’t think 100lbs would be heavylike! 2 Reps down and not really a problem. 110lbs, eh not so bad. 115lbs I did it but I could feel the struggle. 125lbs I got down and couldn’t push back up, dropped weight 😦 So I walked around, sat down, watched everyone else. I came back for my 5th round and decided to drop to 120lbs. First rep finished, 2nd rep I got down and halfway up and felt STUCK, completely STUCK no more UP in my legs. And I dropped the weight! So it was a BIG OL FAIL and it SUCKED!!! It’s one day, one moment, blah blah blah. I hear what you are saying but I still hate the fact that my 1RM is 135lbs and I couldn’t get more than 115 for 2 reps. Yes I was a certifiable Debbie Downer. I can’t help it. I know at the end of the day it’s fine. Next week I could PR for all I know. But in the moment it’s defeating. We aren’t always ON but that’s not what you’re thinking as you’re struggling to move the weight. Thank goodness it’s Friday!

While googling through the WWW I found some silly and not so silly gems of motivation or whatever you want to call it. The image below reminds me of why I continue on and push. Seriously through all my rambling, crying, whining, etc… I DO KNOW I’M STRONGER than I have ever been! I have grown so much and even though I still have a long journey ahead of me I know I am more capable than ever at this moment to take it on!

AND if you’re reading and you’re local… FREE COMMUNITY WOD at the BOOM BOX! 9AM! COME PLAY WITH US!

Nothing major planned this weekend. Going to see TED tonight. I hope it’s not as dumb as it looks. WAIT! I KNOW it will be as dumb as it looks, hahaha. Well I said that about That’s My Boy! and I laughed like a 12yr old boy. So who knows. Maybe it will be entertaining and give us some laughs.

If any adventures do pop, I’m sure I’ll be sharing. Make an adventure out of your weekend. Make the decision to Make a CHANGE in your life. Eating, Working Out, Spiritually, or WHEREVER you need to make change. It doesn’t have to be drastic, just a baby step in a better direction. You won’t regret it!

Rock your weekend OUT! See y’all on Monday 🙂

Sometimes Slow and Steady does WIN the race! Barely!

Today’s Boom Box Special was a chipperish Cindy-like WOD on ROIDS! This was Cindy’s EVIL Sister. Pull ups, Push ups and Air Squats – YAY fun! And to spice it up a bit it started with a 400m run and then had 400m run every 5 minutes!!! Come on now, RUNNING in the middle of already dying?!? Coach HATES us! I’m super convinced now 😀 He did give us a break by it only being this beast like chipper and we did get to work on mobility as well which was much needed because I’ve been slacking.

6/28/12 WOD

First off the 400m run just for oh you know the hell of it. Don’t worry at minute 5 there will be another fun run, and minute 10, minute 15, etc. We had a 30 minute cap, will I finish?!?

I knew 50 pullups were going to be a doozy so I went with the green and blue band because I knew trying to go with green only would keep me on that bar for the entire class. I could do a few more at a time with the double banding but they were still a beating. I did 3 runs just during Pull Ups and they were ugly runs.

Moving onto Push Ups was plain ol’ miserable and did not help in the shoulder dept, duh! My shoulders are dead. The next run was incredibly ridiculous. I tried my hardest to keep my arms to my side and run looking like a weirdo because my shoulders were burning.

I wanted to walk so bad on that run but I didn’t. Got back, finished push ups and got 17 air squats before my 5th run. Thank goodness shoulders are no longer needed. If it weren’t for coach pushing me on I don’t think I would have finished my Air Squats before the next 5 minute mark. I knew I couldn’t run now because my quads were on FIRE!!! But he really stood by me and helped me fight through and that is just what I did. FIGHT! Time: 24:45! BAM!

Stephanie doesn’t hate Push Ups but struggled!

I was the last one to finish pull ups and the last one on all the runs but I managed to kill push ups and air squats to beat the boys!!! HELL YA!!!! And just so you know… below is what I look like after 90% of all our WODs… Sometimes I manage to find a wall to hold me up!

Look familiar? Haha, This is my preferred I’m dying but I know I’ll live afterall position :/

Everybody is working for the weekend right?!? Almost there! You know the rest: BE AWESOME!!

NOODLE limbs and NOODLE food

My arms are noodles. And my hands are dead. If I had to rush and lift something heavy off of someone I would be useless! Hahaha, what are the odds of me having to save someone like that? Hopefully not good because I would be of no help.

The Boom Box had this little gem of a workout for us on the whiteboard –
Skill/Strength: DU practice then Max DUs in 5 minutes. I really thought I would get more than 168 but I did not. I could barely string 10-12 together much less get a good solid 30-40 in a row. I think I stopped caring at the halfway point and was just hoping time would speed up. I wasn’t happy I couldn’t get my double unders controlled. But ah well. There’s always a next time.

6/26/12 WOD

MetCon: 4 ROUNDS of 1 minute Bar Hang, 10 sec transition, 1 minute DeadLift Hold (135lbs), 10 sec transition

BONUS: 5 Burpee Penalty for every time you drop off the bar or drop the bar at the end of the 4 rounds.

I’ve learned over the months to not underestimate the WOD on the board. I used to do that a lot and really get the crap beaten out of me. Today that silly little thought really started creeping in. I was sure this would be hard but really it didn’t sound THAT bad. Uh ya, how about after 30 seconds of hanging on the bar was I ready to die. I would not be good in a torture type situation. I would sing like a bird. This my friends was torture. (And please I’m not diminishing the fact that people really do get tortured and it’s a terrible thing. This is for entertainment purposes only. And it’s sad that I have to say that cause there are some people out there that are too serious.) Moving on to the Deadlifts. Well the weight was easy to get up but easy to HOLD, hell no! It sucked! I dropped it twice on the first minute out of pure shock on much it sucked. I dropped the bar once each round for the rest. I dropped A LOT while hanging on the bar. I am unable to suck it up and look past the PAIN at least when it comes to my hands. So at the end of our 4 rounds I had a total of 12 drops which meant 60 Burpees lay before me. I didn’t rush through them but I didn’t drag ass either. I look forward NEVER to any similar workouts. The end!

JOKES JOKES it’s not the End.

I have SWEET POTATO noodles to talk about!! We are always stocked up on ground beef and I was going to do my standard meatballs with zucchini pasta but I thought I’d mix it up a bit. I had recently read about SWEET POTATO noodles but I didn’t really follow up on it. It was just a FB status. After some googling I found it posted over at Civilized Caveman Cooking. It was easy enough and was pretty darn tasty!

Sweet Potato Slices. After you slice them on the mandolin you cut them into thin strips aka NOODLES!

Meatballs over the NOODLES 🙂 YUMMY!

Ingredients:

2 Medium Sweet Potatoes or Yams, long in shape
2 Tbsp Grass fed butter, I used salted
1-2 Tbsp Sage
1 Tbsp Cinnamon
Sea Salt for taste

Process:

Wash your sweet potatoes under cold water and then peel
Once peeled, CAREFULLY using your Mandoline, slice your sweet
potato lengthwise into thin strips
Once sliced, use a knife and cut them to about 1/4 inch thickness and set aside
Melt your butter in a large state pan over medium heat and add in all of your sweet potato “noodles”
Continually stir and cook until the sweet potatoes are cooked through to your liking, about 5 minutes for me
Sprinkle with your sage and cinnamon and mix well
Transfer to a plate and Enjoy

Instead of cinnamon and sage I substituted himalayan salt and garlic powder. I was serving meatballs over this and it turned out pretty darn good!!!

Now it’s the end. Hopefully you are making life AWESOME. Have a torture free Tuesday!!

Mopey Monday

We had a pretty chill laid back did a lot of nothing weekend. It’s nice and not so nice all at the same time. I felt really unproductive and lazy but in turn I felt like I got rest physically and mentally. But it leads to a MOPEY MONDAY indeed.

As I had mentioned on Friday, the plan was to hit up the Downtown Arlington Farmer’s Market and that is what we did. We got there a few minutes before the official open hours but everyone was pleasant and welcoming. Overall I imagined it to be bigger than it actually turned out to be but they had plenty for us to look at. Veggies, all types of Honey, relishes, sauces, spices, jams, breads, some grassfed beef, tamales, jewelry, wood carved items, etc. I failed you all again and did not take pictures while I was there. I just get so wrapped up into the moment, I FORGET to take pictures. I did take one of the stuff we bought once we got home if that helps. :/

We ended up buying some bell peppers, tomatoes, blueberries, plums and peaches. I’ve tried everything but the bell peppers so far and everything was fantastic. We also bought some Amaranth Chips from one of the vendors there (Unhinged Homestead). Better than kale chips! We also bought some Watermelon Jam from her because I sampled some and had buyer’s impulse. We have no idea what we’ll put it on at the moment since we don’t eat bread. It was very YUMMY though and  I’ll just have to make some almond flour biscuits or something!

If you live in Arlington, you should definitely go check it out and support local farmers and businesses.

After the market, we vegged. Monday morning rolls around and I suck at life in
regards to CrossFit BOOM! Actually I only sucked with the running but it was a
big ol bag of suck.

Skill/Strength: 3 x 5 Back Squat at 105lbs and 3 x 5 Press at 50lbs. I felt good doing this today which should mean I’m getting stronger. It’s not a lot of weight but the higher reps is still sweat inducing work. I don’t really inquire as to why we lift how we do, I just trust that it all works out in the end. Does that make me a bad student for not inquiring or does that make me a good student for just doing? HMMMM.

MetCon: 400m Relay. So more running you say? Why YES, MORE RUNNING. We team up in teams of 2, in our case this morning, team of 3. One person runs UPHILL and back for 400m. When they get back, the next person goes. We do this until all parties have run 1 mile each. We had 3, so two of us ran together which probably helped me run a little faster than I typically would have as not to appear loserish. But after the first 400, I dragged ass. BAD! Did I mention it’s uphill? Everything burned and I felt like I couldn’t inhale properly. Not sure if that’s poor eating, humidity, combo of both? But it sucked! My ears started to hurt like they do when it’s cold outside. I was a mess, but I wasn’t feeling sickly so I kept on. We finished in 15:38. I don’t even know if that’s good or bad but it was bad compared to the guys 😦

I really really really HOPE that tomorrow doesn’t involve any sort of running. Seriously. I did let the weekend sneak in some bad eating. Not jumping off the deep end kind of eating but nothing to be proud of either. I have less than three weeks for vacation so STRICT MODE is enabled. I know I can survive the week… it’s the weekend I’m more concerned about!!!

Since the day is almost over, I hope your day has been good. Enjoy your evening. See you mañana. BE AWESOME!!!

Friday – You’re my BEST FRIEND

I love Fridays. Unless you work weekends I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t like/love Fridays. This Friday however I was greeted at the BOOM BOX with SKIN THE CAT….?!?!? really, what the hell is that and with 100 BURPEES for time. I was already trying to sleep in this morning by sleeping through SNOOZE and now I have this insanity to do.

Ends up SKIN THE CAT isn’t so terrifying but something I am not able to do as of yet. It looks so simple but hell if I can do it. Below is a video of what it should look like.

I even hung out after class to attempt this movement more but it just wasn’t happening!

6/22/12 WOD

MetCon: 100 Burpees for time!
Ya ya ya…burpees AGAIN. Not my favorite but I’ve learned that they will always be there and I should just freakin get through them. I started off with a slow pace knowing that I had to do 100 and I didn’t want to burn out and really struggle with the last 50. I thought I even had a decent time of 8:43. I was feeling pretty good UNTIL the 6am class blew me out of the water! It’s good to have goals or ideas of what should be expected. 5am was just hoping to finish with no time in mind. 6am waltzes in and just kills it. I know it’s not a super big deal but sometimes it gets to me. If I had a goal time to shoot for would I be better? NO IDEA cause I am in the first round of the day! I can’t complain though because 5am is the only time I can really go so at least I’m putting in work. Sorry for the little rant, just feeling a little poor poor petrie today! Hahaha.

Moving on!
No baseball, no workouts, no plans! What a weekend this will be! Unless we just turn into couch potatoes and do nothing which won’t be very good. I have a house that needs some serious cleaning but I’d rather be outside PLAYING! So first thing tomorrow I think we’ll be hitting up the Arlington Farmer’s Market. I’ve never been because we always have something going on when it’s open. And I want to get there early before they sell everything and before it gets MELT YOUR FACE OFF HOT. This time I will take pictures because our last adventure to Homestead Farms was a fail in the pic taking dept. If I don’t get pics, blame Ernie, not me!

It’s supposed to be in the 100’s already for all of next week! It just barely officially turned summer and the TEXAS HEAT is here!

Hope y’all have a FAB WEEKEND! Eat Clean, Play outside!

Sumo Summer!

Yup it’s a lame title. And I don’t care what you think! Hehe. I do care. Just like me please 🙂 Or don’t cause ya I don’t care. I was at a loss for creativity which happens more often than not. We did Sumo Deadlifts. It’s the 2nd day of summer. It seemed to work. And instead of editing forever, I just went with it. Why am I still explaining myself. I’m slightly crazy in case y’all haven’t figured that out!

I am still seriously sore from Monday and Tuesday’s workout and then we’re slapped in the face with 3 600m RUNS and Sumo Deadlifts!!! Are you kidding me? All day yesterday it never dawned on me that my ribs felt like I got beat because I did 100 situps on Tuesday. And my legs are dead from Sprints. I really didn’t think it would take a toll on me like it did but I’m still achy.

At least after the warm up, my legs started feeling better which is a good thing. Skill/Strength was to work on the Sumo Deadlifts. It’s a much different movement than regular ol’ deadlifts. And I feel much stronger at these which is an awesome feeling. I didn’t ask, nor have I researched on whether or not that’s typical – to feel stronger on Sumo’s vs. Regular. But I did feel pretty good. We worked our way up to a good weight for the Metcon.

MetCon: 600m run, 10 Sumo Deadlifts, 600m run, 10 Sumo Deadlifts, 600m run…. RX weight was 165 for the ladies and I went 10lbs lighter. I probably could have gone that heavy but that 10lbs would have been much more of a struggle as I was already struggling with the 155. And believe me after running a 600, my legs were not happy! Anytime running is involved I’m generally not happy. I do it for the better good of myself and my body, not my brain and piss poor attitude! Time 11:20

06/21/12 WOD

I did much better at the second set of Sumo Deadlifts. Not sure why exactly. Maybe I was too tired to think which in turn allows me to just DO.

Useless info
With my new found free evenings I can be way more productive in the kitchen! That’s a bonus indeed! I managed to roast a chicken, cook broccoli two ways for the rest of the week, get the kids some sauteed sirloin, mushrooms, onions and tomatoes and be done by 7:30! Who am I? There are some nights that kids are eating less than ideal and Ernie and I are eating closer to 9:30 because I’m just finishing dinner at that time. I know this freedom won’t last long, we have football coming up. As much as I know I can do pre planned foods for the week, I really like fresh cooked food. I’m a snob like that I suppose. Or maybe I suck at food storage. Who knows.

Also I finally bought into fancy waters… And I mean just paying the extra money for them for now. I haven’t bought into the idea fully just yet. I’m sure there’s good things to Alkaline Water with Electrolytes but I’m not sure how much more beneficial it will be for me. Anyhow we are buying out Albertson’s stock regularly of AquaHydrate. I need to do research, consistently drink the stuff and just self test for me. We’ll see how it goes. If I remember to do so I will keep you posted. If I forget just yell at me or something to share how it goes. It’s not cheap so we’ll see how long this lasts! LOL.

See y’all tomorrow. Have a T-REX kind of Thursday! Which of course is AWESOME!
